Ohio State to lose offensive lineman to the transfer portal

Ohio State losses offensive lineman to the transfer portal. #GoBucks

Although it should be a good thing that student-athletes are able to seek opportunities elsewhere via the transfer portal, it is always slightly sad when they decide to leave Ohio State.

The transfer portal doesn’t officially open until Monday, but a few Buckeyes have already made clear their intentions to leave. If it seems like Victor Cutler just arrived to Columbus, you would be right. He was an addition from the portal last season.

Cutler was expected to start at center for Ohio State after he left Louisiana-Monroe, but it was pretty clear the jump from the Sun Belt Conference to the Big Ten might have been more than he expected. He was relegated to the back of the depth chart and saw action in only four games. Cutler has one season of legibility remaining, and we wish him good luck.

Offensive line transfer from Louisiana-Monroe loses black stripe

Grad transfer, Victor Cutler has been officially welcomed to the brotherhood. #GoBucks

We’ve got another black stripe alert! As Ohio State continues to put the puzzle pieces together of what the 2023 offensive line will look like, another threw his hat in the ring with the loss of his black stripe on Thursday.

Victor Cutler was not highly touted out of high school but put the work in at the next level. Deciding to stay local, the West Monroe, Louisiana native chose to attend Louisiana-Monroe and play for the Warhawks. Only a two-star recruit coming out of high school, he was bumped up to a three-star after excellent play with ULM.

Cutler comes to OSU as a grad transfer after earning his degree in Kinesiology and will be looking to add depth to the Ohio State offensive line.

Cutler brings some much-needed experience to the Buckeye offensive line. He started all 12 games for the Warhawks last season at left tackle. The season before that, the young man started seven games at three different positions (center, right tackle, and left tackle) which gives the Buckeyes options and depth in how he can be used.

Athlon Sports names Ohio State’s most important transfers

Athlon Sports names Ohio State’s most important transfers #GoBucks

It feels like every day we talk about the transfer portal and today will be no different. The Ohio State football team failed to add any new transfer additions today, and with portal movement slowing it appears Athlon Sports felt ready to release its list of most important transfers for Ohio State.

The Buckeyes have added only a few transfers this offseason, which was disappointing to many. Honestly, I am a bit shocked Athlon made this list for Ohio State. Its additions may not have as big an impact as most teams’. However, it is interesting nonetheless, and we wanted to provide the breakdown for your reading pleasure and consumption.

Ohio State finally gets a commitment from a transfer portal offensive lineman

The Buckeyes get an addition to their offensive line #GoBucks

The [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] team’s search for a transfer portal offensive lineman to help fill three vacant spots had come up empty until Wednesday. [autotag]Louisiana-Monroe[/autotag] offensive lineman [autotag]Victor Cutler[/autotag] ended the drought by committing to the Buckeyes.

The 6-foot, 2-inch, 280-pound guard will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. This is a very interesting addition because offensive guard is the only position along the line with returning starters, [autotag]Matthew Jones[/autotag] and[autotag]Donovan Jackson[/autotag].

Could one of them move inside and play center? That is a real possibility, but we will find out much more when spring practice begins and reports of what the offensive line looks like emerge. None of these three have the length teams are looking for at tackle, so it’s unlikely one of them moves to the outside of the line.
