Kyler Murray reacts to Marquise Brown signing with the Chiefs, and ‘Hollywood’ responds

Kyler Murray reacted on social media to the departure of friend and former Sooners teammate Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.

It’s the end of an era in Arizona. Marquise “Hollywood” Brown signed a one-year deal with the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, leaving the Cardinals and close friend and former Sooners teammate Kyler Murray.

The two reunited in Arizona after a draft day trade sent Brown to the Cardinals in 2022.

In two seasons with the Cardinals, “Hollywood” caught 118 passes for 1,283 yards and seven touchdowns in 26 games.

Murray reacted on social media, sharing a clip from the 2006 film, “The 300,” sharing his disappointment in his teammate’s and friend’s departure for K.C.

In the clip, Leonidas, King of Sparta, tells Ephialtes, “may you live forever,” after the disfigured descendant of Sparta betrays the Spartan army to Xerxes and the Persian army.

Murray then shared a meme of Wolverine looking longingly at a photo. The photo was of Murray and Brown’s time together with the Oklahoma Sooners playing rock, paper, scissors.

“Hollywood” responded in a post on the social media platform X, saying, “I’ma miss you little man.”

The two have had a close bond since setting the college football world on fire during the 2018 season. During Murray’s Heisman Trophy winning season, Brown caught 75 passes for 1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns. Both players were taken in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft.

It’s not a terrible day for Murray, though. The Arizona Cardinals quarterback and the rest of the NFC West received some good news when multiple All-Pro and NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald announced his retirement from the Los Angeles Rams and the NFL.

As the saying goes, when one door closes, a gaping hole in the middle of the defense opens.

Which Sooners could have been on the cover of EA Sports NCAA football during its absence?

With EA Sports NCAA Football returning, which Oklahoma Sooners could have graced the cover during their hiatus since 2015.

EA Sports did what many thought was impossible by announcing it would bring back its college football video game series. After a hiatus that will have spanned at least 10 years come July, the newest version of the beloved game series will return sometime in the summer of 2024.

The last one to drop before the series ended came out in July 2013. NCAA 14 is one of the most iconic sports video games of all time because of the attachment many have to it. Its resale value has never been higher.

The reason for the original cancellation of the series? Name, image and likeness — a hot-button topic that eventually led to NIL being accepted into collegiate sports.

EA Sports couldn’t figure out how to compensate players because it wasn’t legal in that era of collegiate athletics. That hurdle has been cleared and the game looks headed for a summer release date.

Who gets the distinction of being the game’s cover athlete in its resurrection? It’s always a fun and exciting debate when new sports games come out. Former Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson graced NCAA 14’s cover. Since the last game, college football has had iconic athletes that would’ve been perfect fits to be cover athletes.

Our friends at College Wire went through and named which players they thought would have been great fits as cover athletes for the years we didn’t have a game. We decided to do the same, but only with Oklahoma players for those years. Take a look below.

10 Sooners we would have loved to use but couldn’t during the EA Sports NCAA Football hiatus

With EA Sports planning a release of NCAA Football for 2023, we take a look at the 10 Oklahoma Sooners that would have been most fun to use during its hiatus.

One of the most popular franchises of all-time looks to be making a return to your video game consoles in 2023; EA Sports NCAA Football.

The game that’s been on the proverbial shelf since its last release in 2013 is making a return in the new era of college football that provides opportunities for players to earn through name, image, and likeness.

While they haven’t come out with a new title in nearly a decade, NCAA Football 2014 is still incredibly popular among sports gamers who have been able to continue playing online through Playstation consoles.

Rumor has it that nearly 120 teams are currently on board and EA Sports is working with them to get authentic sounds and crowd noises for its gameplay.

As NIL has come to the forefront of college athletics, gamers will likely get a chance to play with some of their favorite players moving forward as EA will attempt to create an even more realistic gaming experience. In years past, the company went with computer-generated names or simply numbers to identify players, but now that athletes can be compensated for their likeness, you’ll more than likely get to take control of Oklahoma’s offense with Nick Evers or Jackson Arnold at the helm when the game releases next year.

