Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger was one of the first college football players to generously use his platform amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ehlinger set up a fundraising campaign through GoFundMe on March 27, where he has now raised approximately $200,000 in donations to assist people impacted by the coronavirus. On Sunday, he gave an update on the fundraising efforts.
Thank you to everyone who generously donated to my COVID-19 fundraising effort.
You all raised approximately $200,000 through @gofundme and private donations.
Your generosity provided over 150,000 meals and helped many other people/organizations.
God Bless

When he began the fundraiser, Ehlinger stated that the money would be going to organizations nationally and locally, such as the Boys and Girls Club of America, Austin’s Pets Alive, and the Central Texas Food Bank.
Ehlinger was able to provide more than 150,000 meals in addition to helping other charitable organizations. New Texas offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich was quick to chime in with how proud he was of the senior quarterback.
“Here is a guy who capitalized off (name, image, likeness) to give to others. Proud to go to work with Sam Ehlinger. True leader.”
