Texas drops again in USA TODAY Sports college football re-rank

Texas dropped 10 spots last week, the trend continued downward on Monday.

Texas dropped 10 spots last week in USA TODAY Sports’ re-rank of every college football team, and the trend continued downward on Monday.

It wasn’t as steep of a tumble this week, but the Longhorns still fell one spot to No. 37. Big 12 foes Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor and Iowa State are each listed higher.

While the Longhorns have no chance of participating in the College Football Playoff at this point, a door did open for them to sneak into the Big 12 championship game this week when Iowa State defeated Oklahoma State.

If Texas can win the remaining games on their schedule, and Oklahoma State loses at least two more games, Steve Sarkisian’s team could find themselves in a rematch with Oklahoma in December.

Auburn is on the come up.

The Tigers are 5-2 and have some serious momentum heading into the Ole Miss matchup in nine days. The bye week helped tremendously as Auburn is trying to get a couple of pieces back from injury, namely being linebacker Owen Pappoe and left tackle Austin Troxell.

USA TODAY Sports released their re-rank of all 130 FBS teams, and Auburn moved up eight spots from last week to No. 23 after beating Arkansas on the road 38-23.

The Tigers now look ahead to Ole Miss, who is currently ranked No. 12 in both the USA TODAY Sports re-rank and the AP Top 25.

LSU had a major bounce-back last weekend.

The Tigers are coming off of a huge upset over then-No. 20 Florida and suddenly have life, even after hearing that Ed Orgeron will be leaving the program following the conclusion for the 2021 season.

LSU may need to enjoy their win while it lasts because they will be taking a trip up to Oxford to take on the No. 12 Ole Miss Rebels this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CDT.

On the other hand, Ole Miss may be dealing with an injury to their quarterback, and it could significantly benefit LSU’s chances to win this weekend- just something to watch out for if you’re an LSU fan.

USA TODAY Sports released their weekly Re-Rank of all 130 FBS college football teams, and LSU took a ten spot climb up to No. 41 after dropping to 51 last week.

LSU continues to fall in the USA TODAY Sports FBS re-rank

Not looking good for the purple and gold.

After another week of college football action, it is time for the weekly power rankings update. Where do the LSU Tigers line up this week?

According to the Paul Myerberg re-ranking of all 130 FBS teams, the Tigers continue to slide down the rankings. In the updated rankings we find LSU one spot behind their in-state competition, Louisiana-Lafayette. The Bayou Bengals make the list at No. 52, falling 11 spots from last week’s No. 41 spot.

Meanwhile, the Kentucky Wildcats moved up to No. 7, just one spot higher than last week. We have a new No. 1 in the Georgia Bulldogs after Alabama fell three spots to No. 4.

We check in with the entire SEC broken down by division:

West Ranking Movement East Ranking Movement
Alabama No. 4 -3 Georgia No. 1 +1
Ole Miss No. 12 +7 Kentucky No. 4 +1
Arkansas No. 22 -5 Florida No. 21
Texas A&M No. 24 +19 Tennessee No. 49 +10
Auburn No. 31 -9 Missouri No. 66 +5
Mississippi State No. 34 South Carolina No. 93 -5
LSU No. 52 -11 Vanderbilt No. 115 +2

LSU is the lowest-seeded team on the re-rank in the SEC West, while their East foe this Saturday, Florida checks in at No. 21. Texas A&M climbed 19 spots this week after their three-point victory over the then-No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. Tennessee saw the second-biggest climb moving up 10 spots.

The Tigers were the biggest losers falling a total of 11 spots as we indicated earlier. The only other Power Five schools with bigger drops were North Carolina and Orgeron State that fell 12 spots this week.

A lot of work to do for the Tigers but this gives you an idea of where they rank among the upper echelon of college football.

Things aren’t trending in a good direction for the LSU Tigers.

Following the loss to Auburn, fans are up in arms over the future of the program under Ed Orgeron. Questions about his longevity with the program are starting to surface due to the two subpar years he and the team have had following the National Championship back in 2019. The national media seems to be reflecting a similar message about Coach O and LSU.

USA TODAY Sports put out their weekly NCAA Re-Rankings for every FBS team in the country, from No. 1 to No. 130.

Heading into the Tiger Bowl, LSU was sitting at No. 29 in the rankings after defeating Mississippi State on the road. Losing to Auburn dropped the Tigers to No. 41 in the USA Today week five Re-Rank. Following the win, Auburn rose 19 spots to No. 22.

Here are the entire rankings.

Where LSU lands in the latest USA TODAY Sports re-rank of 130 FBS teams

How far did the LSU Tigers fall in this week’s re-rank of all 130 FBS teams?

Who doesn’t love more power rankings? This time we look at the entire FBS. Just how far did the Tigers fall in the latest update from USA TODAY Sports re-rankings of every team in FBS?

Paul Myerberg is back with his weekly re-rank of all 130 FBS teams. Going into the game against Chip Kelly and the UCLA Bruins, the LSU Tigers were ranked No. 18 overall. The loss dumped the team all the way down to No. 30, they fell 12 spots. UCLA was no. 36 but now find themselves in the top 15 as the No. 15 team on the list.

SEC Teams:

  • Alabama (No. 1)
  • Georgia (No. 2)
  • Texas A&M (No. 8)
  • Florida (No. 17)
  • Mississippi (No. 25)
  • LSU (No. 30)
  • Kentucky (No. 43)
  • Missouri (No. 49)
  • Auburn (No. 50)
  • Mississippi State (No. 57)
  • Tennessee (No. 74)
  • Arkansas (No. 79)
  • South Carolina (No. 99)
  • Vanderbilt (No. 124)

Well good news for Vanderbilt, despite the loss to East Tennessee State of FCS, they aren’t the worst team in the country. That goes to Connecticut, just ahead of UL-Monroe.

The Tigers find themselves as the No. 6 team in the SEC, which would put them at No. 4 in the SEC West behind Alabama, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss. LSU will face two of those teams on the road this year with the Aggies coming to Death Valley to close out the regular season.

The week three opponent Central Michigan comes in at No. 84. They rose up the rankings from No. 88 despite the loss to Missouri to open the season. Former Florida head coach Jim McElwain makes his return to Baton Rouge with his new team on Sept. 18.

McElwain is 1-1 in Baton Rouge, the last time he faced LSU the Tigers won 17-16 in Gainesville.
