WATCH: Mike Leach signs extension at Washington State

The Washington State head coach just signed a contract extension to keep him in Pullman, Wash. through the 2024 season.

Mike Leach is not leaving the Pacific Northwest for the SEC or any other football job this season, or for a while. The Washington State head coach just signed a contract extension to keep him in Pullman, Wash. through the 2024 season.

Leach is the first coach to lead the Cougars to five consecutive bowl games and has an overall record of 55-46 in eight seasons leading the program.

The new contract will pay Leach $4 million per season. The 58-year-old coach has been discussed in conversations around the Arkansas, Ole Miss and Missouri head coach openings.

Leach interviewed for the Tennessee opening ahead of the 2018 season but was not hired after negotiations fell apart when AD John Currie was fired and replaced by Philip Fulmer.

4 Apple Cup participants the Seahawks could target in the NFL draft

The Seattle Seahawks will certainly have scouts at the 2020 Apple Cup on Friday. Here are four players they could potentially draft.

The Apple Cup – the annual game between the University of Washington and Washington State University – is set to kick off at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll wouldn’t offer a prediction on the game itself, but he expects a good game between the two 6-5 teams.

“I wouldn’t know how to call that one,” Carroll said on Wednesday. “It’s going to be a really good game. I really don’t care who wins. I just hope it’s a really good game and they have a lot of fun.”

Recently, the Seahawks have shown a keen interest in drafting and signing local talent, which makes this game even more interesting for Seahawks fans – regardless of if they have a rooting interest in either squad.

Will Dissly and Ben Burr-Kirven are two recent draft picks out of the University of Washington, while recent players Darrell Daniels and Shalom Luani were both Washington State Cougars.

Although draft season is still a ways away, here is a look at four players who will play in the Apple Cup who could find their way into the blue and green next season.

Prediction

Washington State 35, Stanford 24

Moneyline (ML)

WASHINGTON STATE (-400) opens this game as a pretty significant home favorite over Stanford (+300) despite both teams having just four wins apiece on the season. However, with Washington State averaging close to 40 points per game this season, it’s tough to envision a scenario in which Stanford can ultimately win this game. While it could be close, expect the Cougars to ultimately take home the win at home.

Against the Spread (ATS)

WASHINGTON STATE (-10.5) is the play here. While Washington State has recently struggled against conference opponents, Stanford is struggling to find any consistency on offense as it has dealt with multiple injuries on that side of the ball. Expect this game to be close for a while, but for the Cougars to eventually cover the spread.

Over/Under (O/U)

The O/U is 63.5 (-106, –115), which would usually feel low considering a contest featuring a Mike Leach-led team. However, Stanford has one of the worst offenses in college football, averaging less than 22 points per game. Expect Washington State to do a lot of scoring, but for the UNDER to hit in this contest.
