Report: EA Sports will allow FBS players to opt in for 2024 video game

Players to earn NIL money for the next college football video game.

College football fans have waited for years to see the return of the very popular EA Sports video game to make a return. It has been almost 10 years since the last one was made.

The franchise is set to return in the summer of 2024 and on Wednesday, ESPN reported that EA Sports will allow players to opt in to be included in the video game. Players who are in the game will be compensated for their likeness.

The partnership will include the chance for all eligible FBS players to opt in to have their likenesses in EA Sports College Football, the representative said. Those players will receive compensation for being placed in the game.

Details — such as how much an athlete will receive and the structure of payments — are still being finalized, but the EA Sports representative said the goal is to be “as inclusive and equitable as possible.” On the OneTeam website, the company stated that if the influence of individual sales couldn’t be figured out — including for video game licensing — then “revenue will be divided equally among the athletes included in each licensing program.”

The report goes on to state that a player who doesn’t want to be included in the game will have a generic avatar and player in their place. Given the popularity of the franchise and video games among athletes, it is hard to imagine that many wouldn’t want to be in the game.

Broncos safety P.J. Locke asks ‘Madden’ to boost his rating after clinching win

Give the man some respect, @EAMaddenNFL!

Madden and NBA 2K are the premier sports video game franchises for gamers, and the professional athletes in them take the game — and their ratings — seriously.

P.J Locke has begun his Madden rating campaign after sealing the Denver Broncos’ victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3. Locke forced a fumble to help the Broncos clinch a win and move to 2-1.

Now the defensive back is asking EA Sports to reward his big play with a boost in the NFL’s popular video game.

While Madden may or may not reward Locke with a Madden boost, he can be proud of having, so far, one of the stingiest defenses in the league.

The Broncos’ defense has allowed 36 points for a 12-point-a-game average through three games. Denver’s offense found a spark toward the end of the 49ers game, but so far, the defense is the crown jewel unit of the team, while the highly-hyped offense is still trying to find its footing.

As we wait for Madden‘s decision on Locke, tune in this Sunday as the Broncos will gear up to play the division rival Las Vegas Raiders.

Every former Notre Dame player’s Madden ’23 rating

Who should have the biggest beef about their rating?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for decades you’re aware of the Madden video game franchise that has been a staple for football fans and gamers alike for over 30 years.  With John Madden passing away earlier this year even a little more attention has been paid to the game this summer.

Anymore it always generates some news when the ratings for each player are released for the newest edition of the game.  That is exactly what’s available now as the player and team ratings for Madden ’23 are open for your viewing.

How did every Notre Dame player in the game get rated?

ESPN lists 49 former Notre Dame players currently on NFL rosters.  Of those, 41 have given ratings for the latest game.  Here are ratings for those 41 players sorted from lowest to highest.

As of posting, Kyle Rudolph was not included. Rudolph signed with the Bucs just days before this post was originally released.

10 Sooners we would have loved to use but couldn’t during the EA Sports NCAA Football hiatus

With EA Sports planning a release of NCAA Football for 2023, we take a look at the 10 Oklahoma Sooners that would have been most fun to use during its hiatus.

One of the most popular franchises of all-time looks to be making a return to your video game consoles in 2023; EA Sports NCAA Football.

The game that’s been on the proverbial shelf since its last release in 2013 is making a return in the new era of college football that provides opportunities for players to earn through name, image, and likeness.

While they haven’t come out with a new title in nearly a decade, NCAA Football 2014 is still incredibly popular among sports gamers who have been able to continue playing online through Playstation consoles.

Rumor has it that nearly 120 teams are currently on board and EA Sports is working with them to get authentic sounds and crowd noises for its gameplay.

As NIL has come to the forefront of college athletics, gamers will likely get a chance to play with some of their favorite players moving forward as EA will attempt to create an even more realistic gaming experience. In years past, the company went with computer-generated names or simply numbers to identify players, but now that athletes can be compensated for their likeness, you’ll more than likely get to take control of Oklahoma’s offense with Nick Evers or Jackson Arnold at the helm when the game releases next year.

With the game’s absence, we missed out on opportunities to use some of our favorite Sooners. Let’s take a look at 10 players that would have been the most fun to use that didn’t get to grace EA Sports’ NCAA Football.

Who should be on the next college football video game cover?

EA Sports has already stated they won’t be releasing a game this year, but if they were, who would be most deserving of the cover?

[jwplayer 1dESxiLY]

EA Sports restarting the college football video game series has been in the news a bunch recently.

First, it was the news that it was coming out that news brought great joy for college football fans that haven’t had a new release of their video game since 2013.

Then it was Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick announcing that the Fighting Irish wouldn’t be participating in the game until players were to be paid for their likenesses.

