Texas QB Sam Ehlinger named to Davey O’Brien Award watch list

Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger continues to draw praise as he was selected to the Davey O’Brien Award preseason watch list on Tuesday.

Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger is widely expected to become a Heisman Trophy contender this season.

On Tuesday, Ehlinger’s name was included on the Davey O’Brien Award’s preseason watch list. This highly coveted honor is awarded to the nation’s best college quarterback.

According to the team’s official website, Ehlinger leads all active FBS players in completions, passing yards, total offense and touchdowns since the start of the 2018 season. He has started all 27 games for the Longhorns over the past two seasons and recorded the second-most yards of total offense in school history with 4,326 yards in 2019.

Former Texas legends Vince Young and Colt McCoy are the only two quarterbacks to take home the Davey O’Brien Award in school history. The sixteen semifinalists will be unveiled on Tuesday, Nov. 10 and the winner will be selected live on ESPN Thursday, Dec. 10.

The sky is the limit for Ehlinger as he enters his senior season.
