Eagles GM Howie Roseman, HC Nick Sirianni reaching out to coordinator candidates

After finishing their exit meeting, Eagles GM Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni have begun reaching out to potential coordinator candidates

It appears that Nick Sirianni will be safe and keep his job as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles after meeting with owner Jeffrey Lurie and GM Howie Roseman.

The same can’t be said for his assistants on both sides of the football.

Dianna Russini reports that Roseman and Sirianni have contacted potential coordinator candidates on the offensive and defensive sides.

Sirianni gets much credit for the Eagles’ success over the past three seasons.

Still, after a late-season meltdown that saw the Eagles go 1-6 in their final seven games, including the playoffs, the head coach and his assistant coaches expected were on the hot seat.

Philadelphia’s third-year head coach has far exceeded expectations, but it’s clear that Gannon and Steichen played far more prominent roles than we thought.

We previewed potential offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator candidates, and as the process began, the dominoes started to fall.

Instant analysis on Saints interview requests and coaching staff moves

We’re tracking Saints interview requests with instant analysis on every coaching staff move. Check this space often for updates:

The 2024 offseason has kicked off in earnest for the New Orleans Saints: longtime offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael is out, as are multiple position coaches and assistants.

Saints head coach Dennis Allen will be back and he’s hard at work rebuilding his staff, looking for upgrades to get them back to the playoffs in 2024. We’re keeping up with every interview request and staff change as they’re reported, so check this space often for updates.

Here’s what we know so far:

Saints request interview with Rams QB coach Zac Robinson

The ongoing Saints offensive coordinator search added another name: the team requested an interview with Rams QB coach Zac Robinson

Here’s another name added to the New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator search: Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Robinson, who also works as the team’s pass game coordinator. NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill first reported that the Saints requested an interview with Robinson for their OC opening.

Robinson, 37, has been with the Rams since 2019 while working with both their quarterbacks and wide receivers, though he’s held his current titles for two years. He was credited for helping the L.A. offense stay afloat during a chaotic 2022 season in which four different quarterbacks started games after an injury sidelined Matthew Stafford.

It’s clear now that the Saints are looking for someone from Sean McVay’s coaching tree to help liven up their offense, which makes sense given the success his system has found around the league. Former Rams offensive line coach Kevin Carberry joined the New Orleans staff last offseason so there’s some familiarity here. We’ll see if anything comes of it.

10 offensive coordinator candidates the Eagles could target if Brian Johnson departs

We’re looking at ten offensive coordinator candidates the Philadelphia Eagles could target if Brian Johnson departs or is fired

Nick Sirianni officially has his own coaching tree after the Cardinals hired Jonathan Gannon and the Colts hired Shane Steichen in the 2023 coaching carousel.

Sirianni rightfully gets a lot of credit for the Eagles’ success.

Still, after a late-season meltdown that saw the Eagles go 1-6 in their final seven games, including the playoffs, the head coach and his assistant coaches could be on the hot seat.

Philadelphia’s third-year head coach has far exceeded expectations, but it’s clear that Gannon and Steichen played far more significant roles than we thought.

Predicting Patriots coach Jerod Mayo’s staff in post-Bill Belichick era

Predicting Patriots coach Jerod Mayo’s staff in 2024

The Jerod Mayo era has officially begun in New England.

He has some work to do to build up his staff in support of his new system. There will be ties to Bill Belichick on defense, as that defense will likely evolve into a system that is a foundation for coaches, much like the Kyle Shanahan-style offense is to the modern NFL offenses.

But Mayo will need to ensure that the staff is set up properly to develop, attract and retain talent to ultimately create an environment for winning. The modern NFL has thrived with former players taking the helm, and Mayo is next in line.

Building a staff and system will likely have Mayo’s personal touch, but it needs to be done properly, especially if they want to draft and develop one of the quarterbacks in the 2024 rookie class.

Let’s take a look at what Mayo could do to fill the staff around him and set up the team for the post-Belichick era:

10 coaching candidates for Patriots, if Bill Belichick gets fired

Here are 10 head coaching candidates that could replace Bill Belichick, if he gets fired by the team.

A new potential twist to the New England Patriots’ Week 10 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts has everyone with an opinion screaming it from the top of their lungs.

The Boston Globe’s Ben Volin recently reported that it wasn’t out of the question that Patriots coach Bill Belichick could be fired if the team loses to the Colts in Sunday’s trip to Germany. So it might really be a win-or-go-home situation for the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach.

It’s hard to envision the team ousting arguably the greatest coach of all time without a proper sendoff at the midway point in the season. But it does feel like Belichick could be on borrowed time in New England.

