Washington State at UCLA odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Washington State at UCLA odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Washington State Cougars (14-10, 7-6 Pac-12) and No. 14 UCLA Bruins (17-5, 9-4) clash in a Thursday night tussle in Los Angeles. Tip time in the Pac-12 affair at Pauley Pavilion is slated for 11 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Washington State vs. UCLA odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Washington State has lost back-to-back games by three points and three games in a row overall. The top defensive team in the Pac-12 (62.5 points allowed per game) had won five in a row before falling to Arizona, Arizona State and Oregon in succession. A below-average shooting team to begin with, the Cougars have struggled mightily in shooting the basketball of late. Wazzou owns a 31.7% mark from the floor over its last three games.

UCLA is coming off a loss to USC in which it experienced its own shooting woes. The Bruins shot 30.2% from the floor in falling to the Trojans, 67-64,  Saturday. A UCLA squad that went 10-1 across 11 games in December-January has already lost three games in February.

Washington State at UCLA odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

UCLA 72, Washington State 63

Money line

There’s little upside in risking more than five times your wager on UCLA (-540). PASS.

Against the spread

The underdog is 9-4 ATS in the last 13 WSU-UCLA series meetings.

UCLA is the better team, but Washington State is a bit of a late-season dark horse with the skill set it brings to the table. Wazzou’s ability to create turnovers and pull down offensive rebounds, when added to excellent shot defense, makes for a dangerous mix.

Give a slight nod to the COUGARS +9.5 (-110), but consider holding off on pulling the trigger. Early money has moved the line toward the Bruins; it’s worth waiting out a possible 10.5-point line.

Over/Under

Both teams play at a moderate-to-slow pace, and when they’ve faced like squads in the league, the Under has been prevailing at a solid clip. But that appears to have driven this figure too low.

UCLA is a much better distance-shooting squad in its home barn.

TAKE THE OVER 131.5 (-107).

Colorado at Washington State odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Colorado Buffaloes at Washington Cougars odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Colorado Buffaloes (13-7, 5-5 Pac-12) visit the Washington State Cougars (11-7, 4-3) Sunday at Beasley Coliseum in Pullman, Wash., for a 10 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we look at the Colorado vs. Washington State odds and lines and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Colorado split a pair of Pac-12 games on a trip to the Northwest during the week. The Buffaloes won at Oregon 82-78 Tuesday and lost at Washington 60-58 Thursday. Colorado is 1-3 over its last four games.

Washington State – which lost at Colorado 83-78 Jan. 6 – has won three of its last four, most recently defeating Utah 71-54 Wednesday. Due to a pair of recent postponements (at Oregon and Oregon State) because of COVID-19 protocols within WSU program, this will be Wazzou’s fourth consecutive home game. The Cougars are 8-5 straight up and 5-8 against the spread across 13 games in Pullman.

Colorado at Washington State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Colorado 68, Washington State 66

Money line

Both teams are solid on defense, but on offense, the visitors have a couple trump cards in this matchup. The Buffs rely more on their frontcourt and figure to get their points inside the arc. They also do well at getting to the free-throw line, where they’re shooting 74.3% for the season.

Tab COLORADO (+220) as a worthy plus-money play for closing out the week.

Against the spread

Wazzou is shooting under 40% from the field over its last 13 games. The Cougars are under 40% across their last half-dozen games, and they’ve shot just 38.0% over their last two.

WSU needs to grab offensive rebounds to excel, but that was a problem area the first time these teams met and Colorado is a very good defensive rebounding team.

BACK THE BUFFALOES +5.5 (-105).

Over/Under

Colorado’s pace numbers have been on the incline. Both teams have solid defensive numbers but against lesser offenses in general. Both play at moderate-pace numbers, and there is room for optimism on the OVER 132.5 (-107).

Arizona at Washington State odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Arizona Wildcats at Washington State Cougars odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Arizona Wildcats (1-9, 1-6 Pac-12) visit the Washington State Cougars (5-5, 4-3) Friday at Martin Stadium in Pullman, Wash. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Arizona vs. Washington State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Wildcats edged California 10-3 at home Nov. 6, and put up a strong fight against Utah in a 38-29 loss at home last Saturday, covering the spread in both games. In fact, Arizona has covered four a in row, and three of the past four games have been decided by one score. This is a team out of bowl consideration, but they’re not giving up.

The Cougars were on the short end of a 38-24 loss at Oregon last week. It’s their second loss in the past three games as they slipped to .500. Wazzu still needs one more win to become bowl eligible, a feat in a trying year which saw the head coach and some staff members fired for refusal of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Arizona at Washington State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Washington State 29, Arizona 21

Money line

Washington State (-700) will cost you seven times your potential return. That’s just too much risk for not enough reward.

