Texas atop ranking of SportsCenter’s all-time college football moments

Texas and quarterback Vince Young provided one of the most iconic moments in college football history.

College football oftentimes provides miracles, heartbreaks and everything in between.

In the game’s 150 year history, there’s dozens of exciting moments and unexpected triumphs. Whether that moment is due to hype, skill, miraculous plays or flukes, it’s certainly something that you can’t forget.

247Sports recently compiled a list of the Top 10 most iconic moments in college football history, according to SportCenter’s Top 10 countdown. It should come as no surprise that Texas’ incredible defeat over the USC Trojans in the 2006 Rose Bowl landed at the No. 1 spot.

“Considered one of, if not the greatest college football game in history, it’s home to the top moment in the game’s history. Texas quarterback Vince Young put the Longhorns on his back and finished off the king of college football, USC. With just 26 seconds left on a 4th and 5 from the nine yard line, Texas trailed 38-33 and then Young happened. He scrambled to his right, saw an opening and took off to the right front corner of the endzone, putting Texas ahead by a single point. Once the game clock hit zero, the Texas Longhorns were standing atop the college football world with a national championship. It’s safe to say anytime Young goes back to campus, he’s thanked immediately for the greatest play in college football history.”

The hype, talent, excitement, and jaw-dropping plays combined to make that particular National Championship game the best moment in college football history. Quarterback Vince Young continues to be viewed as one of the top players at his position to ever play the game at the collegiate level.
