Commitment dates on the horizon for Oklahoma 2024 targets

Over the next seven weeks, a number of the Oklahoma Sooners high-profile 2024 prospects will be making their commitments. Who are they?

The summer months have already been kind to the Oklahoma Sooners on the recruiting trail, and we still have a month and a half until most high school seasons kick off for the 2023 season.

More than half of the Sooners’ commitments have come since June 1. They’ve picked up pledges from [autotag]James Nesta[/autotag], [autotag]Dozie Ezukanma[/autotag], [autotag]Xavier Robinson[/autotag], [autotag]Wyatt Gilmore[/autotag], [autotag]Davon Mitchell[/autotag] and [autotag]Jayden Jackson[/autotag]. With 13 commitments in the class of 2024, the Sooners sit 26th in the 247Sports team rankings and No. 17 in the On3 team rankings.

And that’s with a number of highly regarded prospects still to make their pledge in the coming weeks and months.

Here’s a look at who’s slated to commit during the next couple of months. We’ll update the list as players release commitment dates.

Twitter reacts to commitment of blue chip TE Davon Mitchell

The Oklahoma Sooners picked up a big time commitment from Davon Mitchell and Twitter reacted accordingly.

The Oklahoma Sooners picked up another big-time commitment for the 2024 recruiting class, tight end Davon Mitchell. As part of the 2025 class, Mitchell was considered a five-star prospect and one of the best players in the class.

Though his ranking and star rating may take a hit with the reclassification, the talent he exudes remains the same. The guy is a legit game-changer at the tight end position. He does everything you want a tight end to do well on the field in both the run and pass game, and he will bring tremendous size to Norman when he arrives on campus.

With his reclassification to 2024, the Sooners gain another weapon in the passing game to go along with Zion Kearney, Ivan Carreon, K.J. Daniels and Dozie Ezukanma.

Mitchell was one of the more highly anticipated commitments in the recruiting world. Alabama and Miami attempted to lure him from Oklahoma.

It was a commitment that had social media buzzing on Saturday, and here’s how Twitter reacted to Mitchell’s pledge to the Oklahoma Sooners, including reactions from future teammates and five-star defensive lineman David Stone.

Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from four-star EDGE Wyatt Gilmore

Oklahoma’s 10th commitment of the 2024 class comes from four-star EDGE Wyatt Gilmore out of Minnesota.

Oklahoma’s recruiting momentum is starting to materialize indeed. For the second straight day, the Sooners landed a commitment. Yesterday it was three-star 2024 RB Xavier Robinson. Today, it’s four-star EDGE and the No. 2 player in Minnesota, Wyatt Gilmore.

Gilmore committed to Oklahoma over Miami, Minnesota, Oregon, and Kansas State.

Oklahoma offered the 6-foot-4 240-pound defender in February and, after visiting the schools in his top five, chose Oklahoma when all was said and done.

Landing Gilmore helps open the door for other defensive linemen to commit to Oklahoma too. Defensive line in particular is where some of Oklahoma’s most highly sought-after targets for 2024 play.

Gilmore’s official visit to Oklahoma for the ChampU BBQ was the cherry on top. Not long after, predictions from recruiting services started to pour in.

Oklahoma hasn’t recruited the state of Minnesota often, so being able to pull any talented defender away from the allure of playing in the Big Ten is a solid recruiting win. Miguel Chavis continues to find success on the recruiting trail.

Gilmore’s commitment gives Oklahoma No. 10 for the class of 2024 and brings them up to 35th in the nation.

Oklahoma Sooners land commitment of 2024 RB Xavier Robinson

The Oklahoma Sooners earned a commitment from 2024 running back and Carl Albert prospect Xavier Robinson.

Oklahoma’s summer recruiting is starting to pick up. Last week dual-sport athlete [autotag]James Nesta[/autotag] and wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma committed to the Sooners. Now, another 2024 prospect hopped in the boat with the Oklahoma Sooners.