The Cougars will win and become bowl eligible, but you can’t risk this much for such a meager profit, especially since the Wildcats have been a thorn in the side of their opponents lately.

PASS.

Against the spread

ARIZONA +14.5 (-110) is a strong play catching two-plus touchdowns on the road. Yes, the overall record is putrid, and the possibility of a bowl was lost back in October, but the Wildcats keep plugging away, trying to get better every week. They enter on a 4-0 ATS run, with three of those games decided by just one score.

Over/Under

The UNDER 52.5 (-110) is the lean, ever so slightly. You can look to the series trends, which show Over in each of the past five meetings, and five of the past six battles on the Palouse. But these programs are completely transformed from those days. Former head coach Mike Leach and his Air Raid offense are gone, and so is recent head coach Todd Rolovich, for that matter. Arizona has struggled to put points on the board this year, too.

The Wildcats have hit the Under in 11 of the past 16 as underdogs, and the Cougs have cashed the Under in six of the past eight overall, and five of the previous seven Pac-12 games. Those are way more pertinent trends.

Washington State at Oregon odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Washington State at Oregon odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Washington State Cougars (5-4, 4-2 Pac-12) visit the No. 6 Oregon Ducks (8-1, 5-1) Saturday at the Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Colorado vs. UCLA odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Cougars won at Arizona State by a 34-21 score as 16.5-point underdogs, covering for the sixth consecutive outing. Washington State inched within one game of a bowl spot, which is a miracle in this topsy-turvy season that saw Todd Rolovich dismissed as head coach due to his refusal to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Ducks won 26-16 at Washington last week to cover a seven-point number in its fourth straight win since an overtime loss at Stanford Oct. 2. Oregon is still just 2-5 ATS across the past seven outings overall.

Washington State at Oregon odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Oregon 33, Washington State 22

Money line

Oregon (-550) will win this game to keep its hopes alive at a CFP spot, but laying five-and-a-half times your potential return is just foolish.

PASS, and play the number instead.

Against the spread

WASHINGTON STATE +13.5 (-107) has had quite a resurgence lately, rallying around each other during this trying season. The Cougs have covered six in a row, with three of the past four coming in one-score games.

Oregon -13.5 (-115) is going to win, and might even get it done by double digits. But the Ducks have had struggles against the Cougars over the years, going just 1-10 ATS in the previous 11 meetings, while failing to cover each of the past five at home against Wazzu.

Over/Under

The UNDER 57.5 (-110) is the lean in this one, hitting in six of the past seven games overall for Washington State. The Under is also 4-1 in the past five games on the road for the Cougars.

The Under is 4-1 in the past five for Oregon against teams with a winning record. While the Over has cashed on a regular basis in this series. The teams have been trending to the Under, and we’ll get another Under result here.

BYU at Washington State odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s BYU Cougars at Washington State Cougars odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The BYU Cougars (5-2, Independent) travel to meet the Washington State Cougars (4-3, 3-2 Pac-12) Saturday at Martin Stadium in Pullman, Washington. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the BYU vs. Washington State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

BYU has tumbled two weeks in a row, falling at home to Boise State Oct. 9, and at Baylor last Saturday by a 38-24 score. The Cougars are allowing 32.0 PPG across the past two, as the defense has struggled a bit.

It’s been a tumultuous week for Washington State, as head coach Nick Rolovich was dismissed for failing to comply with a state COVID-19 vaccination mandate. Four assistant coaches were also dismissed, leaving the team in a bit of disarray.

BYU at Washington State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

BYU 31, Washington State 24

Money line

BYU (-200) catches Washington State (+160) in a tough spot. Wazzu had been playing exceptional football, rattling off three straight wins with four covers in a row.

But, with Rolovich and several other coaches gone, and others forced to wear several different hats on the fly, it’s going to be chaos on the Palouse.

Still, risky two times your potential return is a little too much. AVOID, and look to the spread.

Against the spread

BYU -4.5 (-105) is one of my favorite plays on the board. QB Jaren Hall is back for the visitors, and he should excel in this road game. I feel bad for the Washington State +4.5 (-115) players, as they deserve much better.

But, I feel good for myself, and bettors, as you have to take advantage of a favorable situation when it presents itself. This is certainly one of those times.

Over/Under

UNDER 56.5 (-110) is the lean here, but play it lightly. The Under is 4-1 in the past five for Washington State, while going 5-2 in seven games overall for BYU.

