The Badgers have found success this season by moving the ball around and finding the open guy which has led them to rank 30th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.359) while North Texas ranks just 235th in that metric (0.948).

Where the true discrepancy lies is Wisconsin’s ability to create extra scoring chances. The Badgers have averaged 3.1 extra scoring chances per game (46th) this season and 2.7 extra chances per game during their 3 tournament games. Wisconsin is just 5-6 straight up on the road while Oregon is 15-5 straight up at home. The odds are justified here, but the Ducks (-190) are too pricy for an outright wager and should win by margin at a much better value. Focus on the spread and/or total instead.

Wisconsin is just 4-7 ATS on the road this season while Oregon is 11-8-1 ATS at home, so the trends lean to the Ducks here.

Oregon has also been playing better in the NIT, beating UCI by 26 points and UCF by 14 points as it covered both games. Wisconsin looked dominant beating Bradly by 21 points but looked less so with a push against Liberty.

Wisconsin is 0-9-2 ATS in its last 11 games following a SU victory according to covers.com, and that’s cause for concern. Oregon was also a far better team per Kenpom, sitting 34th in offensive efficiency and 53rd in defensive efficiency whereas Wisconsin was 131st and 27th respectively.

Wisconsin plays at one of the slowest paces in the entire nation, ranking 342nd in adjusted tempo per kenpom. Oregon sits 205th, so it won’t be speeding this game up much.

Both teams play decent defense which also will play a factor. Oregon has gone Under in 3 straight games and has held both NIT opponents to under 60. Wisconsin has gone Under in 5 of its last 9.

The Badgers are considered a bubble team, so they can ill afford a loss to a team like the lowly Buckeyes or the bubble will certainly burst. Wisconsin likely needs at least 2 or 3 wins in this tourney to get into a possible position for an at-large NCAA Tournament bid.

Wisconsin stubbed its toe down the stretch, losing a bubble battle at Michigan on Feb. 26 in OT (87-79). It had a chance at a Quad 1 win and resume builder in Madison against then-No. 5 Purdue on March 2, but the Badgers came up just short in a 63-61 setback as 3.5-point underdogs.

WISCONSIN (+110) is worth a look as a short ‘dog in this one. Ohio State has had an underwhelming campaign and the Badgers will be motivated by the need to pick up victories to have any shot at an at-large bid.

Look to WISCONSIN +2.5 (-120) getting a basket of insurance in a must-win game.

It’s rather surprising to see the Badgers as a short ‘dog in this battle, considering Wisconsin is squarely on the bubble and in need of several wins.

Ohio State really has nothing to play for, and while it has played better lately, it has been tremendously inconsistent all season. In addition, the Badgers won in Columbus in the only regular-season meeting, so what has changed since then? Plus, OSU is just 4-12 ATS in the past 16 games against teams with a winning overall record and 2-12 ATS in the past 14 after a loss.

Over/Under

OVER 130.5 (-115) might be the best wager on the board.

The Over has hit at a 3-1-2 clip in the past 6 games overall for the Buckeyes while going 7-3 in the past 10 against winning teams. The Over is 18-8 in the past 26 neutral site games, too.

The Under is 7-1 in the past 8 neutral site outings for the Badgers but the Over is 7-3 in the past 10 following a straight-up victory.

That single win came on the heels of losses at Northwestern (64-58, Feb. 12) and Maryland (68-54, Feb. 16).

All-American C Zach Edey, standing at 7’4″, is going to be counted on in order to get Purdue to the finish line and into the Big Ten Tournament on the right footing.

However, as with any line this high, I am not willing to make straight wager of any kind.

Against the spread

BET PURDUE -4.5 (-105).

Edey and Purdue will dominate in the paint and will get second-chance points to allow the Boilermakers to pull away just enough to cover this number.

Purdue is 4-1-1 ATS in its last 6 games following an ATS loss and it will be able to keep this game at an arm’s length.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 127.5 (-110).

Wisconsin, especially at home, likes to slow the pace of play. Purdue will play right into this ability and neither team will look to take quick shots.

The offensive efficiency will be high, but the possessions will be low.

Wisconsin has gone Under in 4 straight home games against a team with a winning road record and in 6 straight home games overall for the Badgers.

With both teams wanting to slow the game down and neither team being an offensive powerhouse, this is likely to be a game in the low 60s. I like the Under.

If you want to be safe, -120 is not a bad play for Iowa rather then taking the Hawkeyes ATS at -1.5 (-105). The juice is not outrageous and the 1.5 points of safety might be worth the extra .15.

IOWA -1.5 (-105).

While taking Iowa ML is okay, I like Iowa to cover the 1.5-point spread and this is where my money will go.

The Badgers have gone 1-7-1 ATS in its last 9 home games and are 1-8-1 ATS in its last 10 games overall against a team with a winning percentage above .600.

This line is small enough where the favorite is the way to go. If you trust Iowa to win, you should also trust them to cover this small number.

Over/Under

OVER 139.5 (-110).

Iowa will need to solve the Wisconsin defense. While they were able to do so in the 78-75 loss in December, being in Madison could be a different story. Coming off a game where the Hawkeyes only managed 60 at Northwestern, expect Iowa to do everything it can to score in this game.

Wisconsin has gone Over in 6 of its last 7 Wednesday games and Iowa has gone Over in 7 of 9 on Wednesday. This will be a narrow escape. But with the game coming down to the end and both teams fouling to extend the action, the game will just barely get Over.

Despite this, the Wildcats are still over .500 in conference and look to remain so against a Wisconsin team which, after a strong start has slid down the ranks in recent weeks.

A 65-60 win on Thursday against Ohio State as 7.5-point underdogs stopped the bleeding of a 3-game losing streak for the Badgers. They will now look to add to the misery of Northwestern by sending them to its own 3-game losing streak on Sunday.

Northwestern beat Wisconsin 66-63 at home on Jan. 23, covering as a 2.5-point favorites as the over 124.5 cashed.

Wisconsin has been terrible ATS in recent games. In its last 6 home games, the Badgers have failed to cover in any matchup. The Badgers are also 1-10 ATS in its last 11 games overall.

Northwestern may not win, but it will be able to keep this game close down the stretch and I could also see this game going to overtime.

Over/Under

OVER 125.5 (-110).

Northwestern has gone Over in 5 straight games against teams with winning home records and has also gone Over in 4 straight against teams with winning records overall. On top of this, in 5 straight road games, the Wildcats have gone Over the posted total.

While neither team is stellar on offense, 125.5 is extremely low and it gives value to taking the Over in Madison on Sunday.
