Fab Four: Selecting Wisconsin football’s Mount Rushmore of all-time recruits

On the eve of early signing day, Badgers Wire recalls the most hyped commits in school history.

Wisconsin has never been known as the hot spot for five-star recruits in college football. The Badgers have built a program off of walk-on development, three-star talent that develops into five-star talent, and a culture that goes back to the days of Barry Alvarez patrolling the sidelines.

That doesn’t mean that, especially recently, the Badgers haven’t pulled in some major recruiting wins. This program has taken a serious turn in its recruiting over the past decade, culminating in its best class of all time in 2021. So, who are the best recruits of all time to sign in Madison, Wisconsin?

For the reasons above, multiple players on this list are current Badgers or haven’t even played a snap of Wisconsin football. Regardless of their eventual performance on the field and strictly focusing on their profile as recruits, here is a look at the “Mount Rushmore” of Badger football recruiting.

How the Michigan-OSU cancelation affects Wisconsin’s champions week game

The Badgers next opponent could be determined based on the Big Ten’s decision surrounding OSU

With recent news of a rivalry game cancelation in the Big Ten, Wisconsin football could be looking at a few different options for champions week. Ohio State and Michigan was officially called off this morning, which leaves the Buckeyes at just five games played for the time being.

The Big Ten rule to qualify for the championship game is that at a team must play six games, but those guidelines could change this week. There is also the possibility of Ohio State finding a sixth game due to another in-conference cancelation, or the Big Ten allowing the Buckeyes to play an out of conference game.

So, how does this change Wisconsin’s final game of the year? If the Badgers lose to Iowa, it doesn’t. If UW can find a way to beat the Hawkeyes on Saturday, they would finish second in the Big Ten West, and be in line to play the second place team in the Big Ten East. If Ohio State can’t find a sixth game and the Big Ten does not change the rules, the Buckeyes would meet the Badgers during championship week. If Ohio State qualifies for the championship game, Indiana would be Wisconsin’s likely opponent.

There is also a rumor, that is currently just a rumor, that Wisconsin may try and schedule the battle for the axe with Minnesota during championship week. Nothing concrete has developed surrounding that possibility.

Wisconsin football barely stays in the latest Amway Coaches Poll

After their second consecutive ugly loss, Wisconsin continued to fall in the latest Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

A 14-6 loss at home against Indiana saw the Hoosiers rise up to No. 9 and the Badgers fall to No. 25 in this week’s rankings.

The top four remains unchanged, with Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson, and Ohio State all staying put.

Ohio State staying in the top four may be contingent on a rule change from the Big Ten that would allow them play in the Big Ten championship game. The Big Ten’s CFP hopes ride on the Buckeyes.

Five stats that defined Wisconsin football’s loss to Indiana

It may have been a new week for Wisconsin football, but it felt like the same old story for the Badgers in their 14-6 home loss against Indiana.

Being down bodies on the offensive line, having senior WR Danny Davis out for a second consecutive week, and struggling in the red zone led to six total points for UW. Defensively, Jim Leonhard’s group showed up as they always do, but it was not enough to lift the Badgers over a Hoosiers team that improved to 6-1.