Whether it’s after the Colts game or at the end of the season, the Patriots could be merely days or months away from making a franchise-altering decision.

When and if the hammer falls, these are the 10 coaching candidates that could potentially take Belichick’s place.

Updated list of OC candidates the Eagles could target with Shane Steichen heading to the Colts

Here is an updated look at 10 offensive coordinator candidates the Philadelphia Eagles could target with Shane Steichen likely to accept the Colts’ head coaching job

Nick Sirianni now appears just days away from officially having his own coaching tree and with the expectation that Shane Steichen (Colts) and Jonathan Gannon (Cardinals) will land jobs, we’re taking an early look at potential replacements.

Sirianni rightfully gets a lot of credit for the Eagles’ success.

Philadelphia’s second-year head coach has far exceeded expectations and proven that he was the perfect target for the role. However, it’s important to remember that Steichen had a massive role in the offense.

Sirianni described this last summer how involved Steichen is with everything the Eagles have done offensively. He started calling plays late in the 2021 season, playing a pivotal role in the Birds’ offense taking off. It’s a change that carried over into 2022 with Philly boasting one of the top offenses all season.

Interest in Steichen will go beyond his work in Philadelphia. He served as the Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator in 2020, working alongside Justin Herbert in a record-setting rookie season.

Combine his work with Herbert and Jalen Hurts, and that’s a future NFL head coach.

Here’s an updated list of potential candidates with Steichen set to take his talents to the AFC.

Chargers passing on Thomas Brown and Zac Robinson, will hire Kellen Moore as OC

The Chargers are expected to hire Kellen Moore as their new OC, passing on Thomas Brown and Zac Robinson

It doesn’t appear that Thomas Brown or Zac Robinson will be heading to the other team that plays in Los Angeles. The Chargers interviewed both Rams assistants for their offensive coordinator position, but the team is going in a different direction.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Chargers are expected to hire Kellen Moore as their new offensive coordinator. He will replace Joe Lombardi, who the Chargers fired this offseason.

It seemed like the Chargers were keen on poaching another coach from the Rams, with Brown and Robinson being strong candidates. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN even reported that Robinson was considered the favorite for the job until Moore came along.

The Chargers also interviewed Rams senior assistant Greg Olson for the job.

As disappointing as it may be for Robinson and Brown to not get the opportunity with the Chargers – which would’ve come with the chance to call the offensive plays – it’s good news for the Rams as they hope to keep both on Sean McVay’s staff.

Albert Breer tabs front-runner for Chargers’ offensive coordinator position

One candidate stands above the rest that Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer sees ultimately getting the job.

The Chargers are in the thick of interviews as they’re diligently looking to find their next offensive coordinator.

The interview list is now up to six, and it could very well keep growing. But there is one candidate who stands above the rest that Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer sees ultimately getting the job.

Breer pegged Rams quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator Zac Robinson as the favorite to be Los Angeles’ OC.

I’d call Rams pass-game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Zac Robinson the front-runner for the Chargers’ OC job. Remember, Brandon Staley wanted to hire Kevin O’Connell from Sean McVay’s staff in 2021, and O’Connell was blocked from going. Robinson, as a former NFL QB, brings a lot of the same qualities O’Connell, along with the system, from McVay that I believe Staley would ideally like to have Justin Herbert running.

In his end-of-season press conference, head coach Brandon Staley mentioned that he would prefer to hire someone fluent in the Sean McVay/Kyle Shanahan offensive system. And Robinson has four years of working under McVay.

In addition to having extensive knowledge of the McVay offense, Robinson has a firm grasp of the passing game and the mentorship and development of quarterbacks as a former signal-caller himself, which would go a long way to getting the most out of Justin Herbert.

Robinson completed his interview with the Chargers on Monday, Jan. 23.

Ravens reportedly put in request to interview Rams’ Zac Robinson for vacant OC position

The Ravens put in a request to interview Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Zac Robinson

The Baltimore Ravens are now looking for a new offensive coordinator, as the team and former offensive coordinator Greg Roman officially parted ways on Thursday afternoon. The team will have no shortage of candidates, and will leave no stone unturned in hopes of finding their next successful play-caller.

On Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Baltimore has put in a request to interview Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Zac Robinson for their vacant offensive coordinator position. The Los Angeles Chargers also requested an interview with Robinson, showing that he will be a popular name during this coaching cycle.

Robinson worked as an analyst for Pro Football Focus, and was brought in by Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay in 2019. He also played for multiple seasons in the NFL as a quarterback.
