The middle linebacker position is an issue
Starting middle linebacker Juwan Mitchell was ejected in the first half of the TCU game for targeting and missed the entire second half. Luckily, Mitchell will not be suspended for this week’s matchup against Oklahoma and will be available.
However, once Mitchell was ejected on Saturday, the Longhorns’ middle linebacker play significantly dropped. Ayodele Adeoye came in as a replacement but struggled before coming out of the game himself with an injury. Third-string Cort Jaquess played well, having seven tackles, 1.5 of which was for a loss.
Tom Herman announced Adeoye needs shoulder surgery and will be missing a significant amount of time. Middle linebacker depth will now come down to Mitchell and Jaquess for the Red River Shootout. One injury to either of them and the Sooners will take advantage of poor linebacker play just as TCU did.
