New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The New York Yankees (51-46) and Boston Red Sox (60-39) conclude their four-game series Sunday at Fenway Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Yankees vs. Red Sox odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Boston won the first two games of this series but New York rallied back from a 3-run deficit by scoring 4 runs in the top of the 8th inning to win Saturday, 4-3.

Season series: Red Sox lead 9-3.

RHP Domingo German is New York’s projected starter. German is 4-5 with a 4.71 ERA (86 IP, 45 ER), 1.24 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 8.4 K/9 over 16 starts and three relief appearances.

  • Last outing: No-decision with 4 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 3 BB and 5 K in New York’s 6-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday.
  • German is 0-1 this year against Boston with a 3.38 ERA (10 2/3 IP, 4 ER), 9 H, 3 BB and 6 K across two starts and one bullpen outing.
  • vs. Red Sox on the current roster: 3.70 FIP with a .225 batting average (BA), .295 wOBA, .428 expected slugging percentage (xSLG), 23.8 K% and 92.7 mph exit velocity (EV) in 80 plate appearances (PA).

LHP Martin Perez takes the hill for the Red Sox. Perez is 7-6 with a 4.16 ERA (88 2/3 IP, 41 ER), 1.48 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9 and 7.5 K/9 across 19 starts.

  • Last outing: Loss, 9-1, with 4 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 1 BB and 5 K at the Yankees last Sunday.
  • Perez is 0-1 against New York this season with a 3.52 ERA (7 2/3 IP, 3 ER), 11 H, 3 BB and 8 K in two starts.
  • vs. Yankees on the current roster: 6.07 FIP with a .288 BA, .384 wOBA, .418 xSLG, 20.9 K% and 92.6 mph EV in 86 PA.

Yankees at Red Sox odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 7:27 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Yankees +120 (bet $100 to win $120) | Red Sox -145 (bet $145 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Yankees +1.5 (-150) | Red Sox -1.5 (+125)
  • Over/Under: 10.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Yankees 7, Red Sox 5

Money line (ML)

“LEAN” to the YANKEES (+120) for a half unit because New York has the edge in the pitching department for this meeting.

First of all, Fenway Park has been unfriendly towards lefties historically and Perez has been much more effective on the road compared to at home.

For instance, Perez is 3-4 this season at home with a 5.80 ERA (2.47 road ERA), 1.80 WHIP (1.15 road WHIP) and 2.0 K/BB at home (3.5 K/BB on the road).

Despite recent choke jobs by New York’s bullpen its relievers still grade out as a top-tier group. The Yankees bullpen ranks in the top 5 of the majors in SIERA, xFIP, K-BB% and WAR.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS because German also struggles at Fenway Park so I’m not going to take a shot with the Yankees +0.5 (-115) First 5 Innings run line.

Also, New York has the league’s second-worst cover rate vs. divisional foes this season (17-30 ATS), which in turn makes the Yankees +1.5 (-150) too expensive.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 6 (-120) FIRST 5 INNINGS for a half unit because both starters get raked in Fenway but both bullpens are fantastic.

German’s 6.00 ERA in Fenway is even worse than Perez’s and the weather forecast predicts nearly 14 mph winds blowing out to left-centerfield.

However, this is a fairly obvious play since the full game total has been steamed from the 9.5-run opening total to the current number of 10.5 and typically it’s more profitable to take a contrarian approach on sports betting.

New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The New York Yankees (50-46) and Boston Red Sox (60-38) play the third game of a four-game set Saturday at Fenway Park. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Yankees vs. Red Sox odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Jameson Taillon is the projected starting pitcher for the Yankees. He is 5-4 with a 4.60 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 9.1 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 over 88 innings across 18 starts.

Taillon allowed 4 hits and 2 walks with 3 strikeouts across 5 1/3 scoreless innings Sunday in a win against the Red Sox last time out. He has won four straight decisions across the past eight starts since his last loss May 31.

Taillon is 1-0 with a 2.53 ERA and 6 strikeouts across 10 2/3 innings in two starts against the Red Sox this season.

RHP Nathan Eovaldi is the projected starting pitcher for the Red Sox. He is 9-5 with a 3.57 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 8.8 K/9 and 1.7 BB/9 across 108 1/3 innings in 19 starts.

Eovaldi allowed 1 run and 2 hits with a walk and 7 strikeouts across 5 innings in a no-decision at Yankee Stadium last Saturday.

The All-Star is 2-0 with a 1.45 ERA and 20 strikeouts across 18 2/3 innings over three starts against the Yankees this season.