On Tuesday, running back [autotag]Xavier Robinson[/autotag] committed to Oklahoma. Robinson is a local, hailing from Midwest City, Oklahoma. Robinson plays his high school ball at Carl Albert.

Robinson is a three-star prospect and is considered the No. 6 player in the Sooner State. Last year he rushed for more than 2,500 rushing yards with 39 touchdowns. He was a driving force in Carl Albert’s Class 5A state championship, and he was named the 2022 Class 5A Offensive Player of the Year for Oklahoma. That season put him on the radar for quite a few college programs.

Robinson gives the Sooners the type of back they haven’t had on campus since Rhamondre Stevenson. At 6 feet, 2 inches and around 220 pounds, tackling Robinson will not be easy for defenders at the collegiate level.

After his junior season, Robinson received offers from Memphis, UNLV and Oklahoma Staten. On Jan. 27, the Sooners offered, and DeMarco Murray and Robinson immediately built a rapport. He also received offers from Iowa State, Notre Dame, Colorado, Kansas State, Kansas, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Memphis, Tulsa and Vanderbilt.

Robinson made an unofficial visit on March 4 and visited again in early June.

Iowa State has been Oklahoma’s biggest nemesis throughout the process, and it sometimes felt as though Iowa State had the leg up. However, after the visits and the dust cleared, each of the three primary recruiting services, 247SportsOn3 and Rivals, believed the Oklahoma Sooners would land [autotag]Xavier Robinson[/autotag]. And once the commitment date was announced, matters became crystal clear.

With Robinson on board, the Sooners have the first of possibly three running back commitments for the 2024 class.

A decision remains for four-star tailback [autotag]Caden Durham[/autotag], whose recruitment is likely down to LSU and Oklahoma. Four-star running back [autotag]Taylor Tatum[/autotag], regarded as the No. 1 RB in the nation per 247Sports, is deciding between Oklahoma and USC.

Robinson’s commitment also helps the Sooners on the recruiting trail. The dynamic runner is close with several other prospects from Oklahoma that the Sooners are recruiting heavily. He is joined at Carl Albert by Oklahoma’s 2025 QB commit, [autotag]Kevin Sperry[/autotag].

Sperry transferred to Carl Albert earlier this month to give Oklahoma’s reigning 5A champions an elite passer to go along with their dynamic rushing attack led by Robinson.

With Robinson and Sperry committed, both can help recruit some of the other highly talented players on Carl Albert’s roster that look to be Power Five talents: Trynae Washington (2025), Trystan Haynes (2025) and Marcus James (2025).

Oklahoma Sooners included in top 10 for Union CB Devon Jordan

The Oklahoma Sooners were included in the top 10 for 2024 3-Star Union High (Okla.) prospect Devon Jordan.

The Oklahoma Sooners are hoping to make a statement in the state of Oklahoma in the 2024 recruiting class. Although they missed out on [autotag]Xadavien Sims[/autotag], the Sooners are hoping to pull in a commitment from [autotag]Xavier Robinson[/autotag], [autotag]Danny Okoye[/autotag], and [autotag]Andy Bass[/autotag].

Another player from the Sooner State that has been on their radar is 2024 prospect [autotag]Devon Jordan[/autotag]. Jordan is a composite three-star player but is considered a four-star cornerback by Rivals and is the No. 4 player in the state.

Jordan included the Oklahoma Sooners in his top 10, along with Alabama, Miami, Texas A&M, TCU, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Iowa State, Missouri, and Vanderbilt.

The Union High star has elite speed and quickness that he uses to his advantage in coverage. He’s able to run with any wide receiver and displays a fantastic ability to break on the football. He’s a physical and willing tackler on the edge who comes downhill in a hurry in the running game or against wide receiver screens. Jordan displays good ball skills and looks back to find the ball while keeping locked on the wide receiver.

Jordan also displays an elite kick return ability. His speed allows him to get to the outside in the return game and run away from the kick coverage unit.

The in-state prospect was a visitor for the ChampU BBQ, giving Jay Valai an opportunity to really move the needle.

