Even though the Badgers aren’t starting their football season in 10 days like previously scheduled, Wisconsin players and coaches are still staying ready for whenever the team and the conference are able to take the field.

The latest posted workout video comes from freshman running back and former four-star recruit Jalen Berger.

Berger was one of Paul Chryst’s biggest acquisitions in the class of 2020 and by all accounts has the potential to become the next big thing in the Badger backfield.

The Ramsey, New Jersey native was ranked by 247Sports during his recruitment as the No. 137 player in the class of 2020, the No. 15 running back and the No. 3 recruit from the state of New Jersey.

And yes, the parallels will probably be drawn between him and New Jersey natives Corey Clement and Jonathan Taylor–both guys who became stars at the position for the Badgers and are currently playing in the NFL.

Maybe it won’t be until the spring or even next fall that Berger takes the field for the first time in a Wisconsin Badger uniform, but Badger fans definitely have something to look forward to as he seems to be the next in a long line of great Badger running backs and figures to have an extremely productive college career.

Packers workout 6 players, including WRs A.J. Taylor, La’Michael Pettway

The Packers worked out former Badgers WR A.J. Taylor on Sunday.

A pair of wide receivers were among the six players who worked out for the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, receivers A.J. Taylor and La’Michael Pettway, quarterback J’Mar Smith, tight end Hunter Thedford, guard Fisayo Awolaja and offensive tackle Chidi Okeke all worked out in Green Bay on Sunday.

Taylor played 40 games for the Wisconsin Badgers, catching 66 passes for 1,049 yards and eight touchdowns. He also carried 10 times for 45 yards and returned 14 kickoffs.

Pettway was a grad transfer from Arkansas to Iowa State in 2019, when he caught 55 passes for 676 yards and six touchdowns.

Smith, a quarterback from Lousiana Tech, completed 236 of 367 passes for 2,977 yards and 18 touchdown passes in 2019, leading the Bulldogs to a 10-1 record. He originally signed with the New England Patriots following the 2020 draft.

Thedford, a tight end who transferred from SMU to Utah, played in 14 games but caught just two passes during his final collegiate season.

Awolaja spent time with the New Orleans Saints last season, while Okeke spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs last season.

Saints try out two defensive backs after losing rookie to injured reserve

The New Orleans Saints tried out free agent cornerbacks Christopher Fredrick and Kemon Hall after rookie Tino Ellis went to injured reserve.

[jwplayer b7VcnCYu-ThvAeFxT]

The New Orleans Saints reported two free agent visits on Saturday’s daily NFL transactions wire: cornerbacks Christopher Fredrick and Kemon Hall. So who are they?

Fredrick (listed at 5-foot-11 and 198 pounds) is an undrafted rookie out of Syracuse, where he started 43 consecutive games at cornerback. He was credited with 23 pass defenses (including eight interceptions) in 49 games played, as well as five fumbles (three forced, two recovered). What’s interesting is that Fredrick also ran with the special teams units throughout his Syracuse career, experience which should help his odds of catching on with an NFL roster.

Hall (listed at 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds) is a North Texas product who spent the 2019 season on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad, but hasn’t yet found a team in 2020. After transferring from Itawamba Community College in Mississippi, he started 25 straight games in the Conference USA and recorded 28 passes defensed (6 of which were interceptions), with a forced fumble thrown in for good measure. That suggests some real playmaking ability, but he’ll have to have wowed the Saints in his free agent tryout to get a shot on the 80-man roster.

But why were the Saints bringing in more help for the secondary, which has impressed in training camp practices? It’s possible they simply need more bodies to help round out the daily rotation after rookie cornerback Tino Ellis (Maryland) was designated to the injured reserve list earlier this week.

With Ellis out of action, that leaves the Saints with the following healthy cornerbacks:

  • Marshon Lattimore
  • Janoris Jenkins
  • P.J. Williams
  • Patrick Robinson
  • Justin Hardee
  • Johnson Bademosi
  • Keith Washington Jr. (rookie, West Virginia)

They haven’t signed anyone yet, but keep an eye out in case either of these free agents ends up joining the Saints for the rest of training camp. Earlier this week, they signed reserve tight end Ethan Wolf after a similar workout session.

Broncos bring in WR Cody White for a tryout

The Broncos hosted wide receiver Cody White on a tryout basis on Friday.

The Denver Broncos had rookie wide receiver Cody White visit their facility for a tryout on Friday, according to the NFL’s transaction wire.

White (6-3, 215 pounds) played college football at Michigan State and opted to forego his senior season to enter the 2020 NFL Draft. After going unselected in April’s draft, White signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as a college free agent.

