1969 Texas Longhorns (Number 54)
In Darrell K. Royal’s 13th season as head coach of the Texas Longhorns was a memorable one. The Longhorns were perfect at 11-0 and once again played Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl. However, unlike the following year, the Longhorns prevailed 21-17 and were named the Consensus National Champions.
Before the Longhorns would head to Dallas to play the Irish they had a game against the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville. This matchup on December 6th was deemed the “Game of the Century” as it pit the number one and two ranked teams, the Longhorns escaped with a 15-14 win. Texas kicker Happy Feller gave them the lead that ultimately led to the win.
