2021 NBA Mock Draft: Introducing high school, international prospects

With the NBA trade deadline approaching, there may be some swaps of picks in the 2021 NBA Draft, which is considered to be a strong class.

Picks: 1 – 5 | Picks: 6 – 10 | Picks: 11 – 15 | Picks: 16 – 20 | Picks: 21 – 30 | Picks: 31 – 50 |

21. Cam Thomas, LSU (Committed)

Fragoso-USA TODAY Sports

Guard, 6-foot-4, 18 years old, Oak Hill Academy (Virginia)

Cam Thomas was named EYBL Offensive Player of the Year on the Nike D1 Circuit, scoring 29.5 points per game. He has kept that momentum on the prep circuit for Oak Hill, averaging 33.4 PPG while shooting 44.2 percent from three-point range on 43 total attempts. The guard also has the second-most made three’s (19) among all players on the prep circuit. Thomas has led Oak Hill to the No. 1 ranking in the state of Virginia. MaxPreps considered him the biggest snub on the McDonald’s All-American list, citing that he won tournament MVP at the ‘Iolani Classic and the Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions.

22. Keon Johnson, Tennessee (Committed)

Guard, 6-foot-5, 18 years old, Webb School of Knoxville (Tennessee)

Keon Johnson, a two-time Division II-A Mr. Basketball, has emerged as the No. 1 prospect in the state of Tennessee, per 247 Sports. He has gone from an under-the-radar prospect to someone ESPN currently considers a projected lottery pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Johnson and Jaden Springer are both combo guards that are playing for the Tennessee Vols next season. Their backcourt may get a bit overcrowded if freshman Josiah Jordan-James elects to return next year. But until then, his draft stock is currently in a solid place.

23. Isaiah Todd (Michigan)

Forward, 6-foot-10, 18 years old, Word of God (North Carolina)

Isaiah Todd, pictured above wearing No. 79, was the leading scorer (18.3 points per game) for an AAU Nike EYBL team that also included a top NBA prospect in Scottie Barnes. He added recorded 8.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game while he participated for the Nightrydas Elite squad. The big man will be coached by a two-time NBA champion and former NBA All-Star center Juwan Howard at the University of Michigan, whose knowledge and expertise of the position will inevitably help his development. Especially with graduating senior Jon Teske leaving their frontcourt rotation, Todd will have plenty of room to shine for the Wolverines.

24. Sharife Cooper, Auburn (Committed)

Guard, 6-foot-2, 18 years old, McEachern High School (Georgia)

Sharife Cooper was named USA TODAY’s All-USA Player of the Year in April 2019. He led the McEachern High School team to an undefeated season and a state title in Georgia. He made First Team All-EYBL on the D1 Circuit while playing for the AOT Running Rebels, averaging 25.5 points with 4.5 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game. Cooper is the highest-recruit in Auburn program history. It will be good to watch him play under head coach Greg Pearl.

25. Moses Moody, Arkansas (Committed)

Wing, 6-foot-6, 17 years old, Montverde Academy (Florida)

Moses Moody led his AAU team Brad Beal Elite on the Nike EYBL circuit with 17.7 points per game. He is currently on the superstar-driven Montverde Academy, playing alongside two projected of the projected lottery picks in Cade Cunningham and Scottie Barnes. SB Nation’s Ricky O’Donnell wrote about how Moody has done well “without needing the ball in his hands” at Montverde. While it might soften his numbers in the interim as his usage is lower than it would be nearly anywhere else, his ability to be a 3-and-D role player can help his longterm value.

26. Jeremy Roach, Duke (Committed)

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Guard, 6-foot-2, 18 years old, Pau VI Catholic (Virginia)

Jeremy Roach played for the undefeated AAU squad Team Takeover, which ranked No. 1 overall in the EYBL Division B circuit back in 2018. His high school squad is currently Top 10 in the nation, per MaxPreps. Roach will join top recruits Jalen Johnson, DJ Steward, Jaemyn Brakefield as well as Henry Coleman for the stacked recruiting class committed to play for Duke. There is a reason the Blue Devils currently have the second-best recruiting class in the NCAA for the upcoming season.

27. Jaemyn Brakefield, Duke (Committed)

Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

Forward, 6-foot-8, 19 years old, Huntington Prep (West Virginia)

Jaemyn Brakefield was the most prolific scorer on the adidas AAU circuit back in 2018-19, where he averaged 30.8 points per game. When he played for Phenom University on the Nike EYBL circuit last year in 2019, his team finished as the highest-ranked among all competitors in Division A. Playing alongside top talents like Jalen Johnson and Reece Beekman, he still scored 16.3 points per game. Brakefield will once again play alongside Johnson in the frontcourt at Duke. However, it is worth noting that their forward spot may be a bit crowded depending on what Blue Devil freshmen Matthew Hurt and Wendell Moore decide to do about declaring for the 2020 NBA Draft. If they return, it would be hard to imagine either leaving the starting lineup. It is also worth mentioning that Henry Coleman, a four-star commit to Duke, also plays power forward.

28. Devin Askew, Kentucky

Guard, 6-foot-3, 17 years old, Mater Dei High School (California)

Devin Askew reclassified to join the graduating high school Class of 2020 at Mater Dei. The team now ranks No. 22 overall on the MaxPreps computer rankings. He already has experience playing alongside Jalen Green and Nimari Burnett for Team WhyNot on the AAU Circuit, where he connected on 24-of-52 (46.2 percent) attempts when shooting from beyond the arc. He led that squad with 4.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game as well. Askew would have been older for his class if he had stayed in it but is now one of the more exciting young prospects to keep an eye on in the 2021 NBA Draft.

29. Earl Timberlake, Miami (Committed)

David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

Wing, 6-foot-6, 18 years old, DeMatha Catholic (Virginia)

Earl Timberlake averaged 17.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per game on the Nike EYBL circuit for his AAU squad Team Durant. The wing currently plays for DeMatha High School in Virginia, ranked No. 3 in the nation. He should be a nice complement to Miami freshman Harlond Beverly, whose current assist rate ranks No. 1 overall among freshmen in the ACC, next season. While he will mostly play off-ball next to Beverly, expect to see the lefty play a bit as the primary ballhandler at times as well — especially in the open court when they have fastbreak opportunities.

30. Ibou Dianko Badji, Barcelona

Big, 7-foot-1, 17 years old

Ibou Dianko Badji has a ridiculous 7-foot-8 wingspan and a 9-foot-10 standing reach, which will help him immediately as he continues his professional journey. That standing reach is three inches more than what Rudy Gobert recorded and five inches more than what Joel Embiid has measured, per the Stepien. He had 17 points and 7 rebounds with 5 blocked shots against New Zealand in the U19 FIBA World Cup in 2019. He is not yet much more of a dunker but even that could be enough to get him some buckets in the NBA.
