Wisconsin at Butler odds, picks and predictions

The No. 22 Wisconsin Badgers (8-3) face the Butler Bulldogs (7-3) Saturday in the Indy Classic. Tip-off from Gainbridge Fieldhouse is set for 2:30 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Wisconsin vs. Butler odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Wisconsin continued its losing skid with an 86-80 battle against Illinois Tuesday as a 6.5-point underdog. It was the rebounding battle that proved to be fatal for the Badgers as they lost the battle on the glass 40-29. The Badgers have lost each of their last 3 games and have allowed over 85 points in back-to-back games.

Butler suffered a 71-68 loss against North Dakota State Tuesday while failing to cover as a 13.5-point favorite. The Bulldogs played a clean game against NDSU, turning the ball over just 4 times, but it was the 37.1% shooting from the field and 36.8% from deep that killed Butler. The Bulldogs have dropped back-to-back games.

Wisconsin at Butler picks and predictions

Prediction

Wisconsin 74, Butler 70

Moneyline

PASS.

I like the Badgers to pick up the win here as -225 favorites, but they are not worth the risk of betting on as such heavy favorites. Pass here and bet on the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

BET BUTLER +4.5 (-105).

Butler has covered the spread in 5 of its last 8 games while Wisconsin is only 1-3 ATS in its last 4 games. The Bulldogs also covered the spread in their last matchup against Wisconsin.

Butler’s defense, which allows just 66.1 points per game, will be what helps keep the Bulldogs in this game.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 147.5 (-105).

The Under has hit in each of Butler’s last 3 games and is 7-3 in tis last 10 games overall. The Under also hit in the last matchup between these squads.

With Butler’s defense and how Wisconsin has struggled offensively during this losing streak, the Under is a safe bet here.

This is a lean because the Over is 8-2 in Wisconsin’s last 10 games.

Wisconsin at Illinois odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Wisconsin at Illinois odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The No. 22 Wisconsin Badgers (8-2, 0-1 Big Ten) face the Illinois Fighting Illini (6-2, 0-1) Tuesday. Tip-off from State Farm Center in Champaign is set for 9 p.m. ET (Peacock). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Wisconsin vs. Illinois odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

The Badgers dropped their second straight game, falling to the No. 4 Marquette Golden Eagles 88-74. They couldn’t cover as 6.5-point road underdogs, and the Over (149.5) cashed. The Golden Eagles dominated inside, outscoring Wisconsin 44-28 in the paint. Despite the loss, G Max Klesmit put up a strong effort, leading the Badgers with 22 points.

Illinois dropped a tough one in its Big Ten opener Friday, losing at the Northwestern Wildcats 70-66 in overtime. The Illini came up short as 3-point road favorites and the Under (142) hit. Freshman G Kasparas Jakucionis was outstanding with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, a steal and a block. But 11 team turnovers proved too much to overcome in the end.

Wisconsin at Illinois picks and predictions

Prediction

Illinois 80, Wisconsin 70

Moneyline

PASS.

Illinois (-275) will win, but it won’t come easy. Expect the Fighting Illini to pull away in the second half and cover the spread. Instead of risking 2.75 units to profit just 1 on the moneyline, I’ll stick with betting on the spread for better value.

Against the spread

BET ILLINOIS -6.5 (-110).

At first glance, Illinois laying 6.5 points might seem high, but the numbers support the Illini. Both teams are coming off tough losses, with Wisconsin failing to cover in 3 straight games and in 4 of its last 6.

The Illini are 5-0 at home so far this season and have covered 3 of their last 4 games overall. They average an impressive 89.4 points per game (PPG) in Champaign, winning there by an average of 38.8 points.

The Illini have dominated this head-to-head series, beating and covering against Wisconsin in 8 straight matchups dating back to January 2020. While the Badgers are shooting 34.7 percent from deep, the Illini defense, which allows just 62.5 PPG and holds opponents to 25.1 percent from 3, will make things tough.

