Former Michigan State tight end retires from football

A former Michigan State tight end is hanging up the cleats to focus on his health

Back in 2021, Michigan State football lost tight end Tommy Guajardo to the transfer portal. Since then, Guajardo has gone from Bowling Green to Wayne State, and now, Guajardo will hang up the cleats and retire from football to focus on his heatlh.

Guajardo announced the news on his X.com account, where he gave some insight into his decision. He explained that he has been battling an autoimmune disease this summer and will be retiring in order to focus on getting into remission.

As someone who also struggles with an autoimmune disease, my thoughts will be with Guajardo as he tries to conquer his illness.

Ohio State football adds a defensive backs graduate assistant from Michigan State

Another addition to the coaching staff. Will this one help? #GoBucks

It’s coach poaching season and [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] is taking a Michigan State coach and making him its own. In an announcement on Twitter, former Spartan defensive back graduate assistant [autotag]Gerren DuHart[/autotag] has joined the Buckeye staff in the same capacity.

DuHart is no stranger to Ohio. He played at [autotag]Wayne State[/autotag] before making the transition to coaching at his alma mater. He stayed there for two years coaching the defensive backs before making the move to East Lansing during the spring of 2021.

He left the Spartan program less than a week ago and it didn’t take long for Buckeye head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] to add him to the program.

The Buckeye secondary really struggled this past season, so having a fresh voice on the coaching staff hopefully will help.

Former Michigan football running back and coach finds a new head coaching job

Glad to see him back in Michigan!

Former Michigan football legend, Tyrone Wheatley, has found a new home coaching the game he loves.

On Thursday morning, Wayne State University announced it hired Wheatley as the school’s 20th head coach in program history.

The former Wolverine running back coached the Denver Broncos running back group this past season in the NFL. He went back to the NFL after a three-year stint as the head coach at Morgan State where he went 5-18.

“Throughout the interview process, (interim athletic director Erika) Mrs. Wallace showed that Wayne State was well prepared and very detailed in what they wanted in the football program and the direction of the athletic department,” Wheatley said in a released statement. “This made me really excited about the job. I am looking forward to coming home, as they always say there is no place like home. No matter where I have been, I’ve always tried to recruit the state of Michigan and the city of Detroit. I am pleased, honored, and blessed to be back home and to coach at Wayne State University.”

Wheatley has had coaching experience at Ohio Northern, Eastern Michigan, Syracuse, Buffalo Bills, Michigan (for two years), and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Now 51 years old, Wheatley starred at Michigan from 1991-1994. He was a three-time All-Big Ten award winner and was the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year in 1992.

Wheatley had a 10-year NFL career after becoming a first-round selection by the New York Giants in 1995. He played four years with the Giants and six years with the Oakland Raiders.
