B/R labels Malachi Corley as the perfect fit for Saints WR corps

The Saints should look to add a wide receiver at some point in the 2024 NFL draft. Is Malachi Corley the perfect fit with Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed?

Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed provide a solid foundation for the New Orleans Saints receiving corps, but confidence thins in that position group after that. A.T. Perry could carve out a bigger role in his second season. Derrik Klassen labels Western Kentucky’s Malachi Corley and his yards after catch as the perfect fit for New Orleans in the NFL draft.

Everyone loves a short, stocky receiver with a mean streak, hence everyone loves Malachi Corley. A sturdy 5’11” and 215 pounds, he is more running back than wide receiver. He’s not yet a polished, expansive route-runner, but my word can he bring the pain with the ball in his hands. He’s an explosive, violent ball-carrier with the natural vision and balance to squeeze out extra yards in any scenario. At the very least, he is going to be a nice screen and underneath YAC threat in the NFL.

An ability to run after the catch is an attribute the Saints should look to improve from last season, but it doesn’t appear to be the top priority in skill sets to add. The Saints are in the market for a receiver with size. The Saints just lost Michael Thomas, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see them add someone similar to replace him.

Corley’s ability with the ball in his hands could lead him to a Deebo Samuel-style role. The two are comparable in size, and the 49ers, ironically, were also listed as a perfect fit. It’s less about Corley’s talent and more about alignment with the Saints’ vision. They are in the market for a bigger receiver to operate in the middle of the field and catch 50-50 balls. That isn’t something he’s shown much of a knack for after going 4-17 on contested targets last season, but Corley does enough other things well to where he could still be on the team’s radar.

Seahawks hosting Western Kentucky WR prospect for official top-30 visit

Seahawks hosting Western Kentucky WR prospect for official top-30 visit

In the NFL, there is simply no such thing as having too many offensive weapons at your disposal. While the Seattle Seahawks certainly boast one of the most impressive wide receiving corps in the league, there is always room on the depth chart for one more playmaker.

One such prospect at the position is wide receiver Malachi Corley from Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers standout will be making the trip to the Pacific Northwest to meet with the Seahawks for an official Top 30 visit. From the looks of it, Corley will be keeping his travel agent’s plate full for the next few weeks.

Corley was a force of nature for Western Kentucky. Consistency has been key, as the last two years he has hauled in 11 touchdown receptions. His strongest season came in 2022 when he snagged 101 passes for 1,293 yards. But his senior season of 2023 was no slouch either, as he still caught 79 balls thrown his way for 984 yards.

It is hard to not get a little excited thinking about what it is he could do in Seattle’s offense, especially paired with DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Ohio State offensive player-by-player PFF grades for Western Kentucky game

Here’s how PFF graded all of the performances on the offensive side of the ball for Ohio State vs. Western Kentucky. #GoBucks

After a couple of underwhelming offensive performances to start the season, Ohio State football fans were thrilled with the unit’s performance on Saturday against Western Kentucky in the 63-10 win.

The Buckeyes’ offense came out on fire, putting up 42 first half points scoring touchdowns on six of their seven drives.

Kyle McCord was named the full-time starter moving forward for the season before this matchup and he proved that was the correct decision. He got the ball to his elite playmakers throwing for nearly all of his 318 yards and three touchdowns in the first half.

The performance comes at a good time as with the Buckeyes traveling to South Bend to take on Notre Dame next Saturday, it was integral to find a rhythm offensively going into that game and that’s exactly what they did.

We break down each offensive position group’s performance using Pro Football Focus grades for each player. Though not the ultimate measuring stick, PFF is a good tool because it grades every player on every play.

McDonald’s birthday star Grimace and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers’ mascot are now friends

Well, the Grimace and Big Red are friends now.

Mascot worlds collided this week as McDonald’s the Grimace and Western Kentucky’s Big Red met at the fast food restaurant.

Big Red seemingly stopped by a McDonald’s to celebrate the Grimace’s birthday, which has inspired a purple-looking milkshake and a series of hilariously grim TikToks.

Well, the two mascots apparently became fast friends and spent the day together playing in the McDonald’s play place, throwing around the football on Western Kentucky’s football field and hanging out on WKU’s campus.

Was this just a special day between two mascots, or will these two make this a regular hangout? The world may never know, but we’re guessing the latter.

Did you need a video of the Grimace and WKU’s Big Red hanging out in your life? Well, if you did, it’s what you got.

Are you just tired of hearing about the Grimace’s McDonald’s birthday? Well, you might need to hang tight, because as long as this promotion is going on, the celebration probably won’t stop anytime soon.

Chiefs UDFA Spotlight: Western Kentucky CB Kahlef Hailassie

Our UDFA Spotlight Series continues with a look at a cornerback who took a top-30 visit with the #Chiefs:

A three-star recruit out of Cosumnes Oaks High School in Elk Grove, California, Hailassie played receiver and had over a dozen offers, most in the Mountain West and PAC-12. He committed to Oregon and played two seasons with the Ducks, playing a little cornerback, but mostly on special teams.

Hailassie attempted to transfer to Weber State in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic put a damper on those plans. Hailassie ended up at Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas. He didn’t end up playing football that season, but kept up his academics and was able to transfer to Western Kentucky in 2021.