White didn’t survive early cuts in Kansas City when the Chiefs trimmed their roster from 90 players down to 80 players last month. White then landed with the New York Giants. New York waived White on Aug. 16.

In three seasons with the Spartans, White caught 143 passes for 1,967 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also rushed 11 times for 63 yards and another score. White posted college career-highs in catches (66) receiving yards (922) and receiving touchdowns (six) as a junior last fall.

Denver might be looking to add some more depth at wide receiver with KJ Hamler (hamstring) and Juwann Winfree (groin) battling injuries.

Best ways to workout outside the gym

No gym, no problem—here are a few different options to keep you healthy and fit.

With gyms shut down, personal training sessions canceled, and group workouts put on pause, 2020 has been hard on our mental and physical health. But that does not mean you need to quit on your fitness goals. Whether your weight loss journey has just begun or you’re a long-time fitness fanatic, there are things you can do, even outside the gym, to help stay in shape and keep healthy.

Let’s check out a few of the best non-gym workouts you need to try.

Take the elliptical outdoors

One of the common objections to working outdoor workouts outside the gym is that they are overly-hard on your muscles and joints. Shooting hoops, playing tennis, and jogging are all fun activities, but taxing on joints and tendons, no matter your age or fitness level. Even pro athletes feel the wear and tear from high-impact workouts.

For many folks, chronic pain and recurring injury make some outdoor activities impossible. The good news is that several low-impact workout methods do the job without the risk of getting hurt or aggravating old injuries.

The American Sports and Fitness Association defines low-impact exercise as “anything easy on the joints or gentle and in a fluid motion.”

Sounds great, but not everyone has access to a pool, and walking around the block doesn’t exactly burn a ton of calories.

But low-impact does not have to mean low intensity. You can still get your body into fat-burning mode while keeping that heart rate high. You just need the right tools.  The elliptical machine is a great low impact workout and the world’s first outdoor elliptical

These sleek human-powered vehicles are unlike anything you’ve seen before and provide a fantastic low impact, full-body workout that you’ve been missing at the gym. Users describe the outdoor elliptical experience as ‘running on air,’ and you can burn up to 1000 calories an hour.

Here are just a few benefits of the StreetStrider outdoor elliptical:

  • Unlike stationary elliptical machines that weigh 100+ pounds and take up tons of space, the StreetStrider is low-profile and even folds up for easy storage and transportation.
  • You’re exercising outdoors, and studies have shown that outdoor exercise makes you feel more revitalized, have increased energy levels, and feel more satisfied.
  • It can be transformed into stationary ellipticals with the indoor stand, so if the weather is bad outside, you can still get a workout indoors.
  • Lean-to-Steer technology makes navigation intuitive and fun, like skiing down the street!
  • Multiple gears let you pick your resistance level, and you can even climb up hills.
  • Adjustable arm levers and long foot platforms deliver a comfortable and smooth ride.
  • You can customize with bags, racks, bells, and even child carrier seats so your child or dog can come along for the ride.

As you can see, these are one-of-a-kind machines, and it’s no surprise that the waitlist is growing just to get your hands on one.

It’s worth browsing the StreetStrider site to learn about the incredible technology behind the product and to read a few of the life-changing testimonials from real customers. Demand is at all-time highs, so get moving!

The next best thing

Rowing is one of the best low-impact exercises you can do. It burns calories, builds muscle, flexibility and more.

According to top research, rowing engages a whopping 86% of the body’s muscle groups, compared to 44% activated by cycling.

The problem for many, though, is that either real rowing is too inconvenient or that machine-based rowing is too boring—this is where Hydrow comes in. With its tech-packed rowing machine, Hydrow gives you all the fun of being on the water with all the convenience of working out from home.

Featuring a bright 22” HD touchscreen, you can keep close track of your output in freestyle mode or follow along with exclusive workouts from professional instructors. Bennie Fowler joined Saints after workout with Emmanuel Sanders, Drew Brees

The New Orleans Saints reunited two former Denver Broncos, Emmanuel Sanders and Bennie Fowler, after Drew Brees put them through their paces

[jwplayer 2CPn5E98-ThvAeFxT]

The NFL is woven together by connections. Connections between coaches who have worked together at the pro and college levels, connections between players who were teammates on different squads — you name it, and it’s probably factored into some shot-caller’s decision-making at some point.

And that might be the case for New Orleans Saints wide receiver Bennie Fowler. The 29-year old free agent signed with the Saints earlier this week following a wave of roster cuts and several opt-outs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, helping round out the depth chart to an NFL-mandated 80 contracts.

But before that, Fowler picked up the phone when Emmanuel Sanders called to invite him to a workout with Drew Brees.