Look for the ILLINI -6.5 (-110) to bounce back strong with a decisive win Tuesday at home.

Over/Under

PASS.

This is a classic offense-vs.-defense showdown, making the total tough to call.

Illinois boasts a high-powered offense, averaging 86.3 PPG (17th nationally per NCAA.com), and a stifling defense, holding opponents to 62.5 PPG (21st). Wisconsin averages 82.0 PPG (59th) and yields 70.9 PPG (174th).

Wisconsin trends toward Overs, cashing in 8 of its 10 games, while Illinois has hit the Under in 6 of its last 8.

I’d lean toward the Under given the grind-it-out style of Big Ten matchups, but I don’t feel confident enough to lock it in.

Focusing on the spread seems like the best play in this one.

Wisconsin at Marquette odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Wisconsin at Marquette odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The No. 11 Wisconsin Badgers (8-1) visit the fourth-ranked Marquette Golden Eagles (8-1) Saturday afternoon. Tip-off from Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee is set for 1:30 p.m. ET (FOX). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Wisconsin vs. Marquette odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Wisconsin suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday, falling 67-64 to 23rd-ranked Michigan as a 3-point home favorite with the Under (152.5) hitting. The Badgers had no answer for 7-foot-1 C Vladislav Goldin, who scored 24 points, including 17 in the second half. Wisconsin led 64-61 with 2:37 to go, but Goldin scored the final 6 points of the game, including the go-ahead layup with 1:35 remaining Senior G John Tonje led Wisconsin with 18, while sophomore G John Blackwell added 16 in the defeat.

Marquette is also coming off its first loss, an 81-70 defeat as a 5.5-point road underdog vs. No. 5 Iowa State Wednesday as the Under (153) cashed. The Golden Eagles were outmatched in the paint, getting outscored 42-30. Freshman F Royce Parham scored a career-high 17 (points off the bench) in the loss.

Wisconsin at Marquette picks and predictions

Prediction

Marquette 74, Wisconsin 71

Moneyline

PASS.

This is shaping up to be a close battle between two well-coached teams, so the moneyline feels like a toss-up. Wisconsin (+220) getting 7½ points is too good to pass up in such an even matchup. I’ll take my wager to the spread.

Against the spread

BET WISCONSIN +7.5 (-115).

Wisconsin and Marquette are about as evenly matched as it gets. Both teams shoot the 3 well, defend the 3 well, and keep turnovers to a minimum, averaging fewer than 10 per game. The spread leans toward the Golden Eagles since they’re the home team, but with these schools just 80 miles apart, does home court really matter here?

Wisconsin has won and covered in its last 3 matchups against Marquette, so history is on the Badgers’ side. Both teams are coming off tough losses and have failed to cover in their last 2 games.

With all that in mind, 7½ points feels like too much in what should be a tight game. I’m rolling with the Badgers to cover as “road” underdogs in another close one.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 150.5 (-110).

Both Marquette and Wisconsin bring plenty of scoring power, each averaging 82.9 points per game, but their defenses are just as strong, holding opponents under 70. The Badgers allow 69.0 points per game, while the Golden Eagles yield 65.6 PPG.

The Under 5-3 in the Golden Eagles’ last 8 games, while the Badgers are on a 2-game Under run.

Coach Shaka Smart’s press-heavy Golden Eagles disrupts opposing offenses, ranking second in the country in steals with 11.4 per game — UTEP is first at 11.9, per NCAA. com.

In a gritty in-state showdown, the UNDER 150.5 (-110) looks like the smart play.

Michigan at Wisconsin odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Michigan at Wisconsin odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The No. 23 Michigan Wolverines (6-1) take on the No. 11 Wisconsin Badgers (8-0) Tuesday evening. Tip-off from Kohl Center is set for 9 p.m. ET. (Peacock) Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Michigan vs. Wisconsin odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

After a nail-biting 72-70 defeat to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in their second game of the season, the Wolverines have won 5 straight. The latest was a 78-53 backhand slap at the Xavier Muskateers Wednesday. C Danny Wolf led the charge with 20 points and 14 boards. That was the Yale transfer’s season high in both. New coach Dusty May has this team rolling early.

