Bucs don’t have to look far for a sleeper OL in the 2024 NFL draft

The Bucs know how to find gems along the offensive line in the later rounds, and this local prospect fits the bill

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht knows how to find diamonds in the rough along the offensive line every year in the NFL draft, and it, and this time around, he won’t have to look far.

One of the most underrated blockers in the 2024 class is USF’s Donovan Jennings, who played his college ball at Raymond James Stadium for the Bulls.

Jennings brings a fantastic combination of experience and athleticism to the table, two things the Bucs value highly in all of their potential draft picks. He backed up his solid film with a strong week at the East-West Shrine Game, as then put on a show at USF’s pro day workout:

Tampa Bay needs as much help as they can get along the interior of the offense line, and spending a Day 3 pick on Jennings would give them a high-upside player who could quickly develop into a potential starter.

Former Clemson RB is back in the transfer portal

Another former Tiger has put his name back in the transfer portal.

Former Tigers have been all over the transfer portal this year, with another looking for a new team after heading back into the transfer portal.

After spending two seasons at USF, running back Michel Dukes has reentered the transfer portal. Dukes spent three years at Clemson, playing in 19 games and totaling 42 attempts for 150 yards and two touchdowns.
Transferring to USF in 2022, Duke played in 20 games, recording 117 carries for 583 yards and seven touchdowns. He added 16 receptions for 149 yards through the air.

According to 247Sports composite rankings, Dukes was a three-star recruit in the 2019 class, ranking as the No.56 running back and No.924 overall player.

Alabama takes another stumble in latest US LBM Coaches Poll

In the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, Alabama falls even farther.

The Week 3 contest against USF was supposed to be a tune-up game to prepare for Ole Miss next week and to recover from the loss to Texas. It was anything but.

Sure, the Crimson Tide walked away with a road win, but it wasn’t in a dominant fashion. Alabama scored only 17 points while allowing just a field goal by the Bulls.

In a year where not even the back-to-back national championship-winning Georgia Bulldogs look invincible, the Crimson Tide seems to be deviating the most from what fans expected of them.

Alabama is ranked No. 12 in the US LBM Coaches Poll entering Week 4.

The entire US LBM Coaches Poll after Week 3 is listed below.

Game-by-game predictions for Alabama football’s 2023 season

Predicting how every game on Alabama football’s 2023 schedule will go!

Alabama football had a disappointing season by the Crimson Tide’s standards. With an 11-2 record and a win over a conference champion in the Sugar Bowl, the season wasn’t a success in the eyes of many because the team failed to reach the College Football Playoff.

Winning championships is expected at Alabama. Though the Tide didn’t get an opportunity to compete for one last season, 2023 is right around the corner.

The schedule may not be the easiest, but that might be to the benefit of Alabama. There’s a chance the Tide begin the 2023 season outside of the top-four teams in the country, which means Alabama must convincingly win games over quality opponents to move up in the rankings and earn a bid to the College Football Playoff.

In order to make it to the postseason, Alabama must first get through the regular season. Here are predictions for all 12 games the Crimson Tide will play in 2023.

USF Bulls Preview 2022

You’ll have to forgive USF if they’re feeling left out of the party.

The Big 12 is dropping the ball on this. It added Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF from the American Athletic Conference for next year – along with BYU – and it’s crazy not to bring aboard a big school in the Tampa market to expand the Florida footprint even more.

It’s easy to forget that expansion is about business and not necessarily about the short-sighted win-loss record, but of course USF would’ve been a bigger consideration for a move if it was rocking and rolling.

It’s not all that long ago when the program was strong, going bowling in 2018 and winning 21 games between 2016 and 2017. There’s no reason why it can’t get back to that level in a hurry.

Head coach Jeff Scott hasn’t been able to right the ship, but he’s been rebuilding. The coaching staff went through some changes, almost everyone is back, and despite a whole slew of transfer portal losses, the depth isn’t all that bad.

Now the wins have to come. The program is too good – and has too much to offer – to be this mediocre.

[listicle id=548130]

USF Bulls Preview 2022: Offense

The whole idea behind getting Jeff Scott as the head coach was to crank up the offense, but it hasn’t worked so far. The Bulls averaged just 351 yards and 23 points per game with everything being a tad strange.

The running game was a monster at times, the passing game was able to push it down the field a bit, and the pass protection wasn’t that bad, but there were too many times when things fizzled. On the plus side, there’s experience with ten starters back for new offensive coordinator Travis Trickett to work with.

The passing game has to get moving. Timmy McClain showed promise as a freshman, but he only threw five touchdown passes – the team threw six – with seven picks. He ran for four scores, but he wasn’t able to make the attack blow up.

On the way is Gerry Bohanon from Baylor – a big, veteran baller who ran for nine touchdowns and threw for 18 along with 2,200 for the Big 12 champ.

The wide receivers have to make more big plays. Xavier Weaver led the team with 41 catches and averaged a whopping 17.4 yards per catch, and he’s not alone with the top three targets back and helped by the addition of Ajou Ajou coming in from Clemson.

The offensive line wasn’t that bad. Of course it could be tighter in pass protection and at keeping defense out of the backfield, but this is a good-sized group that’s now loaded with depth – especially for the interior – thanks to the transfer portal. Left tackle Donovan Jenkins is a 6-5, 327-pound pro prospect, and 6-3, 309-pound senior Demetris Harris is coming off an All-AAC season.

The backs are in place with everyone of note back. Jaren Mangham was the team’s bright spot with 671 yards and 15 scores, Kelley Joiner was second on the team with 480 yards and showed some flash, and Brian Battle was an all-star kick returner averaging 32.5 yards per pop with three touchdowns.

USF Bulls Preview 2022: Defense

The offense has most of the returning talent, but the defense has veterans, too, with nine starters expected back for new defensive coordinator and longtime coach Bob Shoop.

The D has a ton of work to do after finishing 123rd in the nation allowing 476 yards and 35 points per game. The biggest problem was against the run, so …

The line gets some reworking. Nose tackle is the big hole – the size needs to be there – and that’s where the team literally went heavy in the transfer portal with five new guys coming in to work on the inside. Minnesota’s Rashad Chaney should be the best of the bunch.

Jason Vaughn will get the first look on one end after making 19 tackles, and it’ll be all about the rotation to find more than nine sacks from this D. Again, here’s where the transfer portal plays a role – Missouri’s Jatorian Hansford fits the potential as an edge rusher.

The 1-2 linebacking punch of Antonio Grier and Dwayne Boyles is as strong as any in the AAC. These two have been around for forever, Grier is coming of a team-high 92 tackles, and Boyles is a speedy veteran who can get all over the field and behind the line. The key will be to find a thumper in the middle to let the stars on the outside shine.

The secondary has to bust up more passes. The defense generated ten picks, but Daquan Evans is too good a corner to not do more. Overall this is one of the team’s most experienced areas with plenty of corners to play with. Safeties Vincent Davis and Mekhi LaPointe good tacklers who should combine for well over 150 stops.

USF vs UCF Game Preview

Why USF Will Win

Can the Bulls do it for a second year in a row?

They were lousy all of 2020, they didn’t win a game over an FBS team, and … they didn’t beat UCF either in the season finale. However, they rolled up 646 yards in a wildly entertaining 58-46 loss.

They’re not a whole lot better this time around, but they at least have two wins – one over an FBS team, Temple – and they’ve shown a few sparks.

The offensive line hasn’t been all that awful, the ground game has been decent at times, and the beleaguered secondary should catch a little bit of a break against a UCF passing game that doesn’t do much of  anything down the field.

However …

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 13

Why UCF Will Win

Is Dillion Gabriel returning? The star quarterback went down with a broken collarbone early in the season, and there were just enough rumblings that he might return to make it a topic of conversation.

He probably won’t be able to go, but the Knights shouldn’t need him. They should be able to blast away at will on the porous USF run defense, balancing things out with the midrange passing attack shouldn’t be an issue, and the D has the ability to get behind the line and bother everything the USF O wants to do.

Yeah, UCF’s offensive front is a tad leaky, but there’s no pass rush whatsoever coming from the Bulls.

And then there are the …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 12

What’s Going To Happen

Turnovers. USF gives up lots and lots and lots of turnovers with 12 in the last four games.

UCF isn’t bad at forcing mistakes. It’ll come up with a few and get points off them, but it’ll be the running game – with a good rotation around smallish speedster Johnny Richardson – that will take over in the second half to pull away.

USF vs Tulane Game Preview

Why USF Will Win

The team is playing better.

It might be 1-4 over the last five games, but the four losses – including against Cincinnati and Houston – were were good battles. The passing game picked up over the last few weeks, the running game has had its moments, and the there are signs of life in a building year for 2022.

Tulane’s offensive line isn’t doing much of anything in pass protection, and on the flip side, USF’s line is doing a decent job of keeping everyone in the backfield clean. The Bull front five doesn’t allow a ton of sacks or tackles for loss, and again, it’s decent enough to generate a push for the ground game.

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 12

Why Tulane Will Win

It’s a brutally painful year for the Green Wave – they have yet to beat an FBS team – but the defense stepped up in losses to UCF and Tulsa, and the team is still putting up a good battle.

The offensive line is having problems, but USF doesn’t generate any semblance of a steady pass rush. As long as Michael Pratt can get a little time to work, there’s a wee bit of passing game that was there before dealing with Cincinnati, UCF, and Tulsa over the last three weeks.

USF might be playing better overall, but it’s not moving the chains consistently enough and the secondary can get torched – it gave up close to 700 yards through the air over the last two weeks.

NFL Expert Picks: CFN Week 11

What’s Going To Happen

Tulane’s offense isn’t working – 13 points or fewer in the last three games – and USF’s defense is having problems with 99 points allowed in the last two.

The offense should be able to perk up for the Green Wave, but USF is playing better overall.

The Bulls are going to look a whole lot stronger now that they’re not playing Houston and Cincinnati.
