Texas Football Recruiting: Five 2021 prospects the Longhorns need to push for next

Despite the recent success, the 2021 class has still not been good enough from Herman. Here are five recruits Texas should push for next:

Savion Byrd

Rating: Four-star, 0.9756

Position: Offensive tackle

Hometown: Duncanville, Texas

Analysis: Another offensive lineman the Longhorns will be making a late push for is Savion Byrd. Once a highly rated five-star offensive tackle, Byrd has fallen down in the 247Sports composite. However, the race for his signature has been anything but.

Recently releasing a top five consisting of AuburnLSU, SMU, Oklahoma, and Texas. The Sooners and Mustangs have both led the race for Byrd, with Lincoln Riley currently holding a slight edge. This might be Herb Hand’s biggest priority on the recruiting trail at the moment.

Byrd spent most of his junior season playing defensive tackle, proving he has the ability to play both sides of the ball. However, the potential at offensive tackle is just too much to pass up. With Samuel Cosmi off the NFL after this season, a spot will be open for Byrd to come to compete for in the spring.