Wisconsin has opened the season 8-0, but it feels there’s a little left to be desired since they’re 4-3-1 ATS. They beat the Pitt Panthers as 2.5-point dogs and smoked the Arizona Wildcats as 4.5-point dogs, but they’re 0-3 ATS when favored by 10 or more. Their last game was a 74-53 laugher against Chicago State Cougars Saturday. G John Tonje led the team with 22 points.

Michigan at Wisconsin picks and predictions

Prediction

Wisconsin 74, Michigan 70

Moneyline

I think the Wolverines are a good early season story. They lose here. If they play their cards right, it can be a loss they gain wisdom in to use later in the season when stakes are higher.

Take WISCONSIN -155 at home.

BetMGM has a 20% odds boost token for NCAA games Tuesday. Using that brings this to -130.

Against the spread

I want ALTERNATE SPREAD MICHIGAN +4.5 (-135) here. The Wolverines are 5-2 ATS thus far, and these teams are not too far apart. Wisconsin is just at home for this one.

Over/Under

Michigan is 2-5 O/U, and Wisconsin is 7-1. The Badgers are tied for 30th in the country with 85.3 PPG. Michigan’s calling card is its defense, which is eighth in the nation in defensive rating. Michigan has cashed Unders in 3 straight. That’s where I’m looking.

Take the UNDER 150.5 (-110).

Arizona at Wisconsin odds, picks and predictions

The No. 8 Arizona Wildcats (2-0) take on the Wisconsin Badgers (3-0) Friday evening. Tip-off from the Kohl Center is set for 9 p.m. ET (Peacock). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Arizona vs. Wisconsin odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

The Cats beat Old Dominion so badly Saturday, the scheduling higher powers scorned them by making them wait 6 days to play again. Arizona beat ODU 102-44 as 33-point favorites. F Tobe Awaka led the team with 18 points and 15 boards.

Wisconsin had a more modest 87-56 victory over Appalachian State Sunday as 16-point favorites. F John Tonje had 17 points, 7 boards and 5 assists. The Badgers are 3-0 thus far but 1-1-1 ATS with all 3 games hitting the Over.

Arizona at Wisconsin picks and predictions

Prediction

Arizona 85, Wisconsin 78

Moneyline

These teams met 3 weeks shy of a year ago in Arizona with the Wildcats covering as 9.5-point favorites in a 98-73 victory. Arizona has 1 returning starter from that squad, but his name happens to be preseason All-American G Caleb Love. He had 20 points, 7 boards and 5 dimes in the affair. He hasn’t had to do much in his first 2 games with 17 and 10 points on 45.8% shooting.

This is the game I look for Love to turn it on. Take CALEB LOVE OVER 17.5 POINTS (-130).

Against the spread

This is the first road game for Arizona, and it will be tested. But Love has been tested aplenty last year with the Wildcats and before that at UNC. Arizona pulls away late. Take ARIZONA -3.5 (-110).

Over/Under

Arizona is 1-1 O/U thus far, and ironically enough, it was in the 102-44 laugher. It has dropped 93 and 102 points thus far, and Wisconsin is 3-0. I look for a fast-paced, offensive-driven game.

Take the OVER 151.5 (-110).

Oregon at Wisconsin picks and predictions

Prediction

Oregon 37, Wisconsin 17

Moneyline

Wisconsin’s line is less favorable than expected, meaning neither side presents enough value to warrant attention as a standalone wager.

PASS.

Against the spread

Oregon’s 5-5 ATS mark might prompt some doubters to take the points.

Wisconsin’s best bet to keep this game close is to lean on the run game with emerging tailback Tawee Walker (10 TDs, 4.8 yards per carry this year).

