Building a new Warriors depth chart for Steph Curry’s return to the lineup

When Stephen Curry returns to the Golden State Warriors, he will have a new cast of teammates to familiarize himself with.

Stephen Curry is on the cusp of making his long-awaited return to the Golden State Warriors from injury. When his name is listed in the Warriors starting lineup for the first time since late October, he will have a bevy of new teammates.

General manager Bob Myers moved six players at the NBA trade deadline and has been busy filling Golden State’s roster since. The Warriors are rotating through a mixture of rookies, two-way contracts and 10-day deals to fill out the back end of their rotation.

Curry’s final game before getting injured against the Suns, the Warriors started Draymond Green, Eric Paschall, Glenn Robinson III and D’Angelo Russell. Omari Spellman, Willie Cauley-Stein and Alec Burks all played double-digit minutes off the bench, with Marquese Chriss receiving a DNP coach’s decision.

Only seven players from the night of Curry’s injury are still in Golden State. When the two-time Most Valuable Player makes his anticipated return, he will have to familiarize himself with a new cast of teammates.

Here is a projected look at what Golden State’s depth chart could look like once Curry is healthy.

PGStephen Curry — Jordan Poole — Ky Bowman

SGDamion Lee — Jordan Poole — Mychal Mulder (10-day contract)

SFAndrew Wiggins — Eric Paschall — Juan Toscano-Anderson

PFDraymond Green — Eric Paschall — Alen Smailagic

CMarquese Chriss — Kevon Looney — Dragan Bender (10-day contract)

Curry will have the challenge of adapting to his surgically repaired hand while making new adjustments to his teammates. If the six-time All-Star returns on the reported target date of March 1 against the Washington Wizards, Curry will have 22 games remaining in the 2019-20 season to build chemistry within the new-look Warriors.

Klay Thompson stars in commercial based on his comeback from injury

Klay Thompson is featured in Kaiser Permanente’s “Rebound” commercial, based on his comeback from injury.

The Golden State Warriors are waiting for the nearing return of Stephen Curry after missing a majority of the 2019-20 season due to injury. However, once Curry returns, he will still be without his backcourt mate Klay Thompson.

Thompson has been ruled out for the season by the Warriors due to the knee injury he suffered against the Toronto Raptors in game six of the 2019 NBA Finals. The “Splash Brothers” reunion on the court will have to wait till next season.

Although Warriors fans won’t get to see Thompson lace-up in his No. 11 jersey anytime soon, they did get a glimpse into his injury rehab.

The five-time NBA All-Star is featured in Kaiser Permanente’s “Rebound” commercial, based on his comeback from injury.

Thompson narrates the commercial from start to finish:

You never plan for a setback. And it usually feels like the worst possible time. Then you realize, it’s motivation to come back even stronger.

In the final seconds of the commercial, the screen reads “documentary coming soon.” In the future, fans may get a more in-depth look into what Thompson went through during the knee rehab that sidelined him for the entire 2019-20 season.

Injury Report: Ky Bowman (ankle) will get MRI, won’t travel on trip to Phoenix

Warriors rookie Ky Bowman will get an MRI after injuring his ankle against the Los Angeles Lakers.

On the outside, it may look like the Golden State Warriors injury issues are coming to an end with the return of Stephen Curry nearing. However, a bevy of new injuries are piling up in Golden State.

Andrew Wiggins was a late scratch against the Los Angeles Lakers with upper back spasms, nixing one starter from Steve Kerr’s rotation before the game began.

Late into the Warriors 116-86 loss to the Lakers, Ky Bowman left the game with an apparent injury. Bowman’s Golden State teammates had to assist him off the court and into the locker room.

After the game, Kerr spoke to reporters about the severity of Bowman’s injury.

Via Warriors SoundCloud:

Ky rolled his ankle pretty well. It’s not going to be a day-to-day thing. He’s going to be out a little bit. He won’t go on the trip. I think he’ll get an MRI tomorrow.

Bowman has been a pleasant surprise for the Warriors, evolving from a two-way contract into a full-time player that has command of Kerr’s offense. In his rookie season, Bowman is averaging 7.3 points on 40.5 % shooting from the field while dishing 3.0 assists in 22.3 minutes per game.

Kerr confirmed the Boston College product would be out for at least Golden State’s road game against the Phoenix Suns. Without Bowman, the Warriors will feature a backcourt of Jordan Poole, Damion Lee and Mychal Mulder until Curry returns from his broken hand injury.

Draymond Green’s return to the Warriors after missing two games didn’t last long. Green was ejected with 5:45 remaining in the second quarter, ending his night against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Golden State forward was battling with Lakers center Dwight Howard which led into an argument between Green and referee Tyler Ford. The official tagged Green with a technical foul.

On the next possession, Green got tangled up with Howard after a hard screen and was quickly assessed his second technical foul, triggering an ejection from the game. Green stormed off the court towards the Golden State locker room visibly upset.
