Wisconsin vs. Ohio State odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Big Ten Championship Game between the Wisconsin Badgers and Ohio State Buckeyes, with college football betting picks.

The Wisconsin Badgers (10-2) and Ohio State Buckeyes (12-0) meet in Saturday’s Big Ten Championship Game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis (8 p.m. ET). The Buckeyes head into the contest ranked No. 2 in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA Today Sports. Wisconsin is ranked 10th. We analyze the Wisconsin-Ohio State odds and betting lines, while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Wisconsin vs. Ohio State: Three things you need to know

  1. Ohio State and Wisconsin are meeting for the second time this season. OSU took down the Badgers 38-7 Oct. 26. The Buckeyes held UW to nine first downs and 191 total yards. RB Jonathan Taylor had just 52 rushing yards.
  2. The “human-analytics” of Ohio State’s previous two seasons – and surprise disappointments in losses to Iowa and Purdue – color every part of what has been a tremendous season under first-year head coach Ryan Day (named Big Ten Coach of the Year earlier this week). A resolved and focused OSU squad leads the nation in scoring (49.9 points per game) while allowing just 11.8 PPG (fourth).
  3. Wisconsin has averaged 6.5 yards per play this season (19th in FBS). But the Badgers will need to throw the ball and convert on third downs. That’s something UW has struggled to do against top-25 foes.

Prediction

Ohio State 45, Wisconsin 17

Moneyline (ML)

We’ll make a play on OHIO STATE -667 here. The implied win percentage with that figure is 87%. I’m calling for a profit cushion there of 6-7%.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Ohio State returns a profit of $1.50.

Against the Spread (ATS)

OHIO STATE (-15.5, -115) is a lean but the least productive of the three plays here, in my view.

Buckeyes QB Justin Fields makes for some risk after missing plays the last two games due to injury … not of OSU dropping the game, but perhaps he sits on a three-score lead and UW gets a late garbage-time score.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Under is 14-7 over the last 21 meetings between these two foes. This is not an autumnal gridiron slugfest in the elements, and the dome in Indy is a respite for Big Ten teams. The Over is 6-2 in this annual contest.

Even the prospect of a one-sided OSU victory is mitigated by the fact Ohio State can still score seven or eight times (and doing so can’t hurt the Buckeyes’ quest for a No. 1 seed). I liked the early-week number (54) a little more, but I’m still taking the OVER 56.5 (-106) here.

Wisconsin at Minnesota odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Wisconsin Badgers at Minnesota Golden Gophers sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks.

The Wisconsin Badgers (9-2, 6-2 Big Ten West) will do battle with the Minnesota Golden Gophers (10-1, 7-1 West) Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET. Not only with one of the best college football trophies (Paul Bunyan’s Axe) on the line, but this season’s game is even more meaningful with a trip to the Big Ten Championship Game up for grabs. We analyze the Wisconsin-Minnesota odds and betting lines, while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Wisconsin at Minnesota: Three things you need to know

1. The Badgers limp into this game with a 1-4 against the spread mark across the past five games, although they’re an impressive 15-6 ATS in the past 21 on the road and 8-3 ATS in the past 11 away games against a team with a winning home mark.

2. The Golden Gophers have covered seven of the past eight overall while going 4-0 ATS in their past four home outings and 8-1 ATS in the past nine conference tilts.

3. Wisconsin ranks 14th in the nation with 251.2 rushing yards per game while ranking seventh in total yards allowed (270.3), sixth in passing yards allowed (169.9) and 10th in rushing yards allowed (100.4). Its 14.4 PPG allowed ranks eighth.

Prediction

Ohio State 37, Michigan 27

Moneyline (ML)

WISCONSIN (-154) will go into the Twin Cities and grab the axe with a win. The Badgers have a strong running back with RB Jonathan Taylor, who will be able to control the game. Minnesota (+125) has a bevy of quality backs as well; however, the Gophers haven’t faced a suffocating defense like Wisconsin possesses.

New to sports betting? Every $1 wagered for Wisconsin to win outright will return a profit of $6.50.

Against the Spread (ATS)

WISCONSIN (-2.5, -128) has the road trends in its favor, as the visitor is 4-0-1 ATS in the past five meetings. Minnesota (+2.5, +105) is catching points at home, though, and the underdog is 8-3-1 ATS in the previous 12 in this series. I think Taylor is the difference in this one, and he rips off a special game for the Badgers.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 45.5 (-110) is usually the way to go here, hitting in 15 of the past 19 battles in this series. The Over is also 4-1 in Minny’s past five overall. For Wisconsin, the Under has hit in five of the past seven on the road, but the Over is 4-1 in the past five games in November.