Sanders explained his background with Fowler in a media conference call: “Bennie’s been my boy ever since he came into the Broncos locker room. I took him under my wing and he became my workout buddy. So every Tuesday we would have days off, me and Bennie would meet up at the Broncos facility and throw passes for like an hour and work on our game and work on different mentalities.”

Brees flew into Denver back in June, where Sanders lives and trains during the offseason, and where Fowler still resides after joining the Broncos back in 2014. He spent the last two seasons playing a bit part in the New York Giants offense, but maintains a regular workout schedule with Sanders over the summer. That familiarity just might have helped him land a job.

“And then Drew comes in and Drew says that, like if I could bring another guy it would be good because he wanted to get some extra work in as well,” Sanders recounted. “So I told Bennie, who was a free agent, so it worked out that way. Which is pretty cool because now after every practice, me and him we would stay after, just like we did in Denver, working on our game and catching passes. So it has been cool.”

It’s possible that Brees saw something to like in the fleet-footed Fowler; he was credited with a 4.38-second time in the 40-yard dash at his Michigan State pro day, way back when, but Sanders is quick to insist he’s faster now because he’s a little shorter and lighter than his longtime training partner. Whatever influence Brees may have on who joins the Saints for training camp, Fowler fills a hole now as one of the faster receivers on the team.

Fowler also has a footnote in history as the last NFL player to catch a pass thrown by Peyton Manning, having scored on a two-point conversion in Super Bowl 50. Maybe his experience playing with one NFL legend will help him win a roster spot when paired with another.

Former Broncos LB Brandon Marshall visits the Texans

The Houston Texans brought in inside linebacker Brandon Marshall for a visit.

The Houston Texans are evaluating the free agent pool when it comes to inside linebackers.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans brought in former Jacksonville Jaguars and Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall for a visit.

Marshall worked out for the Texans last season after the Oakland Raiders cut him to finalize their 53-man roster at the end of preseason, but the Texans didn’t pursue any further.

The Super Bowl 50 champion signed with the Raiders in 2019 after the Broncos declined the option on Marshall’s contract. After his end-of-preseason release, Marshall returned to Oakland in late October, but his tenure hardly lasted a week.

The Nevada product’s best years with the Broncos were from 2014-17 when he collected 281 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 28 tackles for loss, two interceptions, 20 pass breakups, five forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery, which he returned for a touchdown.

Adding Marshall would give the Texans’ depth at inside linebacker where Benardrick McKinney and Zach Cunningham are the starters. Dylan Cole, who is recovering from an ACL injury, provides support along with Tyrell Adams.

Unsurprisingly, Saints aren’t an odds-on favorite to sign Antonio Brown

The New Orleans Saints are not among the favorites to sign ex-Steelers, -Raiders, and -Patriots wide receiver Antonio Brown per BetOnline.

[jwplayer mVv4mgFy-ThvAeFxT]

The New Orleans Saints were the last team to host embattled wide receiver Antonio Brown for a free agent workout, but they aren’t being considered by oddsmakers as a viable betting favorite. That’s probably because Brown had a meltdown in its aftermath, producing a high-profile, profane diss track against Sean Payton and claiming the Saints only invited him as part of a bizarre publicity stunt.

So it shouldn’t shock anyone that BetOnline hasn’t included the Saints in their list of favorites to sign Brown, who recently agreed to serve an eight-game suspension for multiple NFL personal conduct policy violations. The top spot belongs to the Green Bay Packers (2/1), but the same sportsbook has better odds of Brown not playing any games at all in 2020 (2/3). Other teams on their radar include the Seattle Seahawks (5/2), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3/1) and Baltimore Ravens (4/1), each of whom have been connected to Brown to some degree in recent weeks.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next. For his part, before his suspension was announced, Brown had mused on social media about maybe retiring from the NFL again. But it sure doesn’t seem like anyone expects the Saints to link up with him again.

Report: Former Seahawk Ziggy Ansah going through physical with 49ers

Former Seattle Seahawks defensive end, Ziggy Ansah, is currently going through a physical and COVID-19 with the San Francisco 49ers.

A former member of the Seattle Seahawks might be staying in the NFC West this season after all. Defensive end Ziggy Ansah is currently going through a physical with the division-rival San Francisco 49ers, accourding to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“This is interesting: Former Seahawks pass-rusher and current free agent Ziggy Ansah is going through a physical and COVID-19 testing with the 49ers, sources say,” Rapoport tweeted on Tuesday. “Nothing is done, but SF gets a first look at a potentially high-end edge talent.”

Ansah spent one season in Seattle and logged just 10 solo tackles, six assists and 2.5 sacks on the year.