  • Money line: Yankees +145 (bet $100 to win $145) | Red Sox -175 (bet $175 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Yankees +1.5 (-135) | Red Sox -1.5 (+110)
  • Over/Under: 9 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Red Sox 5, Yankees 2

Money line (ML)

The RED SOX (-175) are looking to go 3-for-3 to start this crucial series, and they’ll do just that behind Eovaldi. He has been dominant against his former team, outshining Gerrit Cole in a 3-1 win over the Yankees last time out.

Boston has outscored New York 11-6 through the first two games and they’ll get it done again here.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The RED SOX -1.5 (+110) is worth a roll of the dice at plus money. Boston has covered the run line in both of the first two games in this series, and each outing during their three-game win streak. They have won also won by 2 or more runs in each of their last six victories dating back to July 9.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 9 (-105) is the play. The Under has cashed in each of the first two games in this series while going 4-0-1 across the last five meetings between the two clubs since just July 16.

The Under is also 6-1-1 in the previous eight battles in this rivalry.

Friday’s top bets and picks for New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox

Geoff Clark offers up his analysis and best bets for Friday’s New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox odds and lines.

The Boston Red Sox (59-38) host the New York Yankees (50-45) for the second game of their four-game series at Fenway Park Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Yankees vs. Red Sox odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Red Sox lead 8-2.

RHP Gerritt Cole is New York’s projected starter. He is 10-4 with a 2.63 ERA (120 IP, 35 ER), 0.94 WHIP, 1.8 BB/9 and 11.9 K/9 over 19 starts.

  • Last outing: Win, 3-1, with 6 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 2 BB and 11 K Saturday against the Red Sox.
  • Cole is 1-1 against Boston this year with a 4.91 ERA (11 IP, 6 ER), 13 H, 4 BB and 17 K through two starts.
    • vs. Red Sox on the current roster (131 PA): 3.96 FIP with a .235 batting average (BA), .306 wOBA, .456 expected slugging percentage (xSLG), 31.3 K% and 92.7 mph exit velocity (EV)

LHP Eduardo Rodriguez makes his 19th start for the Red Sox. Rodriguez is 7-5 with a 5.19 ERA (95 1/3 IP, 55 ER), 1.33 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 10.6 K/9 this season.

  • Last outing: Win, 4-0, with 5 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 2 BB and 8 K against New York last Friday.
  • Rodriguez is 2-0 against the Yankees with a 2.65 ERA (17 IP, 5 ER), 12 H, 3 BB and 23 K over three starts this season.
    • vs. Yankees on the current roster (145 PA): 5.55 FIP with a .230 BA, .338 wOBA, .488 xSLG, 24.8 K% and 91.1 mph EV.

  • Money line: Yankees -110 (bet $110 to win $100) | Red Sox -110 (bet $110 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Yankees -1.5 (+150) | Red Sox +1.5 (-185)
  • Over/Under: 8.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Yankees 4, Red Sox 1

Money line (ML)

GIMME the YANKEES (-110) because Cole has bounced back from a couple of rough outings following MLB’s crackdown on pitchers using foreign substances to better grip the ball.

Over his last two starts against the Red Sox and Houston Astros, Cole has allowed just 1 earned run over 15 frames with 23 total strikeouts.

Both of those starts were technically complete-game efforts since the Yankees-Red Sox meeting July 17 was called after the sixth inning due to rain.

Cole’s 129-pitch CG victory over the Astros July 10 was one of the best outings for any starter this year and Cole looks ready to take the challenge of getting the Yankees back into the playoff race.

Also, while Rodriguez has pitched well against New York this year, the Yankees have hit him well and typically lefties don’t fair well against right-handed power hitters at Fenway Park.

New York is still missing OF Aaron Judge but it has enough power-hitting righties to drill Rodriguez if he’s not on-point Friday.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS because the Yankees have the second-worst cover rate in the majors against divisional foes this season with the second-worst run line margin.

The Red Sox are 22-15 ATS against AL East opponents.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the UNDER 8.5 (-105) for a tiny wager because of Cole’s recent performance, Rodriguez giving up only 5 earned runs over three starts against the Yankees this season and both bullpens are elite.

Plus, the Under is 3-0-1 over the last four Yankees-Red Sox meetings and New York is 8-11 O/U this year in games Cole starts.

New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The New York Yankees (50-44) and Boston Red Sox (58-38) play the opener of a four-game set Thursday at Fenway Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Yankees vs. Red Sox odds with MLB picks and predictions.

LHP Jordan Montgomery is the projected starting pitcher for the Yankees. He is 3-5 with a 4.18 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 9.0 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 over 99 innings across 18 starts.

