War Ready falls to Herd That in second round of The Basketball Tournament

Wendell Green Jr. and company fell after leading the contest end-to-end until the late minutes of the third quarter

War Ready’s run at a TBT championship ended on Sunday afternoon, as the team full of Auburn alumni fell to the No. 1 seed in its region, Herd That 63-59.

Herd That, who is coming off of a semifinals appearance in last year’s event, is composed of mostly Marshall alumni. The contingent of former Thundering Herd have been a staple of “The Basketball Tournament” since  2018, although the team has only reached the quarterfinals twice. That didn’t stop Auburn’s Alumni from nearly taking down the experienced Herd.

[autotag]Wendell Green Jr.[/autotag] and company led the contest end-to-end until the late minutes of the third quarter. Even after surrendering the lead, the Tigers led Herd That 55-49 heading into the “Elam Ending”, which creates a winning target score of 8 points higher than the leading team’s current score.

Unfortunately for War Ready, the bunch ran out of steam in the games final minutes, resulting in yet another disappointing finish in the tournament. The 22-year-old Green led the way for the Tigers with 19 points, while forward Toarlyn Fitzpatrick was the only other War Ready player to contribute double figures. Fitzpatrick, who actually played his college basketball at South Florida, finished 1 rebound shy of a 13-point double-double.

As for Herd That, five players were able to contribute at least eight points. Star forward Jacorey Williams led the way with 13 on an impressive 6/9 from the field.

While another quick exit from War Ready at TBT is disheartening, head coach Marc Hughes has shown year after year he will do whatever it takes to get War Ready back in the fold next summer.

Everything the Tigers said after defeating the Tennessee Volunteers

Could this be a much-needed momentum swing for the Tigers?

Spirits are finally trending upward on the Plains.

It’s been a rough stretch of games for Auburn’s basketball team, but the Tigers did a little to make up for it after defeating the ranked Tennessee Volunteers 79-70 on Saturday. [autotag]Wendell Green Jr.[/autotag] particularly showed out, dropping 24 points in the victory, but the whole team’s strong defensive effort helped Auburn nab a crucial SEC victory heading into the upcoming SEC tournament.

[autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] and [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag] also spoke to the media after the win and talked about closing out the game, playing defense and being prepared for the upcoming postseason tournaments. Check out what the trio had to say below:

Everything the Tigers said after completing Ole Miss sweep

The team was in good spirits after a must-win matchup.

Auburn is back in the win column.

It was a close contest, but in the end, the Tigers defeated the Ole Miss Rebels for the second time this season, 78-74, to win a game after previously dropping three of their last four matchups. The win was an important one for a struggling Auburn team, and coach [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] made sure to note that in his opening statement. He also discussed the Rebels’ staunch defense across the game and the Tigers’ ability to close the game out when it mattered.

On the players’ side of things. [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] discussed his blocking spree that kept the game close during a big run from Ole Miss and guard [autotag]Wendell Green Jr.[/autotag] stressed the importance of getting a win at home.

Check out everything the trio said after the victory below:

Everything the Tigers said after their loss to Alabama

The trio that spoke after the game particularly emphasized the lack of stops at the end of the matchup.

It was a close matchup for most of Auburn’s matchup against its biggest rival. Unfortunately for head coach [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] and his squad, it wasn’t quite enough.

The Tigers dropped another SEC matchup on Saturday, this time in a 77-69 contest to the No. 5 Alabama Crimson Tide. The game was tied at halftime, but Alabama was able to pull away toward the end of the game and end the night eight points ahead. Despite the loss, [autotag]Wendell Green Jr.[/autotag] had a particularly impressive showing — he put up 24 points on the night and shot 44% from three.

Here is what he, Pearl and [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag] had to say in the aftermath of the game:

Tigers of the Game: Broome, Green earn honors for effort in tough loss Tennessee

In a low-scoring affair, Auburn’s Wendell Green Jr. and Johni Broome made the most noise.

Saturday’s game between No. 2 Tennessee and No. 23 Auburn did not end with an aesthetically-pleasing box score.

The Volunteers went 17-of-63 from the field in the game while Auburn made just 13-of-55 of their shots in Tennessee’s 46-43 win over Auburn at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville. Tennessee’s leading scorer, Josiah Jordan James, succeeded on just 5-of-12 shots while [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag], Auburn’s highest-scorer, went 5-of-13 from the field.

In a game that made offensive-minded fans cringe and fans of a more defensive-style game grin menacingly,  all aspects of Saturday’s game were considered in selecting Auburn’s best performers.

