Brayden Liebrock – TE
The position of tight end has been one that is often undervalued. The truth is, there’s a valid cause to be made that the Longhorns haven’t had a legitimate threat at the position since David Thomas and Jermichael Finley. With Devin Duvernay now in Baltimore, perhaps quarterback Sam Ehlinger can use a tight end to extend drives and make timely plays.
On the depth chart, you will likely find Cade Brewer and Malcolm Epps as the first listed on the two-deep chart. Brewer is more of a blocker who can get you a few receptions. Epps is going back to tight end after playing some wide receiver in Collin Johnson’s absence a season ago. Epps can be a good receiver but at times can get overpowered by larger defenders. However, right now he is the best option as a receiving threat with experience.
Don’t forget about redshirt freshman Brayden Liebrock. Liebrock is more of the new age tight end that is running rampant in the NFL. While he needs to establish himself better in the run game, he is the prototype for a passing threat. The former high school All-American is a true weapon and with his size can go up and get the ball in the redzone. If the offense wants to score 45 points per game, Liebrock can help when they get to the redzone. He is one to watch as fall camp rolls on.
