2023 NFL draft: 3 offensive tackles for Chargers to watch at combine

Here are a few offensive tackles at the NFL Scouting Combine that the Los Angeles Chargers could target in the draft.

The on-field portion of the NFL Combine begins on Thursday, marking the start of the testing circuit that propels some prospects into the stratosphere while ruining the stock of others. To prepare, we at Chargers Wire are previewing players from every position.

Offensive tackle isn’t a position of need for Los Angeles…as of now. With Trey Pipkins set to become a free agent, the Chargers have a number of decisions to make about the future in front of Justin Herbert. Bringing Pipkins back would add continuity. Letting him walk and plugging in Jamaree Salyer would lighten the salary cap bill. Starting Salyer at guard, cutting Matt Feiler for the cap relief, and starting a rookie at right tackle would lighten it even further.

Warren McClendon’s NFL draft profile

Here’s a look at UGA OT Warren McClendon’s NFL draft profile ahead of the combine…

Georgia offensive tackle Warren McClendon is one of 13 Bulldogs getting ready for the 2023 NFL draft. The All-SEC tackle will be participating in this week’s NFL combine along with 11 other fellow teammates in Indianapolis.

McClendon was a three-year starter on Georgia’s offensive front that helped lead the Bulldogs to consecutive national titles.

NFL.com recently released McClendon’s detailed draft profile ahead of combine week.

Overview: A three-year starter and two-time national champion, McClendon has been a hardworking team leader at Georgia. His intangibles, however, are countered by a lack of ideal size, length and athleticism as either a tackle or a guard. McClendon needs to get stronger and will always have issues finding success too far away from home base, but he works to the whistle and has enough pass protection savvy for multi-positional consideration as a backup.

Strengths: Plays with consistent effort and toughness. Might offer three-position flexibility. High football IQ and knows where he needs to be. Squeezes into teammate’s hip on double teams.

Weaknesses: Can’t count on quickness or power as an advantage. Plays with tall pads and narrow base. Defenders able to slip away from sustain tries. Sluggish feet limit his overall range.

Photos: Georgia Bulldogs at the 2023 Senior Bowl

Four Georgia Bulldogs are participating in the 2023 Senior Bowl. What are some of the top photos from practice?

Four Georgia Bulldogs are participating in the 2023 Senior Bowl. Georgia is expected to have many more players selected in the 2023 NFL draft.

Georgia’s four seniors participating in the Senior Bowl are all back-to-back national champions. Running back Kenny McIntosh suffered a calf cramp early in the week, but bounced back to have a strong week of practice.

Defensive back Christopher Smith was physical in coverage and perhaps a little two grabby, but he showed versatility and does not normally line up as a cornerback. Offensive tackle Warren McClendon continues to primarily play right tackle and is wearing No. 77 to honor Devin Willock, who tragically passed away earlier this year.

Here’s a look at the top photos of Georgia Bulldogs during Senior Bowl practice:

Georgia has 13 players with a realistic shot of being drafted in the 2023 NFL draft. Most of these NFL draft prospects will go through various predraft workouts like the combine and pro day. However, the Senior Bowl is widely considered one of the best NFL draft scouting events thanks to the transparency it has.

Senior Bowl: Georgia OT Warren McClendon wears late teammate Devin Willock’s No. 77

Warren McClendon reps Devin Willock’s No. 77 at Senior Bowl practice…

Georgia offensive tackle Warren McClendon is wearing late teammate Devin Willock’s No. 77 as he participates in the Reese’s Senior Bowl this week.

The tribute comes after a single vehicle crash took the lives of Willock and staff member Chandler LeCroy early in the early morning of Jan. 15.

McClendon was also in the car at the time of the crash and sustained minor injuries.

McClendon will represent Willock by wearing his number in practices this week and the all-star game between the National and American squads on Saturday.

The game will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. ET in Mobile, Ala., and will be televised on the NFL Network.

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman sends love and condolences to Air Force and Georgia

It’s been a tough last few days for the college football committee

Over the last few days, college football has lost some players and a staff member with [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] being well aware of the losses.

[autotag]Air Force[/autotag] offensive lineman [autotag]Hunter Brown[/autotag] passed away after suffering a medical emergency going to a class. [autotag]Georgia[/autotag] offensive lineman [autotag]Devin Willock[/autotag] and support staff member [autotag]Chandler LeCroy[/autotag] were involved in a single-vehicle car crash that saw both of them pass away. Offensive tackle [autotag]Warren McClendon[/autotag] was also in the car but suffered just a cut on his head that required stitches.

It’s been a difficult couple of days across the nation and Freeman made a statement about both programs, sending his love and condolences.

Being part of a collegiate football program is like being in a fraternity, even if you are on a different campus, there is still a connection. It’s great to see Freeman take a leadership role and make a statement. He is showing the country why he was the correct choice to lead the Irish program, on and off the field.