Purdue at Wisconsin odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Purdue Boilermakers at Wisconsin Badgers betting odds and lines, with college football matchup analysis and picks.

The Purdue Boilermarkers (4-6, 3-4 Big Ten West) and Wisconsin Badgers (8-2, 5-2 West) square off at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisc. at 4:00 p.m. ET Saturday. We analyze the Purdue-Wisconsin odds and betting lines, while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Purdue at Wisconsin: Three things you need to know

1. Purdue limps into this one needing to win their final two regular-season games to attain bowl eligibility. Its passing game has been strong with 298.5 yards per game to rank 17th in the nation, but it’s 128th in rushing offense at just 77.1 yards per game.

2. Wisconsin RB Jonathan Taylor leads the Big Ten with 1,463 rushing yards and a total of 21 touchdowns.

3. The Badgers rank fourth in total yards allowed (259.7), third in the nation in passing yards allowed (154.3) and sixth in points allowed (13.4 PPG).

Purdue at Wisconsin: Odds, betting lines and picks

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 1:30 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Wisconsin 45, Purdue 17

Moneyline (ML)

You can’t bet Wisconsin (-2500) on the moneyline, as the investment is nowhere near the risk, and Purdue (+1030) doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in … well, you know.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Wisconsin to win outright would return a profit of $0.40.

Against the Spread (ATS)

WISCONSIN (-24.5, -106) is laying the points and will run roughshod over the leaky defense of Purdue (+24.5, -115). While Purdue has been able to stay in some games with a respectable pass offense, the Boilersmakers haven’t faced a stingy defense like Wisconsin.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 47.5 (-115) is a slam-dunk play. In fact, the Badgers could take care of the Over by themselves without much trouble. The Under is super low because of Wisconsin’s sturdy defense, but the rush attack should roll up huge numbers. If this game isn’t in the high 50’s it would be a surprise.

Wisconsin-Nebraska odds: Cornhuskers big underdogs at home

Previewing Saturday’s Wisconsin Badgers at Nebraska Cornhuskers college football matchup, with NCAA football betting odds, picks and best bets

The Wisconsin Badgers (7-2, 4-2 Big Ten West) and Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-5, 2-4) square off in Lincoln Saturday at noon p.m. ET, as the home side is looking to spring the upset and keep its faint postseason hopes alive.

We analyze the Wisconsin-Nebraska odds and betting lines, while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Wisconsin at Nebraska: Three things you need to know

1. After opening the season 5-1 against the spread, the Badgers are 0-3 ATS across the past three. The Badgers allowed just 29 total points over their first six, but have yielded 84 total points in the past three.

2. Badgers RB Jonathan Taylor continues to chug along, posting a Big Ten-best 1,259 rushing yards with 19 total touchdowns. He leads Ohio State’s J.K. Dobbins for the conference title by 59 yards and four touchdowns.

3. Despite allowing 84 total points over the past three, the Badgers are still third in the nation in total yards allowed (233.3) and passing yards allowed (147.0) per game. They’re also seventh in the country with just 12.6 PPG allowed.

Wisconsin at Nebraska: Odds, betting lines and picks

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Saturday at 2:15 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Wisconsin 37, Nebraska 13

Moneyline (ML)

The last time the Badgers (-910) faced off against the Cornhuskers (+445) they were 41-24 winners in Madison back on Oct. 6, 2018. You can expect similar results in this one, as the Huskers just seem to be stuck in neutral. While the Badgers ‘should’ win, remember the Illini game. They fell hard in Champaign when favored by 30.5 points, proving nothing is a guarantee. Avoid the ML when it is more than -160 or -170.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Wisconsin to win would return a profit of $1.10.

Against the Spread (ATS)

WISCONSIN (-14.5, -106) should come in focused and with a legit chance at a spot in the Big Ten title game should Minnesota slip up in its battle for Floyd of Rosedale at Iowa, as well as its battle Nov. 30 in the Twin Cities vs. these Badgers.

Nebraska (+14.5, -115) shouldn’t offer up much resistance here. While Wisconsin’s 2-5 ATS mark in the past seven road games and 1-4 ATS mark in the past five Big Ten tilts is worrisome, let me quell your concerns. The Huskers are 0-6 ATS in the past six league games and 0-5 ATS in the past five vs. winning sides.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total (50.5) is going to be a close shave, and I really have no lean one way or the other. Wisconsin can pile up the points, but its strength is on the ground which tends to lead to Under results. The Under is 5-1 in the Badgers past six on the road, but the Over is 13-5-1 in the Cornhuskers past 19 inside the Big Ten.
