Texas’ Ivan Melendez earns Big 12 Player of the Week honors

Ivan Melendez is swinging the bat at an absurd level.

Texas slugger Ivan Melendez has been named Big 12 Player of the Week for the second time this season after his monster weekend in Lubbock. His teammate Murphy Stehly took home the honor last week.

Melendez went on an absolute tear in Texas’ four games last week, finishing the week with a .625 batting average, four home runs and six RBI. The “Titanic” started conference play with hits in eight consecutive at-bats.

The performance Texas is getting from Melendez this season has been nothing short of spectacular. He is hitting at a .402 clip on the season and has already matched his 2021 home run total at 13. Melendez should be heavily in the conversion for every player of the year award at this point of the season.

Texas will play four games again this week, this time against rivals Texas A&M and Oklahoma.