Still, the Sooners will have to overcome challenges from Oklahoma State and TCU for the athletic Devon Jordan.

Oklahoma Sooners 2024 commitment tracker

Which players are committed to the Oklahoma Sooners 2024 recruiting class and what do they bring to the football field?

The Oklahoma Sooners are hoping to follow a pair of top-10 recruiting classes in 2022 and 2023 with another in the 2024 recruiting cycle. The Sooners’ 6-7 season didn’t affect the finish to the 2023 recruiting class, which finished No. 4 in the nation according to 247Sports.

Brent Venables and his staff are hoping to have a repeat of that success or better and have themselves well-positioned to be near the top of the rankings when it’s all said and done in 2024.

Much of the success of this class will be determined by how well the Oklahoma Sooners recruit the defensive line ahead of their move to the SEC in 2024. In a strong defensive line class, the Sooners are in a good spot with a number of highly-coveted prospects. They finally broke the ice on their defensive line recruiting with the addition of Wyatt Gilmore, the No. 2 player in the state of Minnesota and a four-star prospect.

All eyes turn to players like [autotag]David Stone[/autotag], [autotag]Williams Nwaneri[/autotag], [autotag]Dominick McKinley[/autotag], [autotag]Jayden Jackson[/autotag], [autotag]Nigel Smith[/autotag], [autotag]Danny Okoye[/autotag], [autotag]Jayshawn Ross[/autotag], [autotag]Joseph Jonah-Ajonye[/autotag], and [autotag]Zina Umeozulu[/autotag].

They will not land all of their targets, but Venables, [autotag]Ted Roof[/autotag], [autotag]Todd Bates[/autotag] and [autotag]Miguel Chavis[/autotag] have made a strong impression on an impressive group of defensive line prospects.

Still just over five months out from the early signing period, here’s a look at who is committed to the Oklahoma Sooners as of July 1, 2023.

Oklahoma Sooners RB target Xavier Robinson sets commitment date

Oklahoma Sooners 2024 running back target Xavier Robinson sets commitment date.

The Oklahoma Sooners look to be closing in on a commitment from several running backs in the 2024 recruiting class. One of them is 2022 Class 5A Offensive Player of the Year in Oklahoma, Xavier Robinson.

Robinson, a star out of Carl Albert High School, announced via his Twitter account that he’ll be making his commitment decision on June 27 at 5 pm CT.

With more than 2,500 rushing yards in 2022, Robinson helped lead Carl Albert to the Class 5A state championship and put himself on the radar of Power Five programs across the country, earning offers from Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Iowa State in the process.

The Sooners appear to be the favorites to land a commitment from the 6-foot-2, 225-pound in-state runner. Each of the three major recruiting services, 247Sports, On3, and Rivals, believes the Oklahoma Sooners will land Xavier Robinson. Each of the predictions from those sites favors Oklahoma.

Robinson is an athletic player that will remind people of Rhamondre Stephenson with how he combines his light feet and power running style to create big plays in the running game.

2025 OU QB commit Kevin Sperry transfers to Oklahoma high school powerhouse Carl Albert

Oklahoma 2025 QB commit Kevin Sperry transferring to Oklahoma high school powerhouse Carl Albert for remainder of high school career.

While he won’t be signing and moving on campus at Oklahoma until the winter of 2024, Kevin Sperry will be playing his next two years of high school football in the Sooner State.

In a massive high school news update that has ripples across the Texas and Oklahoma high school football scenes, 2025 Oklahoma QB commit Kevin Sperry is transferring to Carl Albert (OK) High School, according to a report from SoonerScoop’s Josh McCuistion.

Sperry leaves Rock Hill High School in Prosper, Texas, behind and joins the defending 5A state champions from Oklahoma. It’s a massive move for all parties involved.

Sperry spent the last two weeks in Oklahoma camping with the Sooners, where he spent time passing to future teammates like Gracen Harris, another 2025 commit for Oklahoma. Kevin Sperry Sr. shared that his son wasn’t ready to leave Oklahoma after spending the last two weeks camping in Norman.

