Griffin McVeigh – How will the defensive line perform?
Texas’ defensive line is getting a much-needed makeover for the 2020 season, switching to a four-man front. Former defensive coordinator ran a base 3-3-5 defense, struggling to get pressure on quarterbacks every play.
Now, Chris Ash will be switching a base 4-3 defense and looking to unleash the potential this defensive line has. It will all begin with Joseph Ossai, who will be playing the new Jack position. His primary goal will be to rush the passer and create havoc in the backfield.
Players such as Ta’Quon Graham, Marquez Bimmage, and Alfred Collins will be looking to help Ossai at the opposite defensive end position. Keondre Coburn will be the main guy up the middle. So the question holds, can this unit perform?
If they do, Texas’ defense instantly becomes one of the best in the conference. The secondary is widely experienced and talented in a conference that has quality quarterbacks from the top to the bottom who can make plays when given time. Ossai and company must improve for the Longhorns to contend.
