After narrowing his list of transfer destinations down to South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Clemson, and Colorado State, a sought after in-state transfer had a change of heart.

Yesterday afternoon, Wofford transfer guard Max Klesmit announced his decision on Twitter that he would be coming home and joining the Badgers next season.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound shooting guard started 31 games for the Terriers last season and averaged 14.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game as a sophomore en route to being named a third-team all-Southern Conference performer.

A native of Neenah, Wisconsin, Klesmit gives the Badgers an experienced guard that can stretch the floor (68 made three’s last season), but also has the ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim.

The former three-time all-state combo guard has two years of eligibility remaining, three should he exercise his extra covid year.

Klesmit is now the second Wisconsin native to transfer to UW this offseason, joining UW-Green Bay point guard Kamari McGee.

Wisconsin has reportedly reached out to a transfer forward from a Big Ten rival:

Greg Gard and his coaching staff have been incredibly active in the transfer portal this offseason as they look to add some much needed depth to the program.

On Thursday, Jake Lieberman reported that Wisconsin was among a long list of potential suitors that had reached out to Illinois transfer forward Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk.

The 6-foot-8, 235-pound forward appeared in 24 games for the Illini last season. In just over seven minutes per game, Bosmans-Verdonk averaged 1.6 points, and 2.1 rebounds on 47% shooting from the field.

The Belgium native has reportedly heard from Wisconsin, South Carolina, Tulsa, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Saint Louis, Loyola Marymount, and a host of others.

Wisconsin showing interest in Tampa transfer wing Max Jones

Wisconsin showing interest in one of the top D2 players in the transfer portal:

Greg Gard and his coaching staff have been putting plenty of feelers out in the transfer portal this offseason as they look to add some much needed depth to the program.

On Sunday, ESPN College Basketball Insider Jeff Borzello reported that Wisconsin was among a long list of programs that had reached out to Tampa transfer Max Jones.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound wing averaged 21.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists on 44% shooting for the Spartans this past season.

Jones is widely regarded as one of the top D2 transfers, and has reportedly heard from Wisconsin, Virginia, Villanova, LSU, Alabama, Western Kentucky, Iowa State, Cal State Fullerton, FAU, and Texas A&M.

A Wisconsin transfer portal target is headed to the Mountain West

The Badgers missed out on a D2 transfer target:

Since the conclusion of the NCAA Tournament, Wisconsin has been active in the transfer portal, and have been linked to a number of intriguing prospects.

It was reported several weeks ago that UW had made contact with former Brookfield East standout and two-time D2 All-American Patrick Cartier of Hillsdale College.

Earlier today, the 6-foot-8 forward announced that he would be transferring to Colorado State of the Mountain West Conference.

Cartier averaged 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and shot just over 60% from the field for the Chargers last season.

Looks like Greg Gard and the Badgers will head back to the drawing board, continuing their search as they look to fill their three available scholarships.

Wisconsin to get a visit from Wright State transfer Grant Basile

Wisconsin to get a visit from Wright State transfer Grant Basile. #Badgers

Earlier this week, Jon Rothstein reported that Wright State transfer Grant Basile would be taking visits to four programs before making a decision on where he’ll play next season.

Among the programs named were Wisconsin, Iowa State, Notre Dame, and Virginia Tech.

Basile is coming off an impressive junior season where he averaged 18.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.6 blocks per game en route to being named first-team All-Horizon League.

The 6-foot-9, 225-pound forward is a Pewaukee, Wisconsin native, that was recruited by Badgers assistant coach Sharif Chambliss while he was at Wright State.

Basile is a versatile big man that can run the floor, protect the rim, and step out and knock down the three.

It’s easy to see the potential fit with Wisconsin who has plenty of minutes available at forward following the departures of Chris Vogt and Ben Carlson.

The Wright State transfer has one year of eligibility remaining.
