Maurkice Pouncey’s dramatic weight loss has shocked the internet.
Many NFL offensive linemen go through a dramatic transformation after their careers are over. But perhaps none have been as dramatic as the weight loss by former Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey. Pouncey posted a pic of himself on his Instagram which was saved and reposted as people were shocked at just how smaller Pouncey is post-football.
If you just scroll through the comments of the tweet below, you get a sample of how shocked people are. Many tried to say it was because of the weight-loss drug Ozempic but if you followed Pouncey on social media, you know he lost his playing weight well before any of that hit the market.
WOW: Maurkice Pouncey has lost an insane amount of weight since retirement.

People fail to realize just how much work it takes to maintain the type of body weight NFL offensive linemen carry. This isn’t the case for all but in many cases, once they are no longer training as an NFL athlete and eating massive amounts of food to keep all that mass, their bodies are happy to let it all go.

You won’t believe how much weight Alabama DT Jaheim Oatis lost in the past year
Jaheim Oatis was a key piece of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s 2022 recruiting class and the investment is now beginning to pay its dividends. The former four-star defensive lineman prospect enrolled early with the Tide last spring, and while Oatis was an outstanding prospect, the knock on him was that he was going to have to shed some weight to see meaningful playing time in the SEC.
Oatis shared an update to his Twitter page this week that shows just how committed he has been to Nick Saban’s process so far. In just over a year in Tuscaloosa, Oatis has gone from 417 pounds to 316. A remarkable 101-pound transformation.
Don’t be surprised to see Oatis become a significant contributor this fall after a freshman All-SEC campaign. He is a player that all Tide fans should be incredibly excited about.
Started this journey just a bit over a year ago at 417lbs now 316lbs and I feel amazing đȘđżđȘđż!!!!! #RollTide

If the talented early enrollee continues to lose weight, he could become a major factor along the defensive line.
One of the biggest signees, both potentially and physically, for the Tide in the class of 2022 was Mississippi native Jaheim Oatis. The four-star defensive lineman joined the Tide as an early enrollee in January and Nick Saban and the coaching staff immediately got the mammoth freshman on a strict diet.
According to Oatis, the diet is working extremely well. Oatis took to Twitter late Friday night to send a special thank you to the nutritionist, Amy Ellis, for helping him lose a total of 46-pounds over the past three months.
Just wanna give my nutritionist Ms Amy Ellis a huge THANK YOU for helping me the last 3 months Iâm NOW 46lbs lighter and I'm not done yet đȘđŸđđ!!!! #RollTide #weightloss #BigJah

When Oatis arrived at Alabama he was most likely pushing the 400-pound mark. On Alabama’s official roster, Oatis is currently listed at 370-pounds.
If Oatis could get under 350, he would become a major problem for opposing offensive lineman.

Max Unger started every game he played in 10 years with the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks, and has dropped 60 pounds in retirement

It’s not easy to maintain the bodies NFL offensive linemen work with every day. Between constant workouts and diets that reel in 5,000 calories at a minimum, more and more players have started looking forward to retirement as a time to cut back and drop the excess muscle mass their jobs demand.
One example is longtime Cleveland Browns left tackle Joe Thomas, who transformed his body after retiring back in 2017. Prominent Baltimore Ravens guard Marshal Yanda lost 45 pounds in three months after hanging up his cleats earlier this offseason. And while he hasn’t documented his own weight loss journey on social media, retired New Orleans Saints center Max Unger has also worked his way down to 240 pounds from his 300-pound playing weight:
Former Saints pro bowl center Max Unger is meeting the NOLA media right now.
Says since he retired from the NFL after the NFC Championship game heâs lost 60 pounds in an effort to get in great shape.Hear from Max tonight on @wdsu at 6pm and 10pm. pic.twitter.com/ktBgbDB0NF

Unger spoke with the New Orleans media in a Monday teleconference call, where he talked about his adjustment to life after football. He was eager to get a more-manageable weight for the personal health benefits.
He also credited the player who replaced him, top 2019 draft pick Erik McCoy, and added that he’d chatted with Saints offensive line coach Dan Roushar a few times about the rookie’s progress. Whether or not McCoy holds onto the starting job with first-round prospect Cesar Ruiz pushing him, Unger’s confident that things are in good hands up front in New Orleans.
Acquired in a 2015 trade with the Seattle Seahawks, Unger started all 142 games he played professionally (including the playoffs; 67 of those games were with the Saints) before retiring in 2019, citing injuries that had worn down his body after a decade in the NFL. Having gone out on his own terms, he’s now happy to kick back and watch his former teams chase Super Bowl rings like any other fan.