This won’t be confused with a defensive slog, but we also won’t see a lot of fireworks, either. And again, Washington State could be a little disjointed with all of the changes this week.

California at Washington odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s California at Washington odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The California Golden Bears (1-2, 0-0 Pac-12) and Washington Huskies (1-2, 0-0) open up their Pac-12 seasons Saturday at Husky Stadium in Seattle. Kickoff is set for 9:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the California at Washington odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Both teams are off to slow starts with losing records heading into this matchup. California’s only win came against Sacramento State (42-30 as a 23.5-point favorite), while Washington blew out Arkansas State 52-3 last week to avoid going 0-3.

California’s defense, which had been a staple under head coach Justin Wilcox, has allowed 448.3 yards per game (112th nationally) and most recently coughed up 467 yards to Sacramento State. The offense faces a Husky defense that has been stout through the air but gave up 343 rushing yards to Michigan in Week 2.

Washington has somewhat righted the ship with last week’s Arkansas State win, but it still has an embarrassing loss to FCS Montana (13-7) and blowout defeat to Michigan (31-10) fresh in bettor’s minds.

California at Washington odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Washington 24, California 20

Money line

Neither team has looked great so far, so it’s unlikely this one’s a blowout in either direction. In fact, Cal has won the last two games in this series by a combined total of three points.

A small-unit play on CALIFORNIA +260 makes sense in what should be yet another close game.

Against the spread

Washington at least enters this matchup with some positive momentum, but its collective body of work under head coach Jimmy Lake has been subpar since he took over in 2020 (2-5 ATS).

Despite Cal’s too-close-for-comfort win over Sacramento State last week, it has been competitive in its first two games against tougher competition (TCU, Nevada). Take CALIFORNIA +7.5 (-112) to cover here.

Stream college football games on ESPN+ by signing up here.

Over/Under

This is a low line, and for good reason. Washington has hit the Under in each of its first three games and the final scores in the last two games of this series (12-10 in 2018; 20-19 in 2019) haven’t sniffed Saturday’s line.

Take the UNDER 46.5 (-105).

Utah State at Washington State odds, expert picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Utah State at Washington State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Utah State Aggies and Washington State Cougars meet Saturday at Martin Stadium in Pullman, Wash. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Utah State vs. Washington State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Aggies tumbled to a 1-5 mark last season. Utah State made a change at the top, and head coach Blake Anderson comes over from Arkansas State to take the reins. QB Logan Bonner and WR Brandon Bowling follow Anderson from Jonesboro to Logan to give USU an immediate injection of talent.

The run-and-shoot is in effect in Pullman. After a strange 2020 campaign with little to no time to implement his system, head coach Nick Rolovich has had a full and more normal offseason to get things in place.

RB Max Borghi is a jack of all trades who should shine in Rolovich’s system, and they return top-notch WRs Renard Bell and Travell Harris. QBs Jayden de Laura and Tennessee transfer Jarrett Guarantano are likely to split work under center, at least early on.

Utah State at Washington State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Washington State 41, Utah State 31

Money line

Risking eight times your potential return on Washington State (-800) is not a recommended play. That’s just too much risk, especially for a team with some question marks under center.

AVOID.

Against the spread

UTAH STATE +17.5 (-107) should be much better this season, especially with a bona fide winner in Bonner under center. While he is new to Logan, he isn’t new to Anderson’s system. He’ll shine, regardless of the logo on the side of his helmet, due to the familiarity.

I don’t expect the Aggies to win this one outright, but I do think they’ll give Wazzu a scare. Rolovich and the Cougs are still trying to find their way after transitioning from Mike Leach and the “Air Raid” offense in 2019.

Over/Under

OVER 66.5 (-107) is the play here. Washington State has a multi-faceted back in Borghi who can do big things and several receivers who can house it every time they touch the ball. The Cougars will pass, pass and then pass more. Over bettors love teams addicted to the pass.

Utah State averaged just 15.5 points per game in 2020, but it will be much, much better with Bonner and Anderson at the helm. The Aggies are going to be much more exciting, and it will show immediately in this potential shootout.

Washington State at Utah: Three things to know

  1. The Cougars finally got back onto the field two weeks ago in a 38-13 loss at USC, their first game since Nov. 14 due to COVID-19 issues. After a win at Oregon State 38-28 in the opener, they’re 0-2 SU/ATS.
  2. The Utes fell behind early last week at ranked Colorado, but they overwhelmed the Buffaloes in the second half in snowy Boulder for an impressive 38-21 win to cover a three-point number. After opening 0-2 SU/1-1 ATS, the Utes have won back-to-back games. The Over has also cashed in the past two, averaging 34.0 PPG on offense
  3. The Cougars have cashed in four of the past five meetings in this series, with the Over hitting in five of the past seven. However, the Cougs are just 2-6 ATS across the past eight road games and 1-4 ATS in the previous five as a ‘dog.

