5 things to love about LPGA legend Mickey Wright on Valentine’s Day, the day she was born

The legend of Wright grew because she was both immensely talented and private.

Mickey Wright would’ve been 89 today. The LPGA legend died of a heart attack on Feb. 17, 2020, three days after her 85th birthday. The fact that Wright’s birthday fell on Valentine’s Day seems fitting given that she possessed a golf swing that was so universally loved. Ben Hogan considered it the best in golf.

When Wright died, she left her entire estate to her beloved USGA, and asked that her ashes be placed beneath the bay window of the Mickey Wright Room, which opened in 2012. Wright never visited the room but kept a scrapbook of articles that were written about it.

The legend of Wright grew because she was both immensely talented and private.

Here are five things to love about one of golf’s great treasures:

What a deal: Tony Finau’s wife ‘selling’ his clubs for 99 cents (and this made Tony LOL)

“For like 99 cents, can you believe it?” Finau said.

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Tony Finau’s golf clubs and Foresight launch monitor may be hitting the market for the grand sum of 99 cents.

How can that be?

Well, it turns out Finau forgot to ask his wife, Alayna, to be his Valentine – and she’s none too happy about it, according to her social media post on TikTok on Monday.

“Apparently I need to ask,” Finau said on Tuesday on the range at Riviera Country Club ahead of this week’s Genesis Invitational.

In the post, Alayna showed a picture of the happy couple from their wedding day and wrote, “It’s Feb. 12 and he hasn’t asked me to be his Valentines yet … ” That was juxtaposed next to a picture of his golf bag and “Golf Clubs for sale, 99 cents. Hits far, thick grips, custom leather, head covers, Foresight launch monitor included.”

“For like 99 cents, can you believe it?” Finau said.

Tony and Alayna’s love story was featured in Season One of Netflix’s “Full Swing,” and she remains a tremendous follow on social media.

“I’m not on TikTok but yesterday one of the equipment reps said to me, ‘Your wife is so funny. I can’t believe she’s selling (your clubs) for 99 cents.’ I just went along with it and smiled but in my head I was thinking, ‘I don’t really know what he’s talking about,’” Tony recalled. “Then I went on Instagram and saw a post about it and I had a good laugh. It’s too funny.”

Tony said he would cook up something special to celebrate Valentine’s Day with his wife, who would be coming to town for the tournament this week.

Whatever you do to celebrate the occasion on Wednesday, make sure it doesn’t lead to your golf clubs being sold for less than a dollar.

Pat Connaughton/Blake Wesley NBA Tracker: Feb. 13-26

Both former Notre Dame players could be in better spots.

With the NBA having its All-Star break, there weren’t enough games to judge Notre Dame’s two league representatives last week. It turned out not to matter a whole lot in part because [autotag]Pat Connaughton[/autotag] missed two of his possible four games with a sore left calf. He started for the Milwaukee Bucks on Valentine’s Day and had five points and eight rebounds against the Boston Celtics. When he returned to action Feb. 26 against the Phoenix Suns, he was shut out of the scoring column, missing all four of his 3-point attempts.

Meanwhile, [autotag]Blake Wesley[/autotag] continues to play a supporting role for the reeling San Antonio Spurs, losers of a franchise-record 16 straight. In his most recent four games, he averaged 5.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 30.8% from the field. He scored nine points Feb. 13 against the Cleveland Cavaliers and again Feb. 23 against the Dallas Mavericks.

Simply put, there have been better stretches for former Notre Dame players in the NBA.

Chargers social media posts bizarre AI poem about Justin Herbert

To commemorate Valentine’s Day, Chargers’ social media shared a bizarre poem about Justin Herbert.

Valentine’s Day is one of the most anticipated holidays of each new year for couples everywhere, but in the age of artificial intelligence, the Los Angeles Chargers’ social media team managed to turn the celebration into something a bit more… unsettling.

Popular AI chatbot ChatGPT has been all over social media as users interact with it to elicit responses on any number of topics. When the Chargers’ social media crew asked it to write them a poem about quarterback Justin Herbert, the results didn’t disappoint.

The classic “roses are red, violets are blue” opening left something to be desired, and the weak rhyme of “life” with “life” in the second stanza seemed a bit on the nose, but for a chatbot, the poem wasn’t half bad, even if it might’ve been a little bizarre. Chargers’ social was clearly smitten with the composition and immortalized it in the above Twitter post for posterity.

JuJu Smith-Schuster savagely trolled James Bradberry with Super Bowl-themed Valentine’s card

Roses are red; violets are blue. Do not ever let JuJu Smith-Schuster roast you

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is relishing in his team’s Super Bowl victory.

After finding out he earned a $1 million bonus by hitting incentives in the big win, Smith-Schuster found a topical way to troll Philadelphia Eagles cornerback James Bradberry.

Of course, Smith-Schuster and Bradberry found themselves at the center of Super Bowl 57’s biggest controversy. Bradberry got flagged for holding Smith-Schuster toward the end of the game, giving the Chiefs an opportunity to drain the clock and kick a game-sealing field goal.

Bradberry admitted he tugged on Smith-Schuster’s jersey, although some folks were still annoyed the referees called such a ticky-tacky foul on such a big stage.

Well, Smith-Schuster didn’t let Valentine’s Day go by without sharing an absolutely savage Valentine’s card in Bradberry’s, er, honor.

Alright, that is absolutely brutal. Hilarious, but brutal.

There is clearly no love lost between these two teams, and Smith-Schuster has won this round unless Bradberry is able to get him back next season.

If Bradberry isn’t able, Eagles wideout A.J. Brown might have already done it for him.
