After a big win, where does Oklahoma land in the newest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches poll?

Where do the Oklahoma Sooners land in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll after their big win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders?

A dominant showing by the Oklahoma Sooners in their 52-21 win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders put the voters at ease in this week’s USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Oklahoma, who fell two spots in last week’s poll after falling behind the Kansas Jayhawks 10-0 at halftime, stayed at No. 4 in this week’s poll. There was little room to climb despite their 31-point win over the Red Raiders. The No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide were off this week, but the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs continued their dominant defensive performance in a 34-7 demolition of the Florida Gators. After having just a 14-12 lead over Tulane, the Cincinnati Bearcats turned it on in the second half and came away with a solid 31-12 win to stay undefeated and the No. 2 team in the nation.

The conference to watch as the season goes along is the Big 10. No. 6 Michigan State picked up a massive win over rival No. 10 Michigan, and the No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes continued their strong run of play with a 33-24 win over No. 23 Penn State. Michigan State still has games against Penn State and Ohio State while the Buckeyes will face Michigan. And that’s all just in the Big 10 East’s final month of the regular season. How all that plays out will certainly have an impact on the College Football Playoff landscape.

In the Big 12, Iowa State dropped out of the polls after their upset loss to West Virginia. Oklahoma State moved up four spots to No. 11 after doing what Oklahoma should have done to Kansas in their 55-3 win. Baylor had arguably the best win in their comeback performance over Texas and moved up to No. 13.

The No. 4 Oklahoma Sooners have a bye this week before heading to Waco to take on the No. 13 Baylor Bears. Oklahoma needs Baylor and Oklahoma State to stay in the top 15 to bolster their chances of making the College Football Playoff. While they should get in if they continue to win and remain undefeated, the murkiness of the Big 10 and a potential SEC Championship matchup of Alabama and Georgia could undoubtedly impact Oklahoma’s standing in the CFB Rankings down the road.

A look at the full coaches poll after this week’s slate of games.

Gators receive zero votes in USA Today Sports AFCA Coaches Poll after loss to Georgia

Two and a half disastrous minutes of football on Saturday lost Florida the game and all support it had left in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Florida was two score underdog going into the game against No. 1 Georgia on Saturday, but things stayed close until the final 2:30 of the first half. Anthony Richardson turned the ball over three times in his first start for the Gators, and the Bulldogs capitalized on each turnover with a touchdown.

What could have been a close game at halftime turned into a massacre, and Florida lost any support it had left in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll as a result. Florida earned points from voters in each of the last two weeks since dropping out of the top 25, but the loss to Georgia was convincing enough to leave the Gators off ballots this week.

Aside from Florida’s record, the quarterback situation is getting worse by the week as it became clear that Anthony Richardson still had much to learn before being a trusted starter for the Gators. Had those final minutes in the second quarter gone any other way, confidence in Richardson and Florida is likely a little higher.

The good news is that the Gators have a rather light back end of the schedule. Assuming that the offense turns the ball over less against worse defenses, Florida could work its way back into the voters’ hearts if they can win out. However, reentry to the top 25 seems like a longshot at this point.

Alabama stayed at No. 3 after having the week off, and Texas A&M jumped up two spots to No. 12 without playing a game. Auburn’s upset over Ole Miss landed the two right next to each other at Nos. 14 and 15, with the Tigers naturally in front. Kentucky’s upset loss to Mississippi State has them down five spots to No. 17, and Arkansas finished outside of the top 25 with 65 points.

Watch: Full highlight package from Notre Dame’s win over North Carolina

Relive all the action here

Last night was fun wasn’t it? The back and forth battle between the Irish and North Carolina Tar Heels with Norte Dame outlasting the visitors, 44-34. The highest scoring output of the season was needed as the defense struggled against the Sam Howell led attack of UNC.

[listicle id=36648]

The Irish still did what they needed to do to win and along with that came a jump in the Coaches Poll. All in all, it was a very successful night, with Kyren Williams going for over 200-yards on the ground and the quarterback duo of Jack Coan and Tyler Buchner each doing their part.

Take a look below at the full highlight package from last night’s Irish victory over North Carolina.

Alabama remains at No. 3 in USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Different week, the same ranking for Alabama.

Alabama had the week off, letting the rest of the college football world battle it out this weekend.

The Crimson Tide remained ranked No. 3 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. The top five were unchanged, with the other four teams winning on Saturday.

Within the SEC, Auburn (No. 14) made the biggest jump, moving up six spots after defeating Ole Miss (No. 15) at home. Georgia remained the top-ranked team in the country, with Texas A&M (No. 12) and Kentucky (No. 17) also in the poll.

Of Alabama’s final four matchups, Auburn is the only one ranked.

The Big Ten has been a mainstay inside the top 10, with No. 5 Ohio State and No. 6 Michigan State winning the biggest matchups of the weekend. Nov. 20 is when those two teams will meet up, most likely in a College Football Playoff play-in type matchup.

No sign of Texas in USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

The Longhorns probably won’t be in one of these until next season…

After squandering yet another double-digit lead to Baylor in Week 9, Texas has lost three straight games and find themselves sitting at 4-4.

It is no surprise that the Longhorns are not ranked in any polls this week, as it is likely they will not see a ranking next to their name until the end of the season. That’s only if they win out, and win a bowl game. However, it is also just as likely they will not see a ranking next to their name until next season, due to how bad this team has been in these past few weeks.

It seems this team has a mental fragility problem, and cannot handle any sort of adversity. They are also lacking the playmakers needed on both sides of the ball, as constant bad reads by Casey Thompson, drops by the receivers, and the defense not generating an ounce of pressure has been a reoccurring theme.

Although Texas isn’t ranked, there are a ton of movers and shakers within the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll. Here is how the coaches view the top-25 teams:

Wisconsin left out of the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Wisconsin remains on the outside looking in of the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll:

Notre Dame creeps up in latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

The Irish head north in the Coaches Poll’s newest rankings

The Irish outlasted the Tar Heels of North Carolina and were rewarded by moving up in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll. Previously just outside the Top-10 at No. 11, Notre Dame moved up three spots to No. 8 after some shake-up inside the poll.

[listicle id=36648]

Michigan State’s comeback over rival Michigan didn’t do them much good in the eyes of the coaches, moving up just one spot to No. 6, still behind one loss Ohio State. The Buckeyes defeated Penn State and remained No. 5 while the Wolverines managed to drop just four spots to No. 10.

[listicle id=36647]

Ole Mis and Iowa tumbled out of the Top-10 with their second loss, while other teams like Baylor, Auburn, and Wake Forest took advantage of teams losing ahead of them and moved up.

Texas remains unranked in USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll after Week 8

Longhorns are unranked…again.

The voters may still have some belief in Texas, but need to see more after the Longhorns suffered two consecutive conference losses prior to their bye week.

In each of the losses, Texas blew double-digit leads and were exposed by the opposing teams running back. They needed every second of their bye week in Week 8 to prepare for Baylor, who like the Oklahoma schools that punished them on the ground, will look to assert their run game.

If the Longhorns are able to slow down the rushing attack and play a complete game, they will likely find themselves re-entering this poll a week from today, but until then they remain unranked in the most recent USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Here is what how the poll looks after the Week 8 outcomes:

1 Georgia 7-0 1600 64 1 1/5
