Detroit Lions Thursday Week 7 injury report: Frank Ragnow, Trey Flowers, Marvin Jones practice

Examining the Detroit Lions Thursday Week 7 injury report, including the return of Frank Ragnow, Trey Flowers, and Marvin Jones to practice.

On Wednesday, the Detroit Lions (2-3) saw four starters sit out, but on Thursday, three of them returned to the practice field, leaving Desmond Trufant the only remaining starter to not practice in Week 7.

Here’s a look at the Lions’ injury report, with the updated changes in injury status listed in bold.

Injured reserve/PUP list

No Practice

Player Injury Wednesday Thursday Friday Designation
Desmond Trufant Hamstring No Practice No Practice

Trufant has missed yet another practice, his fifth in a row spanning over the last two weeks, and it’s not looking good for him returning to face his old team — the Atlanta Falcons.

Limited Practice

Player Injury Wednesday Thursday Friday Designation
Frank Ragnow Groin No Practice Limited Practice
Trey Flowers Wrist No Practice Limited Practice
Marvin Jones Knee No Practice Limited Practice
Danny Amendola Foot Limited Practice Limited Practice

Ragnow, Flowers, and Jones all returned to practice on Thursday, suggesting Wednesday was somewhat of a rest day for veterans who have been dealing with an uncomfortable injury. All three managed to play a full allotment of snap last week and all appear to be on track to play this week.

Amendola gets another limited practice and things are also looking up for his availability in Week 7.

Full Practice

Player Injury Wednesday Thursday Friday Designation
Joe Dahl Groin Full Practice Full Practice

Dahl looks to be recovered from his groin injury but where he fits in along the offensive line is still to be determined. Will he return to his starting role at left guard? Will he come off the bench like last week? Will it matter what is technical role is if the guard rotation continues? We may not know these answers until Sunday.

Seahawks opposing quarterback profile: Cardinals’ QB Kyler Murray

A closer look at the Seattle Seahawks opposing quarterback matchup Week 7, Arizona Cardinals signal-caller, Kyler Murray.

The Seattle Seahawks are back in action this week, following a very successful bye week. After an early slate defined by more competitive, one-score games, it doesn’t get much easier for the Seahawks as they face the red-hot Arizona Cardinals and their dynamic quarterback in Kyler Murray.

Murray is one of the most exciting young quarterbacks in the game and provides considerable issues for opposing defenses. If looking at statistics alone, Murray is having an OK year. Last week against the Cowboys, he only completed 9 of 24 passes for 188 yards and two scores.

Although numbers never lie, they also don’t always tell the whole story. Going off the “eye test,” anyone who has seen the Cardinals play this year knows how much an impact Murray has on the field.

Murray’s mobility, strong arm, and background in baseball draw many comparisons to Seattle’s own Russell Wilson.

Last season, Murray played the Seahawks twice and went 1-1 against them. In the first meeting in Arizona, Murray completed 68% of his throws but had one interception and no touchdowns in a 27-10 loss. In the Week 16 rematch, Murray passed for 118 yards and had a lone score but left the game due to an injury as the Cardinals beat the Seahawks 27-13.

Now Murray is clearly growing into the role of a franchise-caliber quarterback, and will likely give the ailing Seahawks defense trouble –  especially with his new weapon, DeAndre Hopkins at wide receiver.

Lions Wire Fantasy Football Weekly: 2020 Week 7 preview

A deep look at this week’s fantasy option for the Lions and around the league

We are back to a regular week in the NFL after multiple occurrences of COVID-19 that juggled schedules, and that is music to the ears of fantasy football owners. The normal Thursday-Sunday-Monday games are a welcome sight to the unusual game schedule and reschedules that we have had the past couple of weeks. This week has a great slate of games.

Injuries again are a big concern for fantasy owners in Week 7 and managing injuries is always a key to fantasy football success. Players such as Zach Ertz (TE Eagles), Miles Sanders (RB Eagles), Curtis Samuel (WR Panthers), Raheem Mostert (RB 49ers), Baker Mayfield (QB Browns), and Jonnu Smith (TE Titans) are all dealing with ailments that might impact your lineup.

Let’s take a look at some important roster decisions, waiver wire options, and dive deeper into a big game for the Detroit Lions as they travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons on this week’s edition of the Fantasy Football Weekly.

Lions at Falcons fantasy focus

The Lions are coming off a win in Jacksonville and are looking to stack another win on top of that against the Falcons. Matt Ryan QB, Todd Gurley RB and Calvin Ridley WR

Detroit Lions Stacks:

It’s in a dome atmosphere, so expect both passing games to feast on the opposing defenses. Points will be scored in bunches during this game, and the Lions really need to try to stack another win this week against a struggling Falcons football team.

Bottom Line

When you are setting up your lineup this week, check to see if you can stack a few players from a good offense. Quarterback and wide receiver are often the best stacks to use, but a dynamic pass-catching running back along with an elite quarterback is an interesting stack to look for too.

Can the Lions stack another victory to get back to sea level this season? Matt Ryan and Matthew Stafford are friends, have had similar careers, and both will probably play well on Sunday. Look for a fun game in “Hotlanta” where the Lions hope to outscore the Falcons and have their defense hold on in the end.

