Texas safety B.J. Foster suffers broken hand after punching car

Texas head coach Tom Herman announced on Thursday that safety B.J. Foster has a broken hand.

It’s been quite the offseason for Texas safety B.J. Foster.

Foster sat out eight games last season due to a shoulder injury which ultimately required surgery. While he was expected to miss spring football practice, the goal was to be 100 percent for summer conditioning.

Unfortunately, Foster now has a broken hand. According to Anwar Richardson of Rivals.com, head coach Tom Herman expressed that Foster is in a cast after punching his car bumper.

Fortunately for Foster, it wasn’t amidst an altercation. However, he let his frustrations get the best of him after someone reportedly damaged his vehicle without leaving a note.

It’s unclear at this time how long Foster will remain in the cast, but it’s a safe bet to assume several weeks to fully heal. Texas football players began returning to campus this week and can begin practicing on June 15.

Foster is expected to be the starting safety for the Longhorns this season. In the five games he played in 2019 with a heavy shoulder brace, he totaled 25 tackles, one sack and an interception. As a true freshman, Foster appeared in all 13 games and made six starts.

The third-year defensive back was named a third-team All-Big 12 Preseason selection in 2020.