All the talk of the game got me wondering who should be on the cover of the next release.

EA Sports has already stated they won’t be releasing a game this year, but if they were, who would be most deserving of the cover?

Here are who the five best candidates would have been:

Rockets star James Harden ranks third in NBA 2K21 player ratings

Among top players whose ratings have been released, Harden edges out Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard, and Luka Doncic.

The next-gen edition of NBA 2K21 on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X will be released in early November, and 2K is now rolling out updated player ratings for the upcoming 2020-21 NBA season.

Due to COVID-19’s disruption of the usual NBA calendar, next season isn’t likely to begin on the court until at least late December. Nonetheless, that delay isn’t expected to affect the video game industry.

While NBA 2K21 has not released entire rosters just yet, ratings for many of the league’s elite players have leaked this week. Among those, Houston Rockets star James Harden (96) currently has the game’s No. 3 overall rating. Only LeBron James (98) of the Los Angeles Lakers and Giannis Antetokounmpo (97) of the Milwaukee Bucks are higher.

Players are rated across numerous categories on a 1 to 100 scale. Recent All-Stars who are just behind Harden include Golden State’s Steph Curry (95); Brooklyn’s Kevin Durant (95); Portland’s Damian Lillard (95); Dallas’ Luka Doncic (94); and Miami’s Jimmy Butler (93).

Ratings for the rest of Houston’s current roster have yet to be released.

Harden averaged 34.3 points, 7.5 assists, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game last season, and he joined Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson as the only players to ever lead the NBA in points and steals in the same season. He shot 44.4% from the field and 35.5% on 3-pointers.

With that scoring average, Harden became just the fourth player since the NBA/ABA merger in 1976 to win a scoring title in three straight years, joining Durant, Michael Jordan, and George Gervin.

Harden also won the NBA’s scoring title in the 2018-19 season, when he averaged 36.1 points per game, and in the 2017-18 season (30.4 points). Harden is now just the third player in league history to average more than 34 points per game in multiple seasons, joining a pair of Basketball Hall of Famers in Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain.

Harden is the only NBA player to have been an MVP finalist and an All-NBA First Team member in each of the last four seasons. He won the league’s MVP award in 2018.

LEAK: Broncos’ best players in ‘Madden NFL 21’

Here are the Broncos’ best players in ‘Madden NFL 21.’

EA Sports is rolling out ratings for Madden NFL 21 this week and a website called “Madden School” has leaked some ratings ahead of schedule. These rumored ratings have not been confirmed so take them with a grain of salt.

For the Denver Broncos, star outside linebacker Von Miller is still the team’s highest-rated player at 97 overall. Miller is no longer a member of the “99 Club” but he is still one of the best pass rushers in the video game.

Broncos safety Justin Simmons is the team’s second-best player, rated 90 overall. Fellow safety Kareem Jackson is rated 87 overall.

Here’s a look at the team’s top-10 players in Madden 21, courtesy of Madden School:

  • Von Miller: 97
  • Justin Simmons: 90
  • Kareem Jackon: 87
  • Phillip Lindsay: 85
  • Melvin Gordon III: 84
  • Jurrell Casey: 84
  • A.J. Bouye: 84
  • Courtland Sutton: 84
  • Bradley Chubb: 81
  • Bryce Callahan: 80

It’s interesting that running back Phillip Lindsay is rated higher than Melvin Gordon, who is expected to start this season. Gordon was clearly not happy with his rating in Madden. Last year, Gordon was one of the top running backs in the game — now he’s not even the top RB on his own team.

Complete Madden NFL 21 ratings will be revealed later this week.

Broncos RB Melvin Gordon not happy with his ‘Madden 21’ rating

Broncos running back Melvin Gordon is not pleased with rating in ‘Madden NFL 21.’

EA Sports is rolling out ratings for Madden NFL 21 this week.

After announcing the top 10-rated quarterbacks on Monday, Madden will probably be announcing the top 10-rated running backs on Tuesday. It appears that Broncos running back Melvin Gordon got an early look at the rankings.

“Not top ten hahah,” Gordon tweeted last Thursday. “At this rate madden gon rate me a 79 with no X factor !!! …. we need a season so I can boss up … NO 🧢.”

In last year’s Madden, Gordon was rated 92 overall, making him the fourth-best running back in the game. Gordon apparently took a tumble in this year’s rankings, perhaps a bit deservingly.

Gordon sat out the start of last season and ended up playing in 12 games. After averaging 5.1 yards per carry in 2018, his average dropped to 3.8 last season. That kind of production drop makes his slip in Madden understandable.

The ratings for Broncos rookie wide receivers Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler have already been revealed. Full ratings will arrive later this week.