The injuries this week are a major concern along with the bye weeks, so check your waiver wire and lineups leading up to the games this week. Tons of good matchups to enjoy this week. Sit back, relax, and enjoy some football this weekend. We are nearly at the halfway point, so every win counts. Good luck everyone and try your best to stack another win this week in fantasy football.

Pete Carroll comments on rival-fueled schedule ahead for Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll commented on this stretch of schedule, which has four division games in the next five weeks.

The Seattle Seahawks come off their bye week to face the Arizona Cardinals on the road in the first game of a stretch of schedule dominated by division rivals.

Divisional games are always unpredictable, but the Seahawks have not been dominant against their division in the past few years, and the NFC West is now widely considered the top division in the NFL.

“I think this is as tough as it gets,” head coach Pete Carroll told reporters. “I don’t know that anybody’s got to play a row of teams like this. A month from now, we’ll have a pretty good feel for how everything’s fit.”

Despite the expected challenges in the weeks ahead, Carroll professed that it is enticing to see the division competitive again and that adds motivation to play every game like the season is on the line.

“It’s exciting to see the division come back around like this,” Carroll explained. “We’ve seen it go kind of up and down over the years, and it always seems to keep coming back strong, and we’re strong again—everybody can play football. Injury factors have entered into some of the play of the teams, and as everybody kind of finds their way gets back to balance, it’s a really difficult schedule for us. So we’ll take them one week at a time, and we’re going to play every one of them like it’s the only game in the world and go for it, and that’s what we’re doing this week.”

It certainly is interesting to see the NFC West stacked again, but it only makes the Seahawks’ margin for error thinner, even at 5-0.

What should Dolphins fans root for in Week 7 slate of games?

What should Dolphins fans root for in Week 7 slate of games?

The Miami Dolphins are off this weekend, leaving Dolphins fans salivating and awaiting the debut of Tua Tagovailoa in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Rams. All good things to those who wait, Dolphins fans! But as we near the midway point of the season, there are still plenty of items of interest for Dolphins fans to key on this weekend, even without the Dolphins themselves playing. What should you be rooting for this weekend while the Dolphins are off? We’re glad you asked.

Here are three big storylines relevant to the Miami Dolphins.

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI – JANUARY 19: Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs reacts with teammates Eric Fisher #72 and Mitchell Schwartz #71 after a fourth quarter touchdown pass against the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium on January 19, 2020 in Kansas City, Missouri. A Chiefs win

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to square off against the Denver Broncos this weekend in an AFC West clash that really doesn’t offer any impact to Miami — right? Well, not necessarily. As Miami looks to jostle and position themselves among the AFC’s would-be wild card contenders, betting distance between themselves and Denver is imported. A head to head win for Miami when these two teams clash will be important — but a game of distance between them now plus an eventual head to head tiebreaker puts Miami in the driver’s seat to finish ahead of the Broncos. Denver currently sits at 2-3 and with a loss would fall a full game behind Miami in the standings, completing step one of Miami’s path to better the Broncos.

Packers’ first injury report of Week 7 is 13 players long

Five players missed practice, and another seven were limited during Wednesday’s practice.

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur said his team was a little banged up coming out of Sunday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Wednesday’s injury report, the first of Week 7, reflected his words.

The Packers listed 13 players on the injury report, including five players who didn’t practice in any capacity on Wednesday.

All five are regular starters or important contributors and could be in danger of missing Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. Left tackle David Bakhtiari (chest), running back Tyler Ervin (wrist), defensive lineman Tyler Lancaster (shoulder), safety Darnell Savage (quad) and tight end Robert Tonyan (ankle) all missed Wednesday’s practice. All but Ervin were injured during the 38-10 loss to the Buccaneers.

Bakhtiari, who hasn’t missed a start since 2017, would be the big loss if he can’t play Sunday. The Packers don’t have an obvious backup left tackle candidate, although veteran Rick Wagner played there in the second half on Sunday in Tampa Bay.

Savage is a starter at safety and, if healthy, would be a key part of containing the Texans’ downfield passing game. Lancaster, a run plugger, has been on the field for roughly 42 percent of the defense’s snap. Tonyan, the starting tight end, leads the team in touchdown catches.

Seven other players were limited. Linebacker Krys Barnes (shoulder/calf), linebacker Rashan Gary (ankle), cornerback Kevin King (quad), tight end Marcedes Lewis (knee), linebacker Preston Smith (shoulder), linebacker Za’Darius Smith (ankle) and receiver Equanimeous St. Brown (knee) were all less than full-go on Wednesday. Barnes and Preston Smith suffered new injuries against the Bucs.

King missed Sunday’s loss but could be on track to return against the Texans if he can get through the week of practices without a setback.

Romeo Crennel’s team was without three players at practice Wednesday. Another six were limited, but the Texans are mostly healthy entering Week 7.

The Packers will practice again Thursday and Friday, assign official injury designations on Friday afternoon and then fly out to Houston on Saturday. The two teams are scheduled for a noon CT kickoff from RNG Stadium in Houston.