The southpaw Montgomery has lost four straight outings, but three of those outings were quality starts. He allowed three earned runs, three hits and two walks with four strikeouts across six innings in a 4-0 loss against Boston Friday. The Yankees provided zero runs of offense in his past two outings.

RHP Tanner Houck is the projected starting pitcher for the Red Sox. He is 0-2 with a 3.38 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 10.1 K/9 and 1.4 BB/9 across 13 1/3 innings in 2 starts and 2 relief appearances.

Houck twirled three scoreless relief innings Friday at Yankee Stadium, allowing just one hit and one walk with three strikeouts in a 49-pitch effort.

  • Money line: Yankees +100 (bet $100 to win $100) | Red Sox -120 (bet $120 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Yankees -1.5 (+150) | Red Sox +1.5 (-185)
  • Over/Under: 10 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Yankees 6, Red Sox 3

Money line (ML)

The YANKEES (+100) are the play at even-money behind the southpaw. Yes, he has dropped four starts in a row, but he has been pitching his heart out and getting no offensive support in return.

The New York offense should be able to get to Houck in this showdown.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The YANKEES -1.5 (+150) are good value at plus-money. They have won by two or more runs three times during their current four-game win streak. Their offense is averaging 7.0 runs per game across the past three wins, so hopefully they’ll give Montgomery a little offensive love and reward him.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 10 (-105) is the lean in this series opener. The Under was 2-0-1 in last week’s three-game set at Yankee Stadium, and the Under is 4-1-1 in the past six head-to-head meetings between these bitter AL East rivals.

New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The New York Yankees (40-36) and Boston Red Sox (46-31) conclude their three-game set at Fenway Park Sunday with a 1:10 p.m. ET first pitch. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Yankees vs. Red Sox odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Red Sox lead 5-0.

RHP Gerrit Cole makes his 16th start for the Yankees. Cole is 8-3 with a 2.33 ERA (96 2/3 IP, 25 ER), 0.85 WHIP, 1.4 BB/9 and 11.5 K/9 this year.

  • Last outing: No-decision with 7 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 3 BB and 6 K in New York’s 6-5 loss to the Kansas City Royals Tuesday.
  • vs. Red Sox on the current roster: 96 at-bats with a .271/.304/.469 slash line, 30/5 K/BB, 4 HR and 8 RBIs.

LHP Eduardo Rodriguez is on the rubber for the Red Sox. Rodriguez is 5-4 with a 6.07 ERA (72 2/3 IP, 49 ER), 1.46 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 10.5 K/9 across 14 starts.

  • Last outing: No-decision with 6 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 1 BB and 7 K at Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday.
  • Rodriguez had a no-decision at the Yankees June 5 with a stat line of 5 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 1 BB and 7 K in Boston’s 7-3 win.
    • vs. Yankees on the current roster: 158 at-bats with a .259/.366/.506 slash line, 46/25 K/BB, 10 HR and 28 RBIs.

MLB betting offers/promotions

BetMGM Sportsbook offers available in CO, IA, IN, MI, NJ, PA, TN, VA, WV and Washington D.C. New customer offers, terms and conditions apply.

Yankees at Red Sox odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 5:36 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Yankees -155 (bet $155 to win $100) | Red Sox +125 (bet $100 to win $125)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Yankees -1.5 (+105) | Red Sox +1.5 (-125)
  • Over/Under: 8.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Prediction

Yankees 5, Red Sox 3

Money line (ML)

BET the YANKEES (-155) for 1 unit because Rodriguez struggles against right-handed hitters and New York’s lineup is littered with righty power-hitters.

Righties have a .308/.352/.509 slash line vs. Rodriguez this season (.254/.302/.424 slash line for left-handed batters) with a 3.9 K/BB rate compared to a 9.0 K/BB rate against lefties.

Furthermore, Cole has only surrendered more than two earned runs in two of his 15 starts this season. Rodriguez has given up at least three earned runs in eight straight starts and nine of his last 10 outings.

Also, not only is Cole a Cy Young favorite and Rodriguez has pitched like a “back of the rotation” starter this whole season, but Cole’s pitching peripherals vs. active Red Sox hitters are better than Rodriguez’s against current Yankees.

Cole has a better expected wOBA, expected batting average, expected slugging percentage and strikeout rate against current Red Sox batters with a 3.61 FIP compared to Rodriguez’s 6.17 FIP vs. active Yankees hitters.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS because New York is just 13-19 ATS this season as a road favorite and Boston is 7-4 ATS as a home underdog. I don’t see the value in laying it with the Yankees -1.5 (+105) for such a measly payout.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS since New York’s lineup cannot be trusted to carry the scoring if Cole ideally gives them a quality start and Boston’s lineup is 20th in both WAR and wRC+ and 25th in BB/K rate for June.

