Selecting Whittington here may be cheating as 2020 will be his second year within the program. However, the redshirt freshman only appeared in one game last season against Louisiana Tech before a groin injury sidelined him for the entire season. In his one game, Whittington was able to catch two passes for a total of 17 yards.

Whittington will be making the switch back to wide receiver in Mike Yurich’s offense. A five-star prospect, he played all over the field at Cuero High School. Throughout his senior year, Whittington compiled 27 total touchdowns, with 14 coming on the ground and 13 through the air. Even though he is listed as a wide receiver, Yurich could use him in multiple fashions.

With Devin Duvernay off to the NFL, the slot receiver position will become an open competition during the summer. Whittington plus Jake Smith and Kelvontay Dixon should fight for touches throughout the season. If Whittington can stay healthy, he could become a valuable swiss army knife type of player for Sam Ehlinger.
