Texas football roster breakdown: The running backs

The running back room for the Texas Longhorns is loaded with talent. What is the outlook for Keaontay Ingram and can he hold off Bijan?

RB2- Roschon Johnson

When the 2019 season started, Roschon Johnson was third on the depth chart at quarterback. He wasn’t going to see the field behind both Sam Ehlinger and Casey Thompson. When the injury to Whittington occurred, it opened up an opportunity.

Johnson had a breakout game against the West Virginia Mountaineers that solidified him as the bonafide backup to Ingram. He carried the ball 21 times for 121 yards. Ingram never really gained any traction carrying the ball 11 times for 18 yards. He injured his neck in that game but would return later. The Longhorns needed Johnson on that Saturday in Morgantown.

Johnson would have two more big games. One against the Oklahoma Sooners the very next week and against the Red Raiders on senior day. He would finish second in rushing yards by a running back and third on the team behind Ingram and Ehlinger.
