Texas Football Recruiting: Five 2021 prospects the Longhorns need to push for next

Despite the recent success, the 2021 class has still not been good enough from Herman. Here are five recruits Texas should push for next:

Shemar Turner

Rating: Four-star, 0.9738

Position: Strongside defensive end

Hometown: Desoto, Texas

Analysis: Texas’ pass rush has improved this season but would have the possibility to take off with the commitment of Shemar Turner. A blue-chip prospect out of DeSoto, one of the highest regarded high schools in the state, would be a major pickup for Tom Herman.

Not only because of what he would bring to the Longhorns’ defensive line but because it would be a recruiting steal from in-state rivals Texas A&M. As things stand, it seems as if the Aggies currently have the edge. Defensive line coach Oscar Giles will have a couple of more months to push for Turner.

Defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, Turner’s teammate, just flipped from Baylor to Texas. Could his commitment give the Longhorns a new angle and possibly an edge in the recruitment? Herman and Giles must pull out all of the stops.