Utah 34, Washington State 20

Money line (ML)

Utah (-375) will cost you nearly four times your potential return. While the Utes are playing with a lot of confidence right now, that’s too great of a risk. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

UTAH -10.5 (-110) has shown tremendous improvement since a 33-17 loss against USC in the opener, seeing an increase in points on offense in each of their previous three games, while allowing the same or fewer points as the previous time out. Unfortunately for the Utes, this is where it ends, as this is essentially their bowl game. They’ll go out on a high note after this abbreviated 2020 season.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 56.5 (-115) is the best play on the board in this one. Utah has seen the Under go 5-2-1 in its past eight at Rice-Eccles, and the Under is 5-1-1 in their past seven against a team with a losing overall mark, too.

This Washington State team has plenty of trends pointing to the Over, but a lot of those big numbers were during the Air Raid times of Mike Leach, and can mostly be ignored.

Washington State at USC: Three things to know

  1. Washington State’s matchup against Stanford was canceled last week due to COVID-19 concerns. The Cougars have thus far exhibited a balanced attack with QB Jayden de Laura tallying 548 yards and 4 touchdown passes and RB Deon McIntosh rushing for 239 yards.
  2. USC’s aerial assault has been sharp through three games. Southern Cal has averaged 323.3 yards per game while completing 70.7% of its passes. Sophomore QB Kedon Slovis has 5 touchdown passes against 2 interceptions.
  3. That Trojan passing game will be up against a Wazzu pass defense which has been torched for 641 yards in two games. The Cougars ranked 114th (FBS) against the pass in 2019.

Washington State at USC: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

USC 38, Washington State 31

Money line (ML)

PASS. Value odds on a Wazzu lean are well bracketed.

Against the spread (ATS)

The road team is 6-1 in the last seven games of this series, and the visiting team is a solid lean Sunday night. In a small sample, USC has an 11-yard spread in drive starts (offense vs. defense). Figure on some regression in that department and on the Cougars being able to stay within 7-11 points.

BACK WASHINGTON STATE +12.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

No lean either way. PASS.

  • Money line: Oregon -371 (bet $371 to win $100) | Washington State +290 (bet $100 to win $290)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Oregon -10.5 (-106) | Washington State +10.5 (-115)
  • Over/Under: 57.5 (O: -115 | U: -106)

Oregon at Washington State: Three things to know

  • Both teams started their seasons with straight-up and against-the-spread victories when the Pac-12 opened play a week ago. Oregon scored in every quarter and rushed for 296 yards in a 35-14 home win over Stanford. Washington State won on the road, defeating Oregon State 38-28. The Cougars also scored in every quarter; they piled up 229 yards on the ground.
  • Wazzou has played the Ducks as tough as anyone over recent years. The Cougars lost last year’s tussle 37-35 on the road, but they had won the previous four games in the series. Washington State carries a 10-game ATS win streak into Saturday’s contest; the Cougars’ average margin of cover over the last seven of those games is a whopping 16.1 points.
  • Young quarterbacks will be on display on both sides of this one. Last week, Oregon sophomore QB Tyler Shough completed 17 of 26 passes for 227 yards and a touchdown and rushed 11 times for 85 yards and a score. In Corvalis, freshman Jayden de Laura passed for two touchdowns and ran for a score in his college debut. De Laura went 18-for-33 for 227 yards through the air.

Oregon at Washington State: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Oregon 35, Washington State 24

Money line (ML)

The Cougars’ recent history in the series is intriguing, but the straight up odds are respectable: PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Oregon side has some steam on this line. The Ducks have much the better talent base in recruiting, and under head coach Mario Cristobal, UO has gone 5-2 ATS as a road favorite. THE CLEAR LEAN IS ON THE DUCKS -10.5 (-106), but the play would only have value at a tag of -9.5 or better.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Over is 12-5 in the last 17 meetings between the Ducks and Cougars. UO’s defense showed a few warts (6.4 yards per carry allowed was a big one) that were paved over by the final score in last week’s effort against Stanford. Weather calls for a temperature in the high 30s and a chance of rain, and that seems to have tamped down the number a bit too much. THERE IS VALUE ON THE OVER 57.5 (-115).