With the game’s absence, we missed out on opportunities to use some of our favorite Sooners. Let’s take a look at 10 players that would have been the most fun to use that didn’t get to grace EA Sports’ NCAA Football.

ChampU BBQ: Who’s coming to Norman for the Oklahoma Sooners mega recruiting event?

The ChampU BBQ is right around the corner and with the Oklahoma Sooners hosting several top prospects, here’s a running list of who will be coming to Norman.

The ChampU BBQ has been extremely kind to the Oklahoma Sooners these last few years and it figures that as long as they keep hosting it, it will always remain that way. Generally, the Sooners’ have an absolutely elite collection of talent in Norman during the summer at a time when school is no longer a factor and prospects are focusing on recruiting.

Last year, the Sooners had flashy luxury cars and every notable Oklahoma player of the past that they could find in attendance. Adrian Peterson was there. Kyler Murray was there. CeeDee Lamb was in attendance. Sam Bradford and Lane Johnson were in the building. Roy Williams was there. Marquise Brown and Billy Sims joined the party. Kenneth Murray and Trent Williams were in attendance.

The event serves as the Sooners’ premier recruiting event of the calendar year and every year it seems to deliver as commitments follow shortly after.

Will this year under a new regime bring the same results? We don’t know but what we do know is who will be in attendance for this mega event.

We’ve taken the liberty of chronicling every confirmed ChampU BBQ visitor below.

Social media reacts to Marquise Brown trade to Arizona Cardinals joining Kyler Murray

Some of the best social media reactions to Marquise Brown’s trade to the Arizona Cardinals to reunite with his former OU QB Kyler Murray.

The NFL draft always provides a surprise or two. Though no Sooners were selected in the first round, OU fans were treated to news that reunited two former Sooners.

During the first round, Baltimore traded wide receiver Marquise Brown and pick No. 100 to the Arizona Cardinals for No. 23 overall. The duo that put up a dominant 2018 season are joining forces again.

Brown joins an Arizona Cardinals team that went 11-6 in 2021, but lost to eventual Super Bowl champions the Los Angeles Rams in the wild card round of the playoffs. While Brown goes from being the top wide receiver on the roster in Baltimore to the No. 2 guy in Arizona, playing alongside DeAndre Hopkins should help provide “Hollywood” with much more favorable coverages.

The Cardinals, who lost wide receiver Christian Kirk to the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency, get a deep threat that can put stress on opposing defenses helping create opportunities for Hopkins and other pass catchers A.J. Green, Rondale Moore, and Zach Ertz underneath.

The NFC west put three teams into the playoffs last season, with the Rams and San Francisco 49ers meeting in the NFC championship game.

During the 2018 season, Kyler Murray and Marquise Brown connected 75 times for more than 1,300 yards and 10 touchdowns. Murray won the Heisman and the Oklahoma Sooners won 12 games and made it to the College Football Playoffs.

Looking back on the 2017 recruiting class and it’s impact on the 2021 Oklahoma Sooner Sooners

A deeper look at the remaining members of Oklahoma’s 2017 recruiting class and their contributions to the 2021 Oklahoma Sooners.

The bye week is the perfect time for reminiscing and reflecting as the current Oklahoma Sooners enjoy their time off relaxing, resting, and recovering from a grueling stretch where they played football for nine straight weeks.

These 2021 Sooners are led in part by many seniors who are looking to cement their legacy in Sooner history. Specifically, we’ll look at the Sooners of the 2017 class. Some have come and gone but upon further review, it’s hard not to marvel at the work of the Sooners coaching staff (past and present) for being instrumental in landing and developing such talent.

As it stands, eight of the 28 members of that class are already in the NFL. CeeDee Lamb, Tre Brown, Kenneth Murray, Creed Humphrey, Adrian Ealy, Marquise Brown, Tre Norwood, and Trey Sermon (yes, he transferred to Ohio State but he spent 3 years in Norman).

Current members of that class like Justin Broiles, Jeremiah Hall, Marquis Hayes, Isaiah Thomas, Tyrese Robinson, and Kennedy Brooks are on the precipice of the NFL themselves.

Let’s take a look at these seniors and their contributions to the program and their role going forward for the remainder of the season.