Following the game, the staff at Auburn Wire, as well as Auburn fans on Twitter, cast their vote for the game’s most valuable player. Who stood out the most? Here’s a look at which player Auburn Wire writers Taylor JonesJ.D. McCarthy, and River Wells, as well as Auburn fans, chose as their Tiger of the Game following Auburn’s loss to Tennessee.

Everything the Tigers said after their win over Mississippi State

Bruce Pearl didn’t have a lengthy opening statement after the win.

The Tigers won a close one at Neville Arena on Saturday over the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and sometimes, words don’t quite do a game justice.

Head coach [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] certainly seemed to feel that after the game, as he didn’t have an opening statement. Instead, he simply took questions, saying that the tight 69-63 contest between the two teams was hard to explain. There was still a bit to talk about, though, especially regarding playmakers in [autotag]Wendell Green Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag] — who both had words of their own after the SEC victory.

Here is everything Pearl, Green and Williams had to say after the Tigers’ victory over the Bulldogs:

Everything Bruce Pearl, Allen Flanigan and Wendell Green Jr. said after beating Arkansas

Bruce Pearl, and the game’s key stars, share their thoughts on Auburn’s 72-59 win over Arkansas on Saturday night.

It was an SEC victory to get back on track for the Auburn Tigers on Saturday.

After a tough loss to Georgia, Auburn picked up a definitive win against No. 12 Arkansas at home by a score of 72-59, which should serve as a recovery game after the team lost to unranked Georgia a few days prior. Auburn moves to 2-1 in SEC play thus far on the year.

The game saw head coach [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] use a different style of defense and players [autotag]Allen Flanigan[/autotag] and [autotag]Wendell Green[/autotag] Jr. have great games on the day, and all three talked about the victory and team contributions after the buzzer sounded.

Here is what the trio had to say:

Status of Auburn star guard remains uncertain one day before USC game

.@TheAuburnWire is staying on top of this story heading into Sunday’s game vs #USC.

We’re paying attention to the health status of Auburn guard Wendell Green Jr., a key piece of the Tiger roster heading into Sunday afternoon’s big basketball game against USC.

Our friends at The Auburn Wire are staying on top of this situation.

Here is what they’re reporting nearly 24 hours before tipoff (2:30 p.m. in Los Angeles) on Sunday afternoon:

“After suffering an ankle injury late in the second half of Auburn’s 72-64 win over Georgia State on Wednesday night, guard Wendell Green Jr.’s status for Sunday’s game at USC is unclear according to Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl,” Auburn Wire wrote.

“He will make the trip, and we’ll just evaluate him,” Pearl said on Thursday. “I think the issue there would be that flight going out there Friday if he was to practice and aggravate that thing. We really won’t know until probably Saturday or Sunday.”

If Green can’t play on Sunday, Auburn would likely ask freshman Tre Donaldson to play point guard.

Auburn star Wendell Green Jr. dealing with ankle injury ahead of USC tilt

#Auburn Tigers star Wendell Green Jr. has an ankle injury and might not play against USC on Sunday.

The USC Trojans are preparing for a massive game against the Auburn Tigers on Sunday afternoon in the Galen Center.

The Trojans defeated Long Beach State on Wednesday, and the Tigers beat Georgia State in each team’s final game before the showdown.

However, Bruce Pearl’s team just got some unfortunate news regarding its star player, Wendell Green Jr.

According to Adam Cole of Opelika-Auburn News, Green turned his ankle and might not be available for Sunday’s game. Green is the team’s leading scorer (13.8 PPG) and is one of three Auburn players averaging in double figures.

If Green is out, that would be a huge loss … and a much better chance for the Trojans to get the victory.

Freshman Tre Donaldson would seemingly get more run if Green can’t go, although he has played sparingly so far this season.

In the Georgia State game, Donaldson played a season-high 19 minutes and scored six points for Auburn.

The Trojans have played much better as of late and have won four straight, and Andy Enfield likes where the team is headed.

With or without Green, Auburn will be a tough matchup for the Trojans. If Green isn’t out, however, things look much better as USC hopes to get a top-25 victory under its belt before the Trojans head into Pac-12 play.

What Auburn basketball said after the team’s victory over Saint Louis

K.D. Johnson’s mentality and the team’s defensive prowess in the closing stages received particular praise.

The Tigers won their seventh game in a row on Sunday, and the basketball team had plenty to say about it.

Coach [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] opened up about the toughness of Saint Louis and improvements from both [autotag]Wendell Green Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]K.D. Johnson[/autotag]. Forward Johni Broome talked about the team’s defensive prowess in the closing stretch that helped Auburn win the matchup and Green talked about the team’s depth in the game’s late stages and the mentality that guys like Johnson can bring to the team.

Check out everything that Pearl, Broome and Green Jr. had to say after the game down below:
