Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger is now the only team captain that remains.

Junior linebacker, pass rusher Joseph Ossai announced on Monday that he will be foregoing his senior season at Texas. Ossai excelled in the Jack role under new defensive coordinator Chris Ash and is widely projected to be selected within the first few rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Ossai finished the 2020 season with 55 total tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and three forced fumbles.

Caden Sterns, Chris Brown, Samuel Cosmi, Ta’Quon Graham and Joseph Ossai were each labeled as a team captain this season and will not be with the Longhorns during their bowl game as they prepare for their professional careers.

Derek Kerstetter and Sam Ehlinger are the only captains that remain, but Kerstetter suffered a gruesome ankle injury against Kansas State two weeks ago. That leaves just Ehlinger to lead the pack, although it’s unclear whether he plans to return next season either.

Needless to say, the uncertainty surrounding the Texas football program continues to grow.
