Edelman steps up
Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson made some anti-Semitic comments last week. Jackson has come under fire and was forced to apologize and state that he has no hatred toward the Jewish community and issued two separate statements of apology with “a promise to do better” after he posted an anti-Semitic message that he attributed to Adolf Hitler on Instagram while also reposting information from Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
Bills fans may legitimately hate Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman. But that has nothing to do with his background and entirely everything he does on the field against their team. In fact, off the field, Edelman reacted in a fantastic manner to Jackson’s post.
Edelman, who is Jewish, extended an invitation to meet up with Jackson and have an open conversation about social issues in the United States.
“I have seen DeSean play in his career, make outstanding football plays, communicated over social media,” Edelman said in a video he posted to Twitter. “So to that end, DeSean, let’s do a deal. How about we go to D.C. and I take you to the Holocaust Museum and then you take me to the Museum of African American History and Culture? Afterwards, we’ll grab some burgers and we have those uncomfortable conversations.
“This world needs a little more love, compassion and empathy. Take care.”
Nothing but respect to Edelman for working for a common good in light of a unfortunate situation.