However, dealing with Gabriel and Oregon’s own dominant RB Jordan James (10 TDs, 5.7 yards per carry) likely will prove too tough a test for the Badgers.

The predicted score clears the spread. Follow that guidance.

BET OREGON -13.5 (-115).

Over/Under

Oregon’s scoring upside has been overvalued by the books most of this year and has resulted in a 4-6-0 record on the total. Wisconsin has surprised at 5-4.

Even with the previously over-optimistic lines, Oregon has scored at least 31 points in every win since Week 1, and they own the ninth-best scoring defense (16.0 PPG).

Even with these conflicting metrics, bettors should expect Oregon to run up the score to solidify its No. 1 standing and carry the total on its own.

BET OVER 51.5 (-110).

Penn State at Wisconsin odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Penn State at Wisconsin odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The No. 3 Penn State Nittany Lions (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) travel to take on the Wisconsin Badgers (5-2, 3-1) Saturday. Kickoff from Camp Randall Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (NBC). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Penn State vs. Wisconsin odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Penn State, who had a bye last week, escaped with a 33-30 OT victory over USC in its last outing. The Nittany Lions put up 518 total yards in the game and scored 27 2nd-half points to overcome a 20-6 deficit and 3 turnover outing vs. USC. Penn State is No. 3 in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

Wisconsin picked up a 23-3 win over the Northwestern Wildcats Saturday while covering as a 9.5-point favorite. Wisconsin’s 359 total yards, 19 first downs and just under 33 minutes of possession, all out-doing the Wildcats,  helped the Badgers overcome a 2-turnover game vs. Northwestern. The Badgers have won 3 straight and have not allowed more than 7 points in any of those 3 wins.

Penn State at Wisconsin picks and predictions

Prediction

Penn State 27, Wisconsin 14

Moneyline

PASS.

Penn State will pick up the win as a -250 favorite, but the Nittany Lions are not worth the risk of betting on as such heavy favorites. Bet on the spread and/or O/U instead.

Against the spread

BET PENN STATE -6.5 (-110).

Penn State will need a game to get its confidence up before going against the juggernaut Ohio State Buckeyes in its next outing, so expect the Nittany Lions to come out firing here. The Nittany Lions also can’t afford another close game vs. an underdog like they had vs. USC, giving Penn State even more motivation to pick up this win by a comfortable margin.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 47.5 (-110).

Both squads are very good defensively, with Penn State allowing only 262.5 yards per game and 14.5 points per game and Wisconsin allowing 295.7 yards and 17.6 points per game.

The Under has also hit in 3 of Penn State’s last 4 games.

This is a lean because both squads average over 29 points per game and because the Over is 4-1 in Wisconsin’s last 5.

Alex’s best bet: Penn State at Wisconsin prediction

SportsbookWire.com’s Alex White likes a side in Saturday’s Penn State at Wisconsin NCAA football game.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

SportsbookWire.com’s Alex White likes a side in a Saturday showdown in Madison when the Penn State Nittany Lions (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) visit the Wisconsin Badgers (4-2, 3-1). Kickoff for this conference matchup is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on NBC.

Penn State — No. 3 in the US LBM Coaches Poll — is favored by 6.5 points with the Over/Under line at 47.5, per BetMGM Sportsbook as of Friday, 4:11 p.m. ET.

Penn State leads the all-time series 11-9, including wins in the last 5 contests. The Nittany Lions and Badgers last met in 2021 with Penn State claiming a 16-10 victory as 5.5-point road underdogs. Penn State is 7-1 straight up and against the spread in the last 8 head-to-head meetings, including back-to-back wins at Camp Randall Stadium.

Analyzing Saturday’s Wisconsin at USC odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Wisconsin Badgers (2-1, 0-0 Big Ten) visit the USC Trojans (2-1, 0-1) Saturday. Kickoff from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Wisconsin vs. USC odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Wisconsin was blown out 42-10 by the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide Sept. 14, failing to cover as a 14-point home underdog. The Badgers were outgained 407-290 in total yards and gave up the ball twice while forcing 0 turnovers.

