Texas running back Roschon Johnson is taking complete advantage of a full offseason of preparation at his new position.
It’s unclear how Texas plans to split carries between several talented running backs this season, but you can’t go wrong with any of them. The most experienced back, Keontay Ingram, will likely begin the season as the starter with Roschon Johnson close behind. Incoming freshman Bijan Robinson was the nation’s No. 1 rated back, so he’ll have to see the field in some way too.
Johnson just has that feel good story that makes it impossible not to cheer for him.
He exceeded expectations in 2019 when he switched from quarterback to running back in order to provide depth at the position due to a slew of injuries. Johnson flashed enough potential to remain in the backfield for the foreseeable future, appearing in all 13 games while racking up 807 all-purpose yards. He was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week twice for his performances against West Virginia and Texas Tech.
Will he be even more dangerous this season? Johnson has been working with a sports performance movement coach known as Chux Speed, who released a short clip on Twitter of Johnson’s incredible footwork.

At times, Johnson surprisingly looked like the best back on the roster last season. His physical style of play, quick footwork and even hurdles over defenders caught the eyes of many.
He demonstrated the poise and confidence to show up in big moments for the Longhorns as a true freshman. It’s exciting to think what a full offseason under his belt will do.
