Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama makes All-Defensive First Team as a rookie!

He is the first rookie player in the history of the league to earn such an honor.

San Antonio Spurs rookie forward phenom Victor Wembanyama has smashed our early impressions of his early-career capabilities, morphing from a competent defender to a real Defensive Player of the Year award candidate. And while the French phenom may not have taken home that particular piece of season-long hardware, he did win Rookie of the Year handily, and has now broken yet another record.

Wemby has just been named to the NBA’s 2023-24 Kia All-Defensive First Team, and is the first rookie player in the history of the league to earn such an honor — as well as his being the youngest to make First Team.

The folks who put together the Spurs’ official YouTube channel put together a highlight reel of some of the best defensive plays made by Wembanyama with San Antonio from the Spurs’ 2023-24 campaign for our collective enjoyment in their offseason.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to see it for yourself.