USC, which is No. 16 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, is coming off a 27-24 upset loss vs. the No. 18 Michigan Wolverines Sept. 21. The Trojans, who were ranked No. 12 prior to the loss, failed to cover as 4-point road favorites. Michigan’s key to success vs. USC was the rushing attack, as the Wolverines amassed a whopping 290 yards and 3 TDs on the ground.

Wisconsin at USC picks and predictions

Prediction

USC 35, Wisconsin 21

Moneyline

PASS.

USC will pick up the win here, but a -700 favorite is never worth the risk of betting on. Bet the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

BET WISCONSIN +15.5 (-105).

We know that USC struggles vs. the run, so this Wisconsin run game — which averages 172 yards per game and put up 149 rushing yards vs. Alabama — will give the Trojans problems.

This USC offense isn’t as explosive as what we’ve seen in the past 2 years, so the Trojans will struggle to win by more than 2 touchdowns, as their offense won’t be able to make up for their defensive lapses.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 51.5 (-105).

Wisconsin and USC both have bottom-7 defenses in the Big Ten in terms of yards allowed per game. Wisconsin also gives up 23 points on average, so this will be a game of offense where the Over will hit.

USC also averages 33 points per game, while Wisconsin averages 21.7, so based on averages alone, the Over should hit.

This is a lean because the Under is 2-1 for both squads this season and neither offense is extremely highly-powered, so this bet does come with a fair amount of risk.

Alabama at Wisconsin odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Alabama at Wisconsin odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Alabama Crimson Tide (2-0) travel to meet the Wisconsin Badgers (2-0) Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET (FOX). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Alabama vs. Wisconsin odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Crimson Tide received a bit of a scare last weekend against USF, although it might not appear so on the surface. Alabama won 42-16, but it led just 14-13 after 3 quarters, and 21-16 with less than 6 minutes to go. However, the Crimson Tide piled up 21 points in the final 5:50 to make things look more lopsided than they were.

Alabama’s defense actually allowed the Bulls to run for 206 yards, outrushing the Tide by 7 yards. The Crimson Tide also committed an uncharacteristic 13 penalties for 120 yards, while losing 3 fumbles.

Wisconsin has eased by both Western Michigan and FCS South Dakota by 14 points in each victory. The Badgers haven’t covered in either game, and the defense has yielded just 13.5 points per game (PPG) to help Wisconsin cash the Under in both outings.

Alabama is No. 4 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, conducted by the American Football Coaches Association and USA TODAY Sports

Alabama at Wisconsin picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 27, Wisconsin 13

Moneyline

There is no way you can risk 8 times your potential return on Alabama (-800) in this game. However, it’s hard to imagine Wisconsin (+550) pulling off the shocker, as the lumbering, defensive-minded Badgers do not appear to have the offense and speed to take down the speedy SEC visitors.

If Alabama is going to lose, it is because it beat itself, and there is no way it fumbles the ball away 3 times like it did last weekend.

PASS.

Against the spread

While WISCONSIN +16.5 (-110) has had some issues with consistency on offense, that defense has been nasty to date. Now, it will be interesting to see how it fares against a lightning fast Alabama -16.5 (-110) team, as opposed to FCS South Dakota and Western Michigan from the MAC.

We should see the Badgers hang around, though. Madtown is a tough place to play, and while previous iterations of Alabama might not be intimidated, we’re still learning about what to expect from Kalen DeBoer’s teams. Last week, the Tide was sloppy, and mistake-prone.

Over/Under

UNDER 49 (-110) is a strong play in this battle between the SEC and Big Ten.

Wisconsin’s lack of offense, and its powerful defense, is what is driving this under train. The venue also helps, while adding in the fact Alabama was its own worst enemy on offense for the first 3 1/2 quarters last week.

We’ll see if anything changes, but the body of work for both teams to date suggests going low.
