Watch: Tua Tagovailova works out ahead of NFL Draft

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen posted seven videos of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa working out in a Pro Day-style format ahead of the NFL Draft.

It’s been quite an interesting off-season for Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Since dislocating his hip last season, Tagovailoa has undergone surgery to repair his hip — among other ailments — and his health has been a constant topic of discussion leading up to the NFL Draft.

Through nearly the entire recovery process reports on Tagovailoa have been overwhelmingly positive, with countless updates reporting he was on track to make a full recovery.

In fact, the only negative report about Tagovailoa’s progress came to the surface yesterday when the Athletic’s Michael Lombardi reported on this podcast — the GM Shuffle — that two teams have “failed” him for medicals. If you’re interested in hearing/reading quotes from Lombardi, Pride of Detroit’s Jeremy Reisman did a nice job pulling the important quotes from the podcast.

Meanwhile, Tagovailoa’s agent Leigh Steinberg has said the “health concerns are overblown” (no surprise), while Tagovailoa himself has reported he feels “100-percent” and was planning on showing his skills in a Pro Day-style format ahead of the NFL Draft.

Those plans can to fruition and ESPN’s Chris Mortensen posted seven videos of Tagovailoa’s workout, which you can see below:

Former Detroit Lions quarterback turned ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky weighed in on Tagovailoa’s tape:

Medical reports will still likely be the final determining factor in deciding where Tagovailoa gets selected in the NFL Draft, but every little bit of information he can put out will help his chances of that being early.

The Lions are surely hoping Tagovailoa is drawing enough interest, because if he does, it only increases the value of their No. 3 overall pick.

Drew Brees’ son Callen debuts his Steph Curry impression in a bid for a jersey

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees let his son Callen take over his Instagram account in a bid to earn a Steph Curry jersey.

[jwplayer 7DC30v1P-ThvAeFxT]

With plenty of free time on his hands at this stage in the coronavirus-adjusted offseason, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has spent more time shooting hoops with sons. While they’re all ostensibly fans of the hometown New Orleans Pelicans, Brees’ son Callen gravitates closer to Steph Curry — so much so that Callen has developed a smooth imitation of Curry’s signature “shoulder shimmy” celebration after making a big shot.

So Callen commandeered his dad’s Instagram account Tuesday evening to show off his impersonation of the Golden State Warriors superstar. But it came with a catch: a request for one of Curry’s jerseys.

Sure, Brees probably could have pulled some strings and gotten a jersey for his son himself. But this was also a great opportunity for the kid’s hard work to maybe pay off. And with the platform that Brees enjoys on Instagram (including 1.6 million followers), odds are in his favor that they’ll pull it off.

Watch: Hayden Hurst talks with Jim Rome about trade to Falcons

Hurst joined The Jim Rome Show to discuss being traded to the Falcons and what he feels he can bring to an offense that features Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley

The Atlanta Falcons struck quickly after Austin Hooper signed with the Browns, sending a second-round pick to the Ravens for tight end Hayden Hurst.

A first-round pick back in 2018, Hurst wasn’t a focal point in Baltimore’s potent offense last season, but was one of three effective tight ends. Playing in Atlanta, he’s sure to be a bigger part of the offense in Dirk Koetter’s scheme.

Hurst joined The Jim Rome Show to discuss being traded to the Falcons and what he feels he can bring to an offense that already features Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley. Check out the video below:

Falcons DE Dante Fowler talks free agency, expectations for 2020

The Atlanta Falcons desperately needed to make a splash this offseason and after cutting two of last season’s starters to create cap space, the team signed defensive end Dante Fowler.

The Atlanta Falcons desperately needed to make a splash this offseason and after cutting two of last season’s starters to create cap space, the team signed defensive end Dante Fowler to a three-year, $48 million contract.

Fowler, the former No. 3 pick of the 2015 draft, is coming off of the best season of his career. He racked up 11.5 sacks and 58 tackles (40 solo) for the Los Angeles Rams in 2019.

At just 25 years old, Fowler is only entering his physical prime and could be the kind of impact player that Atlanta needs to get back to the playoffs in 2020. Falcons reporter Kelsey Conway caught up with Fowler to discuss the free agency process and his expectations for upcoming season.

Watch the full interview below, as shared by the team’s Twitter account:

Gurley says Julio Jones showed up at his house right after being cut

The Atlanta Falcons acted fast once former Rams running back Todd Gurley was released, signing him to a one-year, $6 million contract the very next day

The Atlanta Falcons acted fast once former Rams running back Todd Gurley was released, signing him to a one-year, $6 million contract the very next day.

It seemed like a logical fit with the Falcons having just cut Devonta Freeman and Gurley playing for the University of Georgia in college, but how exactly did the move happen so fast?

During an appearance on Chris Long’s Green Light podcast, Gurley explained that Julio Jones and DeAndre Hopkins showed up at his house shortly after his release to check in on him.

Jones apparently convinced the All-Pro running back to sign with Atlanta. Watch Gurley explain what happened on Long’s podcast below:

Gurley also talked about possibly changing his number to No. 21 or 23 since Falcons running back Qadree Ollison wore the No. 30 last season.

Regardless of what number he wears next season, fans in Atlanta can thank No. 11 for helping Gurley wind up in a Falcons jersey.

[jwplayer QfjzedKi-ThvAeFxT]

Players and coaches from the New Orleans Saints partnered with their colleagues from around the NFL’s orbit to produce a helpful public service announcement in reaction to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Familiar faces in New Orleans like Sean Payton, Drew Brees, Cameron Jordan, Thomas Morstead, and Alvin Kamara each spoke out in the new video about the importance of staying home to prevent further infections in your community.

Brees has taken further action, pledging $5 million to assist with Louisiana relief efforts like investing in hospitals and delivering free meals to the needy. Saints team owner Gayle Benson has also stepped up with $1 million in assistance to workers in the New Orleans tourism industry, which has been hit hard by the effects of the pandemic. Payton has had a personal experience with the coronavirus, testing positive for it and using his platform to raise awareness of how people can respond.

Be sure to take their advice. Our team here at Saints Wire wishes you and your loved ones well in these difficult times. Stay safe.
