Two of the most critical plays in the game that went against Texas both happened on special teams.

First, after securing its third consecutive takeaway of the second quarter, the Longhorns went three and out and had to punt. Instead of booting it downfield, punter Ryan Bujcevski had his kicked blocked and set Oklahoma inside the five-yard line.

The Sooners scored five plays later, taking a 17-10 lead.

Fast-forwarding to the third overtime and Texas had a chance to take the advantage via a Cameron Dicker 33-yard field goal. Oklahoma’s defensive front got pressure up the middle and Perrion Winfrey was able to get his hand on it.

Even former Longhorn punter Michael Dickson called out the special teams’ performance.

Special teams in the third facet of the game and can beat you just as much as it can win you a game. Jay Boulware is going to have a rough film day Monday morning in Austin. An overall disastrous day for both kickers was ultimately one of the reasons Texas lost to Oklahoma.
