Texas Longhorns Football: Three reasons Texas lost to TCU

Saturday’s loss to the Horned Frogs was a frustrating loss where UT beat themselves all day. Here are three reasons Texas lost to TCU.

Tom Herman described Sam Ehlinger’s day as “up and down.” The senior quarterback went 17 of 36 with 236 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception.

“He made some really, really good throws. He made some ill-advised ones as well,” said Herman.

Inaccurate passes haunted Ehlinger as well, missing receivers all day. Whether throws were low, too inside, or stretched too far, Texas’ quarterback stalled drives himself.

Looking unstoppable at times against UTEP and Texas Tech, Mike Yurcich’s offense looked the opposite on Saturday.

On Ehlinger’s sole interception of the day, it seemed as if there was a miscommunication between him and wide receiver Joshua Moore. The inability to execute what should be simple plays killed the Ehlinger and the Longhorns.

“I think we stopped ourselves. We didn’t play well enough to win,” said Ehlinger.

Going into the Oklahoma game, Ehlinger will be facing the Sooners for the fifth time in his career. Not only will the senior need to act as if he has been there before but fine-tuning his throws, short and down the field, will be needed.
