2023 Four-star center Gus Yalden is on an official visit to Wisconsin

A high priority recruit in the 2023 recruiting class is on an official visit to Wisconsin:

Greg Gard’s first offer in the 2023 recruiting class went out to center Gus Yalden all the way back in July of 2020. Today, the junior center began what’s expected to be a three-day official visit on UW’s campus.

Per 247Sports, Yalden is the nation’s No. 16 ranked center in the class of 2023 and the No. 93 ranked player in the country.

The 6-foot-8, 240-pound center currently holds offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Butler, Iowa, Illinois, Florida State, Louisville, Marquette, Nebraska, Rutgers, Stanford, Utah, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Xavier, and a host of others.

Yalden is a high priority recruit for the Badgers, and for good reason. He’s a stretch big man with impressive footwork, and floor vision. This is your prototypical Wisconsin big man.

Wisconsin basketball lands Wofford transfer G Max Klesmit

Wisconsin basketball lands Wofford transfer G Max Klesmit. #Badgers

After narrowing his list of transfer destinations down to South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Clemson, and Colorado State, a sought after in-state transfer had a change of heart.

Yesterday afternoon, Wofford transfer guard Max Klesmit announced his decision on Twitter that he would be coming home and joining the Badgers next season.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound shooting guard started 31 games for the Terriers last season and averaged 14.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game as a sophomore en route to being named a third-team all-Southern Conference performer.

A native of Neenah, Wisconsin, Klesmit gives the Badgers an experienced guard that can stretch the floor (68 made three’s last season), but also has the ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim.

The former three-time all-state combo guard has two years of eligibility remaining, three should he exercise his extra covid year.

Klesmit is now the second Wisconsin native to transfer to UW this offseason, joining UW-Green Bay point guard Kamari McGee.

See where Johnny Davis lands in CBS latest 2022 NBA Mock Draft:

After being named a consensus first-team All-American, Big Ten Player of the Year, and the Lute Olson National Player of the Year, sophomore guard Johnny Davis decided it was time to take his talents to the NBA.

CBS Sports college basketball columnist Garry Parrish’s most recent 2022 mock draft had the La Crosse (Wis.) native being selected 8th overall to the New Orleans Pelicans.

The former La Crosse Central standout led the Badgers in scoring and rebounding, finishing his sophomore season averaging 19.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

A projected lottery pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, Davis is set to become the first Badger drafted since Frank Kaminsky (9th overall) and Sam Dekker (18th overall) were selected in the 2015 NBA Draft.

Wisconsin basketball makes the top three for 2022 F Luke Northweather

Wisconsin basketball makes the top three for 2022 F Luke Northweather. #Badgers

Armed with three scholarships, and having just one recruit signed in the 2022 class (Essegian), it would appear that Greg Gard and company might be looking to add another big man to their incoming class.

It was reported that three-star forward Luke Northweather from Jefferson City, Missouri would be taking an official visit to Wisconsin this week, and now it would appear he’s also trimmed up his list.

The Blair Oaks High School standout stated that moving forward in his recruitment he is going to be focused on Missouri, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin.

The 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward was the Missouri Gatorade State Player of the Year as a senior, posting averages of 29 points and 11 rebounds on 70% shooting from the field.

Northweather has an intriguing skill-set that would undoubtedly fit well at a school like Wisconsin. He’s a back to the basket big man capable of stepping out and knocking down three’s, all while being a more than willing passer.

Five Badgers that boosted their stock during spring football practice

Five players that boosted their stock during spring football practice:

Spring football has officially come to a close for the Wisconsin Badgers, who wrapped up their spring evaluation period last Friday night.

Head coach Paul Chryst made a significant amount of changes along the coaching staff this offseason, so this initial installation period allowed those coaches their first real look at their respective position groups.

UW essentially has players competing for meaningful snaps at every position heading into fall camp. The offense lost six preferred starters from last season, while the nation’s top defensive unit needs to replace eight starters of their own in 2022.

Spring football is about trying new things, generating competition, and forcing players out of their comfort zones.

So, it’s important that fans understand no starting positions are going to be won in the spring. However, it can lead to additional opportunities once camp opens in the fall.

Today, we’re going to examine five players that boosted their stock during the Badgers 15 spring practices:

Wisconsin misses the cut in ESPN’s 2023 NCAA Tournament projection

Wisconsin misses the cut in ESPN’s 2023 NCAA Tournament projection:

College basketball knows no off-season, whether it be programs re-configuring their coaching staffs, on the road recruiting, or working the always busy transfer portal – college basketball never sleeps.

So, is it really too early to start thinking about the 2023 college basketball season?

Joe Lunardi of ESPN doesn’t think so, considering he recently released his first 2023 NCAA Tournament projections.

Overall, he had seven Big Ten programs projected to make the big dance, however, the Badgers were noticeably absent.

Lunardi had Wisconsin listed among the first four out, which might be fair given the current state of the roster and the amount of production still needing to be replaced.

Thankfully, Greg Gard and company still have three available scholarships to retool this roster and get them back to the big dance.

Check out Lunardi’s complete bracket below:
