Where is Penn State in latest AP Top 25 poll?

Penn State is DOWN in the new AP Top 25 after snapping a three-game losing streak.

It is not too often a team will move down after winning a game, but that is exactly what happened to Penn State in the updated AP Top 25. The Associated Press released its post-Week 10 ranking Sunday afternoon, and it saw Penn State fall from No. 22 a week ago to No. 23 in the latest reshuffling of the college football ranking.

Despite having identical 6-3 records, Penn State is now ranked lower than two teams it has defeated in head-to-head matchups this season. No. 20 Wisconsin made a big jump up this week after a blowout victory at Rutgers to move three spots ahead of the Nittany Lions. Wisconsin was not ranked a week ago. Perhaps Wisconsin’s ranking is inflated by Purdue’s victories over Iowa and Michigan State (Wisconsin handled Purdue head-to-head fairly easily in between Purdue’s big wins).

[lawrence-related id=9568]

No. 16 Auburn also remained ahead of Penn State after dropping four spots in this week’s ranking. Auburn was dominated by Texas A&M to fall to 6-3 on the season.

Penn State and Wisconsin are two of the Big Ten’s six ranked teams this week. No. 6 Ohio State stayed put, but No. 5 Oregon managed to be moved back ahead of the Buckeyes after moving up two spots this week. Oregon did win a head-to-head matchup in Week 2 in Columbus, but Ohio State has arguably been playing better than the Ducks overall since.

No. 8 Michigan State dropped just three spots after their upset loss to Purdue, which is good enough to keep them ahead of No. 9 Michigan. The Wolverines held their same ranking from a week ago.

No. 19 Iowa is the only other Big Ten team in the AP Top 25 this week. The Hawkeyes stayed at No. 19 form a week ago.

Here is the full Ap Top 25, as of November 7, 2021…

Where is Penn State in USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll after Week 10?

Penn State remains No. 23 in the updated USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll after a win over Maryland.

After breaking its losing ways with a 31-14 victory at Maryland this weekend, Penn State simply managed to hold firm on its ranking in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll. The fresh coaches poll, released early Sunday afternoon, sees Penn State holding steady at No. 23 for a second consecutive week.

At 6-3 on the season, Penn State is one of six Big Ten teams ranked in this week’s coaches poll. No. 5 Ohio State remained where they are with just one minor change in this week’s top five of the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll (No. 2 Alabama moved up one spot, with No. 3 Cincinnati falling from No. 2 after a close call against Tulsa). No. 8 Michigan moved up two spots to move ahead of, ironically, No. 9 Michigan State. The Spartans fell three spots in the coaches poll after their loss at Purdue, just one week after Michigan State clipped Michigan in a head-to-head matchup.

[listicle id=9419]

No. 14 Iowa moved up two spots with some reshuffling of the rankings midway through the college football world this weekend. Iowa took advantage of losses by No. 18 Baylor (down five spots) and No. 20 Auburn (down six).  While Penn State remained No. 23, No. 24 Wisconsin has burst right back into the coaches poll with a blowout win at Rutgers. The Badgers, whom Penn State defeated in Week 1, are right behind the Nittany Lions at No. 24.

Out of the Big Ten, the Pitt Panthers continue to be on the rise as a leading ACC contender. The Panthers moved up three spots this week after a blowout victory against Duke. The Panthers passed Penn State in the process.

Georgia remains the unanimous selection for No. 1 this week after receiving all 64 first-place votes.

Where is Penn State in the AP Top 25 after loss to Illinois?

Penn State got hammered by the AP Top 25 voters after a loss to Illinois in Week 8

Penn State’s catastrophic loss to Illinois in a marathon nine-overtime contest in Week 8 saw the Nittany Lions take a significant stumble in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll. Voters in the Associated Press Top 25 were ready to hammer Penn State as well in this week’s updated AP poll.

Penn State fell to No. 20 in this week’s AP Top 25, falling 13 spots from last week in the process from No. 7. Penn State is now actually ranked lower than the Auburn Tigers, whom Penn State defeated earlier in the season. Auburn moved up from No. 19 to No. 18 this week.

Penn State is still one of five Big Ten teams ranked in the AP Top 25 this week. No. 5 Ohio State and No. 6 Michigan stayed where they were a week ago. No. 8 Michigan State moved up one spot after Penn State and Oklahoma State each lost this weekend. And No. 9 Iowa is back into the top 10 after being on a bye week.

[lawrence-related id=9044]

Georgia remains on top of the AP Top 25 with all 63 first-place votes heading their way. Cincinnati is still ahead of one-loss Alabama for the second spot right behind the Bulldogs. Alabama moved up to No. 3 after swapping rankings with Oklahoma this week.

Penn State tumbles in USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Where is Penn State ranked in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll after an epic overtime loss to Illinois?

After dropping a nine-overtime marathon at home to lowly Illinois, Penn State was due to take a major tumble in the latest polls on Sunday. And that’s exactly what happened for the Nittany Lions following Week 8 of college football action.

Penn State fell 10 spots down to No. 17 in this week’s USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, which was updated Sunday afternoon less than 24 hours after a major disappointment in front of a homecoming crowd. But Penn State’s fall in the polls may have been given a slight pillow considering a number of other losses taken by ranked teams around the country.

Coastal Carolina and NC State each losing gave Penn State a slight cushion underneath them, as did the loss by Clemson. Coastal Carolina and NC State each remained in the top 25, although Clemson fell out after their road loss at Pitt. The Panthers moved up four spots in the coaches poll, but only up to No. 19 to remain two spots behind Penn State despite a better record of 6-1.

Penn State took the biggest tumble in this week’s coaches poll by falling nine spots after a loss to Illinois. No. 15 Oklahoma State also took a good fall by dropping six spots after a loss to Iowa State (up to No. 23 after being unranked). Coastal Carolina fell eight spots and NC State fell seven after losses to Appalachian State and Miami, respectively.

Georgia remains the unanimous No. 1 team in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll after receiving all 64 first-place votes to stay ahead of No. 2 Cincinnati. But No. 3 Alabama has moved ahead of No. 4 Oklahoma, who fell two spots after having to claw back on the road against Kansas. No. 5 Ohio State, No. 6 Michigan, and No. 7 Michigan State remain in their spots from a week ago heading into a massive weekend of Big Ten football. Penn State is now left in the rearview mirror, at least for now, in the Big Ten East race.

No. 10 Iowa moved up one spot in its bye week to give the Big Ten four top 10 teams after Penn State fell out.

Conference realignment: The American adds six from Conference USA

There were some major conference realignment changes made, but the Big Ten still has no reason to make more moves.

The American Athletic Conference is certainly no stranger to conference realignment changes. After all, this is essentially a re-branded Big East football conference that is the product of seismic shifts in prior rounds of massive conference realignment changes around the country. After losing some key members to the Big 12, the AAC has officially added a half dozen teams from Conference USA.

It was truly a milestone day for The American as they formally welcomed their six newest members; UAB, Charlotte, FAU, North Texas, Rice, and UTSA. The expansion move by the AAC brings the conference’s total projected membership up to 15 members in total, and 14 participating members in football and basketball. Navy is a football-only member of the AAC and Wichita State is a basketball-only member.

The American recently learned it was about to lose three key members to the Big 12 with Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF opting to leave the conference and join the Big 12, along with BYU. The Big 12, of course, is going to be losing Oklahoma and Texas to the SEC.

The timing of all of these conference realignment changes remains to be determined, and the timeline of these changes may be influenced by just how quickly Oklahoma and Texas can bolt and get playing in the SEC.

Naturally, these moves is a devastating blow to the status of Conference USA, and the hits may continue to come for Conference USA. In a stunning show of how much the times have changed, the Sun Belt Conference could be poaching a few other Conference USA members in due time. Southern Miss, Marshall, and Old Dominion are on the Sun Belt’s radar, as is FCS powerhouse James Madison.

As for the Big Ten, there are still no rumblings that would suggest the conference is looking to expand its current membership. The idea the Big Ten could add a team or two from the Pac-12 always felt out of place, so unless Notre Dame calls up Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren and says they want in, all should remain calm on the Big Ten expansion front.

Penn State maintains position in AP Top 25 after Week 7

What Big Ten team passed Penn State in the updated AP Top 25 after an off week?

An idle week for Penn State saw no movement for the Nittany Lions in this week’s AP Top 25 poll, which was updated Sunday afternoon. The Nittany Lions remain at No. 7 in this week’s updated AP Top 25, although there was some notable movement around them that may raise some eyebrows.

The Michigan Wolverines moved up two posts in this week’s AP Top 25, leaping from one spot behind Penn State to one spot in front of Penn State in this week’s AP Top 25. The logic for such a move considering both teams were on a bye week likely falls on the result of the Iowa Hawkeyes being dumped at home by Purdue in Week 7. A week after Iowa edged Penn State, the Hawkeyes lost by 17 at home to Purdue, thus taking some of the defense to Penn State losing a hard-fought game in the same stadium.

The loss by Iowa dropped the Hawkeyes out of the top 10 of the AP Top 25 (as well as the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll), leaving the Big Ten with four teams in this week’s top 10 of the AP poll. No. 7 Penn State is accompanied by No. 5 Ohio State, No. 6 Michigan, and No. 9 Michigan State. Iowa fell from No. 2 down to No. 11 this week. Purdue also crept into the top 25 of the AP poll this week, rounding out this week’s poll at No. 25 after their big win at Iowa.

Purdue is one of five new teams in this week’s ranking. Auburn returned to the AP Top 25 at No. 19 this week. No. 20 Baylor, No. 23 Pittsburgh, and No. 24 UTSA also moved into the top 25 this week.

Top-ranked Georgia remained the top team in this week’s ranking with all 63 first-place votes, but Iowa’s loss left an opening for Cincinnati to climb to No. 2 in the AP top 25. The Bearcats stayed ahead of No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 4 Alabama, with all moving up one spot this week.

Penn State passed by division rival in updated USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Where is Penn State in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll after Week 7?

Penn State did not move up or move down in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll this week while on a bye week, but the Nittany Lions did get passed by one of its division rivals while sitting at home. Michigan State moved up two spots following a close victory over Indiana in week 7, as the Spartans moved up to No. 7 in this week’s coaches poll.

Penn State remained No. 8, the same ranking they held the previous week after suffering its first loss of the season at Iowa in Week 6. Iowa, after getting humiliated at home by Purdue, actually fell behind the Nittany Lions after tumbling from No. 2 down to No. 11 this week.

The Big Ten still has four teams ranked in the top 10 of the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll with Penn State coming in behind No. 5 Ohio State, No. 6 Michigan, and No. 7 Michigan State.

Georgia secured all 65 first-place votes in this week’s coaches poll to lock down the No. 1 overall ranking for a second straight week. But Cincinnati’s path to its highest ranking in the coaches ranking was blocked by a resurgent Oklahoma. Oklahoma moved up one spot to No. 2 to replace Iowa behind the Bulldogs, and Cincinnati moved up to No. 3. No. 4 Alabama, Ohio State, and Michigan each moved up one spot and the Spartans moved up two. No. 9 Oklahoma State and No. 10 Oregon round out the top 10 this week.

Former Penn State opponent Auburn popped back up into the top 25 of the coaches poll this week following their win over Arkansas, which dropped the Razorbacks out of the top 25 as their losing skid hits three games after a fun start to the season. Pittsburgh also surged into the rankings this week at No. 23, moving just ahead of No. 24 Clemson to setup a top 25 matchup between the Panthers and Tigers coming up.

Here is the full look at the full coaches poll after this week’s slate of games.

Three takeaways from Oklahoma’s 105-66 win over UTSA

Three takeaways from Oklahoma’s blowout win over UTSA tonight in their season opener.

Oklahoma basketball finally got their season started Thursday night hosting UTSA at the Lloyd Noble Center.

They looked like they were making up for lost time, as the Sooners eviscerated the Roadrunners 105-66.

It was a wire-to-wire win for Oklahoma and they looked simply fantastic in just about every facet of the game.

Granted the competition wasn’t nearly as stiff as it going to get for the team very soon, this was still as encouraging a first outing as you could really ask for in an opener.

There is a lot to digest in a first game of the season, so here are the three biggest takeaways from the Sooners’ dominant season-opening win over UTSA:

[vertical-gallery id=21231]

Oklahoma will have nine scholarship players available for opener against UTSA

Lon Kruger provided on availability update on his team ahead of Oklahoma’s season opener Thursday night against UTSA.

Oklahoma basketball opens their season tonight at home against the UTSA Roadrunners at the Lloyd Noble Center.

This game was originally set for last Wednesday, but was pushed back due to a COVID-19 outbreak on the Sooners team that left them without the necessary number of scholarship players to play in the game.

On Tuesday, Lon Kruger met with the media to discuss the latest with his team ahead of their long-awaited return to the court.

The obvious question to many was just who exactly would be available for Oklahoma tonight given that they were unable to play a scheduled game with UCF just four days ago. Kruger didn’t give many specifics but did say they would have precisely nine scholarship players available for the game.

The only player Kruger mentioned directly as being out is sophomore forward Victor Iwuakor. A young player with potential, he is viewed as someone who could rise into a fairly significant contributor this season.

It is unclear if he will be able to return prior to Sunday’s Big 12 opener against TCU.

As for tonight’s game, the Sooners will tip of their season against UTSA tonight at 7:00 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on FOX Sports Oklahoma.

When, where, how to watch Oklahoma take on UTSA

When, where, how to watch Oklahoma basketball open their season tonight against UTSA.

Oklahoma basketball finally gets their season underway tonight when they host the UTSA Roadrunners (1-1) on the Lloyd Noble Center.

It has been a long wait for the Sooners to finally take the floor again after having their initial opener against UTSA get postponed along with their second and third games of the year against UCF and Florida.

But, Oklahoma has finally made it to having an opportunity to take the floor tonight and begin their new campaign.

UTSA, meanwhile, has had the opportunity to play a couple of games and splitting them.

For tonight’s opener, here is everything you need to know:

WHEN: 7:00 p.m. CT

HOW TO WATCH: FOX Sports Oklahoma
