No. 4 – Spencer Sanders
School: Oklahoma State
Classification: Redshirt Sophomore
Career vs Texas: 19 of 32, 268 yards, two interceptions, 18 rushes, 109 yards, one touchdown (one game)
Spencer Sanders walked into a great situation his freshman season, having Heisman hopeful Chuba Hubbard in the backfield and Biletnikoff Award finalist Tylan Wallace out wide. The trio came short in 2019, finishing with a 9-3 regular-season record before losing to Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl.
Now, all three players are back and expectations are even higher than before. In order to meet those goals, the play of Sanders must elevate to match the elite play of his skill position players. The quarterback was not consistent enough, throwing at least one interception in seven consecutive games last season.
His dual-threat ability continues to make him a dangerous quarterback. Sanders ran for 109 yards against the Longhorns last season, averaging 6.1 yards per carry. Questions still surround Sanders, but his potential could lead the Cowboys towards a Big 12 championship appearance.