In the piece, Sperry Sr. revealed the family had already been contemplating a move to Oklahoma following the younger Sperry’s junior season. Still, instead of waiting the extra year, they decided the time was now.

Sperry joins a loaded Carl Albert squad. Five other athletes hold offers from the Oklahoma Sooners.

2024 running back offer Xavier Robinson is trending to land with Oklahoma after his official visit this weekend for the ChampU BBQ. He wrapped his junior season with 2,594 yards and 39 TDs on 9.4 yards per carry. He averaged 185.3 rushing yards per game.

2025 CB Trystan Haynes is a consensus four-star CB. 2025 ATH Trynae Washington holds offers from Oklahoma, Iowa State, and Kansas. It’s expected his recruitment will explode soon. 2025 offer Marcus James will also be in the fold as well. He holds Sooners, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and Tulsa offers.

Carl Albert, the 2022 Class 5A  state champion was already a remarkably talented squad. With Sperry at the helm for the next two years, it gives Carl Albert one of the more talented passers in the 2025 recruiting class to lead the offense. In his sophomore season, Sperry threw over 1,500 yards and nine touchdowns.

With Sperry in the building, Oklahoma’s chances of landing Robinson go up, improving their chances to recruit the other Oklahoma offers in the program.

Sperry will also be much closer to Norman, so frequent visits to his future home are certainly on the table.

Oklahoma Sooners receive key recruiting predictions

ChampU BBQ is coming to a close today and so far the Sooners do not have any public commitments.

ChampU BBQ is coming to a close on Sunday, and so far the Sooners do not have any public commitments.

But, don’t worry Sooner Nation that doesn’t mean this weekend has been a bust. The Sooners have received recruiting predictions for three key players.

Those players are four-star running back Caden Durham, three-star running back Xavier Robinson and four-star safety Mykel Patterson-McDonald.

Why is this so important? Well, those three are very close friends with five-star defensive lineman David Stone.

Durham has talked about how important relationships are, so it would only help the Sooners’ chances if his friends commit to OU. He has received two predictions this weekend in favor of the Sooners.

One of them was from OUInsider’s Parker Thune and another was from a Texas A&M insider.

Robinson received predictions from Sooners Illustrated and OUInsider as well.

Patterson-McDonald received a prediction from OUInsider in addition to several others.

If the Sooners can land those three, I just don’t see a world where Stone doesn’t join them in Norman. Yet, individually, they’d be fantastic additions in their own right.

Robinson ran for 2,500 yards to lead Carl Albert to a Class 5A state championship in Oklahoma. Durham led Duncanville to a Texas Class 6A state title after running for 2,000 yards. Patterson-McDonald is a physical playmaker that plays with confidence and speed.

The Sooners look to be on the verge of landing several big-time playmakers in the 2024 class.

The trio would be a great way to build some momentum for the 2024 recruiting class.

Now, it’s unclear when they will commit, whether that’s to Oklahoma or somewhere else but it doesn’t hurt that there’s momentum for Brent Venables and Co.

So, while there have not been any commitments, the recent momentum of predictions in favor of the Sooners means this weekend appears to be a success.

Iowa State insider predicts Xavier Robinson to the Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners appear to be trending again for in-state four-star running back Xavier Robinson.

The Oklahoma Sooners’ running back recruiting efforts for the 2024 recruiting cycle are interesting. Quite a few names have been projected to the Sooners over the last year, but as official visits take place, it seems we’re getting an idea who DeMarco Murray and the Sooners want in their 2024 running back class.

That appears to be the case for 2024 running back Xavier Robinson. Robinson, an in-state prospect from Carl Albert High School, looked like he was trending to the Sooners in the spring. Now after spending some time Notre Dame and Iowa State, Oklahoma’s arrow keeps pointing up for The Oklahoman’s Class 5A offensive player of the year for 2022.

Iowa State insider’s Nick Olsen issued a crystal ball prediction on Thursday, believing Oklahoma will be able to keep the talented Robinson in the Sooner State.
