Texas offers four-star defensive end from Mansfield

Texas joined a late push to sway four-star defensive end David Abiara away from Notre Dame.

The Longhorns are making a late push for four-star defensive end David Abiara from Mansfield Legacy High School.

Abiara has already verbally committed to Notre Dame, but that didn’t stop Texas from pursuing him further. According to 247Sports, the Oklahoma Sooners are also drawing recent interest from the 6-4, 248-pound athlete from the 2021 recruiting class.

Abiara is a top 50 player in the state of Texas. He was also a 2019 Texas District 6-5A D-I first-team selection at defensive end as a junior. He’s a big-framed prospect who has gathered offers from highly respected programs such as Alabama, LSU, Michigan State, Texas A&M and several others.

It may take a bit of urgency and extra work to sway Abiara away from Notre Dame, but we’ve witnessed more surprising things happen on the recruiting trail. If Abiara is uncertain of his current commitment as rumors seem to hint, the Longhorns could have a legitimate chance here.