New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The New York Yankees (40-35) and Boston Red Sox (45-31) continue their three-game set at Fenway Park Saturday with a 7:15 p.m. ET first pitch. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Yankees vs. Red Sox odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Boston won the first game of the series Friday 5-3, as its bullpen pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just 3 hits and striking out 7 with 1 walk.

Season series: Red Sox lead 4-0.

LHP Jordan Montgomery makes his 15th start for the Yankees. Montgomery is 3-1 with a 4.03 ERA (76 IP, 34 ER), 1.17 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 8.9 K/9 this year.

  • Last outing: No-decision with 5 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB and 6 K in New York’s 2-1 win against the Oakland Athletics Sunday.
  • vs. Red Sox on the current roster: 59 at-bats with a .288/.344/.508 slash line, 13/4 K/BB, 4 HR and 8 RBIs.
  • Career at Fenway Park: 0-0 with a 6.59 ERA (13 2/3 IP, 10 ER), 1.61 WHIP and 1.9 K/BB rate over three starts.

RHP Nathan Eovaldi is on the rubber for the Red Sox. Eovaldi is 7-4 with a 3.90 ERA (83 IP, 36 ER), 1.27 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 8.5 K/9 over 15 starts.

  • Last outing: Loss, 7-3, with 4 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 1 BB and 4 K Sunday at the Kansas City Royals.
  • Eovaldi picked up a win June 4 at New York with a stat line of 6 IP, 1 ER, 8 H, 0 BB and 7 K in Boston’s 5-2 victory.
  • vs. Yankees on the current roster: 153 at-bats with a .275/.296/.412 slash line, 29/5 K/BB, 4 HR and 14 RBIs.

Yankees at Red Sox odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 7:55 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Yankees -105 (bet $105 to win $100) | Red Sox -115 (bet $115 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Yankees -1.5 (+145) | Red Sox +1.5 (-175)
  • Over/Under: 10 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Prediction

Yankees 6, Red Sox 3

Money line (ML)

GIMME the YANKEES (-105) for 1 unit because New York’s lineup has been producing closer to expectations this month and Boston’s lineup is less productive vs. left-handed pitching.

Yankees hitters are fifth in WAR, wRC+ and wOBA in June, while the Red Sox batters are 19th and 20th in each of those categories.

Furthermore, while Boston’s lineup is still 10th in wRC+ and wOBA when facing left-handed pitching it’s more productive against righties and just 13-11 vs. lefty starters.

Also, Eovaldi’s basic stats and 3.36 FIP against this current Yankees lineup trump those of Montgomery vs. active Red Sox hitters whose FIP against Boston is more than two runs higher.

However, Montgomery’s expected opponent’s wOBA, expected slugging percentage and strikeout rate against current Red Sox batters are all better than Eovladi’s vs. the Yankees, while his exit velocity is nearly 10 mph better than Eovaldi’s.

Aside from Gerrit Cole, Montgomery has been New York’s most reliable starter this season and there have been four Yankees’ losing skids this year snapped during Montgomery starts.

The YANKEES (-105) desperately need Montgomery to be sharp if New York is going to break a four-game losing streak to the Red Sox to keep pace in the AL East race.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS because I don’t like New York enough in this spot to lay it with Yankees -1.5 (+145) and would rather put a half unit on the total than sprinkle on the run line.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the UNDER 10 (-115) for a half unit as a “contrarian play” on a market that is barreling into the Over.

Thursday: The Yankees beat the Kansas City Royals 8-1, taking the final two games of a three-game home series. The Red Sox lost at the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0, dropping the final two contests of a three-game set.

Money line (ML)

The Yankees are hot, winning seven of their last nine, but at even-money, the value is with the RED SOX (+100).

They’re at home.

They’re 3-0 vs. the Yankees this season.

Perez is 5-2 in his last seven starts.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Bet the RED SOX +1.5 (-140) to WIN A HALF UNIT.

The Yankees are awful against the spread, posting a 29-45 mark to rank 29th (second to last) in the majors.

Boston’s 42-33 ATS record ranks fourth in the AL. But beware. The BoSox are 17-20 ATS at home.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 10.5 (-110) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager.

Only two of German’s 13 starts have seen 11 or more combined runs. He faced the Red Sox once already this season, yielding 1 ER in 5 2/3 innings of a no-decision.

The Under is 6-2 in Perez’s last eight starts, while nine of his 14 outings finished with 10 or fewer runs.

O/U records: Yankees 32-40-2 | Red Sox 36-38-1
